US drayage market seems to be rebalancing for rest of 2025: Report

The US drayage market appears to be undergoing a rebalancing event for the rest of this year, and that is bound to present new opportunities and challenges for shippers moving into the latter half of 2025, according to the July ITS Supply Chain Report released by North American third party logistics (3PL) provider ITS Logistics. Drayage refers to the transportation of goods over short distances, typically by truck, often as part of a longer shipping process. The US drayage market seems to be rebalancing for the rest of 2025, and that can create a positive shift in the shipping industry, ITS Logistics said. The US drayage market saw a 1.8-per cent MoM rise in June imports, a notable contrast to typical mid-summer trends. A mixed performance highlights ongoing shifts in port routing and regional demand as tariff volatility continues to shape the market. The US drayage market saw a 1.8-per cent month-on-month (MoM) rise in June imports, a notable contrast to typical mid-summer trends. The top gateways for Chinese imports, particularly the Port of Los Angeles, also saw major volume increases, while East Coast and secondary ports experienced significant declines in activity. The mixed performance highlights ongoing shifts in port routing and regional demand as tariff volatility continues to shape the national drayage market, a release from the company said. 'Ultimately, the full economic effects of recent tariffs are beginning to manifest, with potential disruptions in trade flows and increased costs for businesses and consumers,' said Josh Allen, chief commercial officer at ITS Logistics, said in a company release. 'This comes just as the industry prepares to combat hurricane season and the trucking market continues to see marginal shifts in both spot and contract rates during peak season,' he added. Although much of the industry is experiencing supply chain disruptions of significant magnitude, whether due to administrative decisions from the White House with tariffs or the intensifying hurricane season, the warehousing market shows a glimpse of hope for change. The producer price index for warehousing and storage declined 1.4 per cent from May's 155.4 to 153.1 in June 2025, marking a continued downtrend from March and signaling reduced pricing leverage for warehousing providers. US, Indonesia agree to framework for negotiating reciprocal trade deal

The United States and Indonesia yesterday agreed to a framework for negotiating an agreement on reciprocal trade under which the latter will eliminate nearly 99 per cent of tariff barriers for a full range of US industrial, food and agricultural products. The agreement will be finalised in the coming weeks. The US and Indonesia have agreed to a framework for negotiating a reciprocal trade deal under which the latter will eliminate 99 per cent of tariff barriers for many US industrial, food and agricultural items. The deal will be finalised in the coming weeks. The US will reduce its reciprocal tariffs to 19 per cent and facilitative rules of origin will ensure the gains accrue mainly to these two nations. The United States will reduce to 19 per cent its reciprocal tariffs on goods from Indonesia, and may also identify certain commodities that are not naturally available or domestically produced in the United States for a further reduction in the reciprocal tariff rate. The Agreement on Reciprocal Trade will provide exporters on both sides unprecedented access to each other's markets, a joint statement released by the White House said. The agreement will build upon their long-standing economic relationship, including the US-Indonesia Trade and Investment Framework Agreement, signed on July 16, 1996. Both sides will negotiate facilitative rules of origin that ensure that the benefits of the agreement accrue primarily to these two countries, the statement said. They will work together to address Indonesia's non-tariff barriers that affect bilateral trade and investment in priority areas, including exempting US companies and originating goods from local content requirements; removing certain labeling requirements; and taking steps to resolve many long-standing intellectual property issues. Indonesia will work to address barriers for US exports, including through the removal of import restrictions or licensing requirements on US remanufactured goods or their parts; the elimination of pre-shipment inspection or verification requirements on imports of US goods; and the adoption and implementation of good regulatory practices. Indonesia has also committed to address barriers impacting digital trade, services and investment. Indonesia will provide certainty regarding the ability to transfer personal data out of its territory to the United States. Indonesia will adopt and implement a prohibition on the import of goods produced by forced or compulsory labour; amend its labour laws to ensure that workers' rights to freedom of association and collective bargaining are fully protected; and strengthen enforcement of its labour laws. It has also committed to adopt and maintain high levels of environmental protection and to effectively enforce its environmental laws. Fibre2Fashion News Desk (DS)

Trump announces trade deal with Japan, Philippines

US President Donald Trump has announced a trade framework with Japan, imposing a 15-per cent reciprocal tariff on goods imported from the latter. 'We just completed a massive Deal with Japan, perhaps the largest Deal ever made. Japan will invest, at my direction, $550 Billion Dollars into the United States, which will receive 90 per cent of the Profits,' Trump posted on his social networking platform Truth Social. President Donald Trump has announced a trade framework with Japan, imposing a 15-per cent reciprocal tariff on goods imported from the US. Japan will invest $550 into the US, which will receive 90 per cent of the profits, Trump posted on Truth Social. He also announced a trade deal with the Philippines that would impose a tariff of 19 per cent on its goods, while US items would face no tariffs. 'This Deal will create Hundreds of Thousands of Jobs—There has never been anything like it,' he noted. The United States 'will continue to always have a great relationship with the Country of Japan,' he added. Japan would open its economy to American autos and rice, the President's post said. The 15-per cent tariff on goods imported from Japan is less than the 25-per cent rate that Trump, in a recent letter to Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, said would be levied beginning August 1. Important details of the deal, however, remained unclear from his social media post. Trump also announced a trade framework with the Philippines that would impose a tariff of 19 per cent on its goods, while American products exported to that country would face no tariffs. He also reaffirmed his 19-per cent tariffs on Indonesia. The United States ran a $69.4 billion trade imbalance on goods with Japan last year, according to the US Census Bureau. It had a trade imbalance of $17.9 billion with Indonesia and an imbalance of $4.9 billion with the Philippines. Fibre2Fashion News Desk (DS)

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A mom from the North of England, U.K., received a shocking diagnosis after giving birth prematurely. Lauren Thomson (@laurenlou9x) shared a clip on TikTok and revealed that her baby boy was born at 33 weeks. Days later, she learned that her son has trisomy 21, also known as Down syndrome. "I didn't find out I was pregnant until 16 weeks," she said. "I had no symptoms or signs of pregnancy. I had no idea that I was going to have him early and no scans showed anything different to my other children." Trisomy 21, or Down syndrome, is a genetic condition caused by the presence of an extra copy of chromosome 21. It can result in developmental delays, characteristic facial features and an increased risk of certain health conditions. However, the severity and symptoms vary widely between individuals. Thomson's son was immediately admitted to the neonatal unit after he was born. "He has been looked after on 24-hour care," Thomson told Newsweek, adding that hospital staff have been amazing. "They check his obs regularly and feed him like their own," she said. But it wasn't until four days after delivery that doctors raised concerns. Nurses had noticed several physical markers often associated with Down syndrome, such as low muscle tone, a folded ear and almond-shaped eyes. "That's when they discussed... testing him, which I agreed to after they explained the reasons," Thomson said. "I was very confused and shocked when they told me about it all; I didn't really know what to say or think." Thomson wrote on the text overlay of her clip that she "knows very little" about trisomy 21. "It was the strangest situation I've ever been in," she told Newsweek. "I just agreed with them about testing him and then went home and did some research about what had been said." Thomson's clip has been viewed more than 650,000 times and received almost 20,000 likes. Hundreds have commented with overwhelming support and many others shared their own experiences with Down syndrome. "My son was born in 2017 with trisomy 21 and I can promise you that he will teach you to see the world in completely new colors," one user wrote. "Congratulations. My 6yo little girl surprised us with an extra chromosome too, she's the best thing that's ever happened to me. I found it helpful to reach out to other parents and we were welcomed into the DS [Down syndrome] community with open arms," another said.
