Cooperative banks play a pivotal role in economy, says Sridhar Babu

Hyderabad: IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu emphasised that cooperative banks in Telangana operate not for profit, but to serve community interests. He said that they follow the CARE model (Community-focused, Affordable & Accessible Credit, Relationship-based banking, Empowering Local Entrepreneurs). While formally inaugurating the Agrasen Bank's Ameerpet branch on Sunday, the Minister said that in support of this sector, the State Government has adopted the P.A.T.H. Framework: Policy Support, Access to Digital Tools, Training & Capacity Building and Hybrid Finance Ecosystems. 'This initiative promotes schemes such as self-employment loans for youth and underprivileged communities, financial linkages for women's self-help groups, and green loans,' he explained. The Minister said that there was a time when banks were merely associated with deposits and withdrawals. However, that definition has significantly evolved. 'Today, banks are leveraging technology to meet the changing needs and aspirations of customers, offering a wide range of services. Cooperative banks, in particular, have emerged as crucial institutions in the economic landscape—especially in delivering financial services to marginalized sections of society. According to the RBI Annual Report 2024, over 85 million citizens across the country now use cooperative banking services. The total deposits and advances in this sector have surpassed`5.5 lakh crore,' the Sridhar Babu highlighted. 'There are 48 Urban Cooperative Banks in Telangana, operating through 321 branches across urban and semi-urban regions. Their total business turnover for the previous financial year stood at Rs 17,000 crore, with a credit-deposit ratio of 66.7%. Branches in Kukatpally, Malakpet, and Ameerpet remain particularly active,' he added.

Sridhar urges Taiwanese to invest in TG's booming textile sector

Hyderabad: Telangana's Industries and IT Minister, D Sridhar Babu, has extended a cordial invitation to Taiwanese industrialists, urging them to invest in the state's burgeoning textile sector and become integral stakeholders in the 'Rising Telangana' narrative. Highlighting the abundant opportunities available in Telangana compared to other Indian states, the Minister underscored the state's rapid emergence as a formidable player in the textile industry. On Friday, a high-level Taiwanese textile delegation, comprising 11 members and led by Justin Huang, President of the Taiwan Textile Federation (TTF), paid a courtesy visit to the Minister at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat. 'Within a short span, Telangana has made significant strides in the textile sector, positioning itself on par with other leading states,' the Minister stated. He noted that the Gross State Value Added (GSVA) from industries for 2024-25 stands at Rs 2.77 lakh crore, with textiles playing a key role. 'Telangana produces some of the finest quality cotton in India,' he added. Sridhar Babu emphasised that the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park (KMTP), developed with special focus by the state government, has become a 'game-changer.' He explained that KMTP offers integrated, world-class infrastructure — from ginning, spinning, weaving, and processing to garmenting — all in one place. 'Leading companies like Youngone, Kitex, and Ganesha Ecosphere have already invested here,' he confirmed. The park is strategically connected to the Hyderabad–Nagpur–Vijayawada Industrial Corridor and benefits from excellent logistics and transport infrastructure. He pointed out vast opportunities for investment in areas like functional textiles, eco-friendly dyeing, and textile recycling. The Minister also assured the visiting delegation of the Telangana Government's commitment to driving industrial growth through global partnerships. 'We offer customised land parcels, plug-and-play facilities, a skilled workforce, effective leadership, a stable government, and strategic geographic advantage,' he stated. He further noted that sectors such as technical textiles, ESDM (Electronics System Design & Manufacturing), sustainable manufacturing, innovation, and R&D are ideal for collaboration with Taiwanese enterprises. Minister Sridhar Babu also proposed that, should Taiwanese investors come forward, the government would explore setting up a dedicated Telangana–Taiwan Manufacturing Zone and exclusive Textile Clusters. He reaffirmed Telangana's readiness to work closely with the Taiwan Textile Federation for the sector's growth.

Learn, unlearn, relearn to succeed: Minister Sridhar to students

HYDERABAD: IT Minister D Sridhar Babu said that in today's fast-changing world, outdated knowledge must be discarded to embrace new learning for success. He was addressing students at the 'MATA – TASK Free Online IT Training' certificate distribution ceremony at the TASK headquarters in Masab Tank on Tuesday. 'Learn, unlearn and relearn is now the definitive formula for success,' he said, urging students to stay updated with emerging technologies. Citing NASSCOM data, he pointed out that nearly 50% of graduates lack the skills needed for employment, especially in areas like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Analytics, Cybersecurity and Cloud Computing. Referring to job loss fears, the minister quoted the World Economic Forum, saying while automation may replace 8.5 crore jobs by 2025, it will also create 9.7 crore new ones. He stressed that, along with degrees and technical skills, students must develop 21st-century competencies such as critical thinking, communication, teamwork, adaptability and emotional intelligence. 'A life without purpose is like a letter without an address. Set your goals early and work relentlessly towards them,' he told students.

Bhatti, Sridhar Babu and Ponguleti ‘best performers'

Hyderabad: Heralding a change in assessing the performance of state ministers through transparent metrics, the department-wise review at the 19th Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy at the Secretariat on Thursday, threw up rather surprising results, with Finance and Energy Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, IT and Industry Minister D Sridhar Babu and Information & Public Relations, Revenue and Housing Minister P Srinivasa Reddy ahead of their Cabinet colleagues, including the Chief Minister, in the implementation of decisions taken in the previous 18 Cabinet meetings. The review on Thursday zeroed in on department-wise performance in the implementation of the Cabinet decisions till date. Thus, the 'performance' of the state ministers during the 18 months of the Congress government is now officially indexed and, more importantly, on papers. The state Cabinet analyzed the time-bound department-wise action plan prepared as per the Cabinet decisions and the way it was executed by each department, top sources said. Although all ministers were active enough to achieve the targets set by the government, a few of them went the extra mile by being more aggressive than their colleagues. Bhatti, also the Deputy Chief Minister, succeeded in formulating important energy policies, including that for green energy, finalizing agreements with other states in solar and hydel power generation, and in mobilizing resources to meet the growing finance requirements from time to time. The achievement of meeting power demand during peak hours in summer, covering domestic consumers as well as industrial consumers, as per the policies adopted by the government in the Cabinet meetings were appreciated. Sources said that IT and Industry Minister D Sridhar Babu's active role in implementing Cabinet decisions by inviting global investments for the setting up of industries was discussed in the Cabinet meet. The role of the minister in promoting the state as a destination for investments was analyzed and appreciated. The minister and the CM's role in 'TelanganaRising' has already drawn national attention, it was placed on record. However, the Chief Minister, who holds Municipal Administration and Urban Development, lagged in implementing the Musi Rejuvenation project since it faced a lot of hurdles in funding and evacuation of colonies alongside the Musi river in the city. The Chief Minister, who has kept Education and Home Departments with him, achieved good results in establishing Young India Integrated Residential Schools with the help of the Deputy CM. The Home Department's policy decisions to strength law and order and check cybercrimes attracted good outcomes. Although N Uttam Kumar Reddy succeeded in implementing the fine rice distribution and strengthening the Civil Supplies wing, he could not achieve targets in the irrigation sector as Irrigation Minister, sources said. Likewise, Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy was also not active in implementing the decisions mainly relating to the development of road network under HAM (Hybrid Annuity Model). On his part, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy completed his task of developing the Bhu Bharati portal and constructing the Indiramma houses at a fast pace. State Medical and Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha was also active in implementing several decisions but moved rather slowly in developing medical infrastructure. State Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar's performance was acknowledged for completing the Caste Survey with the cooperation of relevant departments, mainly the Planning Board. Endowments Minister K Surekha, Panchayat Raj Minister Seethakka, Excise and Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao and Agriculture Minister T Nageshwara Rao completed their tasks without haste. The newly inducted ministers – G Vivek (Labour and Employment Minister) Vivek, V Srihari (Animal husbandry) and A Laxman Kumar (Welfare) gave updates on implementing the last Cabinet decisions in their respective departments.
