Adam Schefter offers troubling update on Terry McLaurin and Commanders
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter was a guest on the Pat McAfee Show on Monday and shared some information about Terry McLaurin and the Washington Commanders, as well as the reasons why the two sides remain far apart in contract talks. Schefter said McLaurin wants more money than fellow class of 2019 draftee, DK Metcalf, who signed a new deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason at an average annual value of $33 million. While the two are from the same draft class, Metcalf is over two years younger. "It's been vast," Schefter said when asked what the separation was between the two sides. "It's up to the two sides to figure out a way to bridge their differences. But I would say that DK Metcalf was the same draft class as Terry McLaurin, he got about $33 million per year, and I wouldn't think that Terry is going to take less than that, and I think he wants considerably more than that. Now, what it comes in at, we'll wind up seeing. Washington, they're not there right now. They love and value Terry McLaurin but they love and value him at a different price. So, these two sides right now seem apart on a deal. They don't seem close today. I don't know how they're going to get that resolved and figured out, but these things usually find a way of working themselves out over time, but as of today, I don't get the sense that anything's close." Some assumed that when McLaurin showed up at camp, the two sides were progressing toward a deal. There is no NFL reporter more plugged-in than Schefter, and he says they remain far apart. If McLaurin is asking for more than Metcalf, "considerably more," perhaps, this may go into the season. While we don't know what Washington is offering, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN said last week it was around $27 million. That's a lot of ground to make up. Numbers-wise, McLaurin has a strong case to be paid more. However, most NFL GMs look at the ages of the player over the life of a long-term contract. That's hurting McLaurin here. He's not in the same class as Justin Jefferson, who is averaging $35 million per year. McLaurin's agent has been on the sideline with him over the last two days at Commanders' training camp. Aaron Rodgers' Steelers Teammate Reveals Quarterback's Bizarre Toilet Rule At Training Camp
Aaron Rodgers seems to be bonding well with his new Pittsburgh Steelers teammates after they began training camp for the 2025 campaign. One of his teammates, DK Metcalf, recently shared that the veteran quarterback has a strange rule regarding the use of the college-like dormitory toilets they both share. Meanwhile, Aaron Rodgers has hinted that his run with the Pittsburgh Steelers might be his last before he finally retires from football. Aaron Rodgers Has A No-Flush Rule At Training Camp Pittsburgh Steelers' new quarterback Aaron Rodgers and star wide receiver DK Metcalf are already getting their off-field partnership off to the right start. The pair, alongside their other teammates, will be living in a college-style dormitory at Latrobe's Saint Vincent College over the next month, and players are required to share bathrooms with one another. Rodgers and Metcalf are partners sharing one toilet, and the 27-year-old revealed that Rodgers has already laid down some principles of engagement when it comes to their toilet needs. "The toilet is super loud. So he was like, 'Yeah, at night, if we got to p-ss, just don't flush the toilet.' I was like, 'All right, bet,'" Metcalf said about his veteran teammate, per the Daily Mail. Metcalf then shared how he found himself in need of a restroom visit around 9:30 PM on a recent evening. He recalled that before he committed to the noisy act of flushing the toilet, he sent a precautionary text to the four-time MVP: "You asleep yet?" Rodgers, it turned out, was still awake. With the green light from his QB, Metcalf had to give a heads-up: "I'm about to flush the toilet," he replied. The Quarterback's Opening Practice Got Off To A Rough Start Meanwhile, Rodgers' performance on the pitch would definitely need to get better if he's going to bring his career to a close with a bang. During his opening practice with Mike Tomlin's men, the 41-year-old's first pass to Metcalf resulted in an interception. "It's good to get that out the way," he jokingly said about the interception. Rodgers signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers on the back of his New York Jets release. The deal is reportedly worth a whopping $13.65 million, although it remains unclear if a renewal is in the books. Aaron Rodgers Is 'Pretty Sure' He'll Retire After This Season Rodgers is seemingly preparing to call it quits on his illustrious career at the end of this season. Back in June, he appeared on "The Pat McAfee Show," where he admitted that this may be his last stint, as he looks to draw a curtain on his decade-long career with a final year in Pittsburgh. "Yeah, I'm pretty sure this is it," Rodgers told McAfee, per ESPN. He continued, "That's why we just did a one-year deal. Steelers didn't need to put any extra years on that or anything, so this was really about finishing with a lot of love and fun and peace for the career that I've had." The Quarterback Is Excited To End His Football Career With The Steelers During his chat with McAfee, Rodgers further noted how much fun he has had in his decades-long football career, while praising the Pittsburgh Steelers as the perfect team to help bring things to a close. "I played 20 fricking years. It's been a long run," Rodgers said. "I've enjoyed it, and no better place to finish than in one of the cornerstone franchises of the NFL with Mike Tomlin and a great group of leadership and great guys in the city that expects you to win," he added. Over the course of his 21 seasons as an NFL star, Rodgers played for the Green Bay Packers for 18 seasons, from 2005 to 2022. He was then traded to the New York Jets in 2023, where he played for two seasons (2023-2024). Steelers GM Expresses Interest In Keeping Rodgers For More Than One Season It remains to be seen if this will be Rodgers' last season, as the Steelers' General Manager, Omar Khan, said Friday on "The Rich Eisen Show" that he'd be open to Rodgers staying in Pittsburgh for more than just one season. "Do you envision any scenario in which this could be a longer stay in Pittsburgh, if [Rodgers is] so inclined?" Eisen asked, according to Yahoo! Sports. Khan replied: "Obviously, we have to see how the season goes, but absolutely. He's a young 41, and we're obviously taking it year-by-year, and that's where we're at. He added, "But we're obviously not closing the door on anything."

Highlights from Day 3 of Steelers training camp
Saturday was the third day of Pittsburgh Steelers training camp and a day for several veterans to take the day off. The heat and humidity continue to pound down on everyone in attendance, with some noting this is the worst heat at Saint Vincent College in decades. This aligns with head coach Mike Tomlin's decision to move Steelers practices to the afternoons this year, aiming to help players adapt to the heat. With several veterans sitting out it was a great chance for players to move up the depth chart for the day and get some reps. The highlights of the day went to the usual suspects with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, wide receiver DK Metcalf and cornerback Jalen Ramsey all making highlight reel plays. Another player who stepped up on Saturday was running back Jaylen Ramsey. Ramsey and rookie Kaleb Johnson are both leaning in hard on winning that starting running back job. The Steelers kick off the preseason in just one week when the team travels to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars. Aaron Rodgers-led Steelers offense bounces back in seven shots at training camp
Aaron Rodgers' winning mentality was on display once again at Steelers training camp. At Friday's practice in Latrobe, the Steelers participated in the iconic seven-shots drill — an intense red-zone simulation where the offense lined up at the two-yard line and the defense attempted to stop them from getting in. And Rodgers' performance more than made up for yesterday's interception on the first throw of team drills. The first play attempt of seven shots was retried after a bad snap from C Zach Frazier, but Rodgers linked up with DK Metcalf for a touchdown, putting the offense up 1-0. On the next attempt, Rodgers tried to connect with Metcalf once more, but Joey Porter Jr. broke up the pass. Both sides were tied, 1-1. With a new quarterback taking center stage in seven shots, Mason Rudolph attempted a pass to WR Ke'Shawn Williams — but it was almost intercepted by Porter. Defense went up 2-1. Rudolph connected with WR Scotty Miller on the next play, tying it up 2-2. Rookie QB Will Howard then took over on offense, attempting a pass to WR Brandon Johnson — but the pass was broken up by Cory Trice Jr. Defense retook the lead, 3-2. Howard wouldn't take the defended pass lying down — hooking up with TE J.J. Galbreath on the next attempt to tie the score back up, 3-3. Out trotted the four-time MVP for one last shot to decide a winner, and Rodgers didn't flinch — connecting with TE Pat Freiermuth to give the offense the win, 4-3. It's safe to say Rodgers' second day of practice in Latrobe went exactly as planned for the 20-year veteran — who's eager to keep proving why the Steelers offense is far more dangerous than it's being given credit for. DK Metcalf shares bizarre rule Aaron Rodgers imposed for Steelers training camp: 'Toilet is super loud'
Aaron Rodgers is apparently a big fan of uninterrupted sleep, and that has prompted an odd rule for his roommate, DK Metcalf. The two are sharing a dorm separated by a shared bathroom at Saint Vincent College for Pittsburgh Steelers training camp, which began earlier this week. And while the pairing is a way for the two to build a connection off the field, it comes with stipulations. "The toilet is super loud," Metcalf told Yahoo Sports Thursday. "So [Rodgers] was like, 'Yeah, at night, if we got to p---, just don't flush the toilet.' I was like, 'All right, bet.'" Metcalf told the outlet that, on Wednesday night, he sent Rodgers a text saying, "You asleep yet?" after feeling the urge. Rodgers responded that he was still awake. So, Metcalf flushed away. "All right, bet," he recalled of his text, "I'm about to flush the toilet." Despite the bathroom rules, Rodgers appears to be enjoying dorm life. "I'm on the first floor here, which is a good start," he said, speaking to reporters after practice Thursday. "I got DK as my suitemate, so we're sharing a toilet and a shower. But I love this idea, this opportunity to be out here and to stay here and connect with the guys." The four-time league MVP said he was relieved to get paired with Metcalf, adding he "was secretly kind of hoping it wasn't a big lineman or something, maybe somebody that cared about their hygiene a little bit." Rodgers opened training camp this week with an interception on his first pass, but the veteran NFL player remained optimistic about the team's chances this season. "There's going to be picks, for sure. I'm going to try to fit certain things in. You gotta deal with some sweat on the ball from time to time. So, it's going to be a good challenge for me throwing in this heat every single day. I look forward to it, but I'm gonna throw some picks. But I'm gonna throw some touchdowns, too." Rodgers added that there are around 10 to 12 teams that have a "legitimate" chance at winning the Super Bowl, and he believes — at least "on paper" — that the Steelers are one of them.
