Dubai International Airport named most connected hub in Asia-Pacific and Middle East
Dubai International (DXB) has maintained its position as the leading airport in ACI's 2024 Air Connectivity Ranking for the Asia-Pacific & Middle East. DXB topped the list of the top 10 hub airports for connectivity last year, followed by Shanghai Pudong International Airport, Qatar's Hamad International Airport, and Incheon International Airport in Seoul, South Korea. The ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East Air Connectivity Ranking, a comprehensive, passenger-centric analytical tool developed in collaboration with PwC in 2023, is refined for its third edition in 2025. It assesses performance through three fundamental building blocks – network scale and frequency, economic weight of destinations, and connection quality and efficiency. Commenting on the achievement, Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, said connectivity is the cornerstone of relevance in global aviation, and the operator was pleased to see Dubai International (DXB) recognised once again as the region's leading hub in ACI's 2024 Air Connectivity Ranking. 'What sets DXB apart is not only the scale of our network, but the consistency and quality of the connections the airport provides,' he said. ACI said on average, connectivity across all airports rose in both Asia-Pacific and the Middle East by more than 14 per cent last year. 'The Middle East, however, isn't just recovering – it's setting a new pace. Both intra-regional and inter-continental connectivity have not only bounced back but have exceeded pre-pandemic levels by a significant margin of 18 per cent and 16 per cent, respectively,' it said. Griffiths said DXB currently serves more than 265 destinations across six continents, reinforcing its contribution to global trade, tourism, and the creation of sustainable economic opportunities. 'But connectivity at this level only matters if it is delivered with precision. Our strength lies in combining reach with efficiency, ensuring fast, seamless and secure journeys for tens of millions of guests each year,' he added.

Dubai Airports Launches Major Operational Plan to Support Hajj Pilgrims
Dubai Airports has activated a large-scale operational plan at Dubai International (DXB) to ensure a smooth and seamless travel experience for over 3,100 pilgrims departing for Hajj 2025. The initiative, launched in coordination with government and airline partners, is designed to manage one of the busiest travel periods of the year, coinciding with Eid Al Adha and the summer peak. Pilgrims will travel on 28 dedicated flights operated by Emirates, flydubai, Saudia, and flynas. The official Dubai Government delegation will depart on 1 June from Terminal 3. Dubai Airports, working alongside the oneDXB community—which includes Dubai Police, GDRFA, Customs, dnata, and others—has implemented several key measures. These include dedicated check-in counters across Terminals 1, 2, and 3, multilingual support staff, prayer rooms, and Ihram changing facilities. Designated baggage belts have also been assigned for the safe handling of Zamzam water. Pilgrims are advised to arrive at DXB at least four hours before departure and carry essential documents such as a passport, Emirates ID, Hajj permit, and vaccination certificate. Essa Al Shamsi, Senior Vice President of Terminal Operations at Dubai Airports, said the collaborative effort aims to ensure pilgrims 'depart with confidence and return with ease.' Return flights are expected between 9 and 12 June, with preparations in place to provide coordinated baggage support and a warm reception, including a token of appreciation. The official delegation from the Government of Dubai will commence their journey on the first official Hajj flight from Terminal 3 on June 1. Last month it was reported that DXB retained the title of the World's Busiest International Airport in 2024. A record 92.3 million passengers travelled through Dubai's international airport last year. The figure broke the previous high of 89.1 million in 2018. In a statement, Dubai's ruler and UAE Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum called the airport a 'global success story' and said it was targeting 400 international destinations, up from 272 currently.
