New on HBO Max in June 2025 — all the new shows and movies to watch

Summer is just around the corner, and HBO Max is heating up with a wave of new movies and shows. With an impressive lineup from HBO, Warner Bros. Discovery, and acclaimed studios like A24, the soon-to-be renamed HBO Max solidifies its position as one of the best streaming platforms yet again. This month marks the return of the hit period drama "The Gilded Age" for its third season, so get ready for more high-society scandals and relationship drama. You'll also find "Cleaner," a new action thriller starring Daisy Ridley from "Casino Royale" director Martin Campbell, on the streamer as well as A24's fantasy romance "Parthenope." The blockbuster "A Minecraft Movie" is making its way to HBO Max too, so you can experience its chaotic charm without leaving your couch (or braving the popcorn-strewn theaters). Without further ado, let's dive into everything new on HBO Max in June 2025. For even more streaming recommendations, be sure to check out our guide to the best movies on Max. Legendary 007 director Martin Campbell is back with another British action thriller that, while an obvious "Die Hard" clone, is still a fun, breezy watch if you're in the mood for some pulse-pounding action. And aren't too afraid of heights. Star Wars alum Daisy Ridley takes center stage as Joey, an ex-soldier turned window cleaner who spends her days at dizzying heights along London's high-rises. When her neurodivergent brother Michael (Matthew Tuck) gets kicked out of his umpteenth care home after hacking their system, she reluctantly brings him to work with her as she tries to straighten things out. But her day goes from bad to worse when an eco-terrorist organization led by Marcus Blake (Clive Owen) strikes the building she's cleaning, taking hostages at an energy company's annual gala in an attempt to expose corruption. It's up to her to save the day by taking justice into her own hands, Bruce Willis style, with plenty of vertigo-inducing shots to keep you on the edge of your seat. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Stream on HBO Max on June 13 The Russells continue their upward climb in New York City society this month when season 3 of Max's Emmy-winning series "The Gilded Age" premieres. Julian Fellowes' period drama has slowly grown into one of the streamer's biggest shows, and its next outing promises more high-society shenanigans, messy romance arcs and fashionably gorgeous headwear. Season 3 promises to get back to Fellowes' "Downton Abbey" roots with a healthy helping of relationship drama. After Bertha (Carrie Coon) managed to win the opera war in season 2 by offering Gladys (Taissa Farmiga) as part of a marriage proposal, the mother and daughter's relationship has hit rock bottom. Love is in the air as Russell family heir Larry (Harry Richardson) embarks on a new romance with Marian Brook (Louisa Jacobson) from the rival Van Rhijn family. Meanwhile, the Russells' social life couldn't be better now that they've safely positioned themselves at the top of society. But whether they can keep their spot on the throne is the real challenge. Stream on HBO Max starting June 22 If you've been holding out to watch "A Minecraft Movie" from the comfort of your couch instead of braving the "Chicken jockey" chaos in theaters, it lands on HBO Max this month. The June Max calendar only lists it as "coming soon" with no exact premiere date, but streaming tracker When to Stream predicts it should be around June 20. The story follows a ragtag crew of misfits (Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers, and Sebastian Hansen), who stumble through a portal into the Minecraft Overworld. Their imaginations are put to the test as they team up with Steve (Jack Black), a seasoned crafter who's been stuck there for decades, to get back home. Even if you've never touched the game, there's plenty to enjoy in this sugar rush of pixelated fun. It's packed with plenty of quirky charm thanks to "Napoleon Dynamite" director Jared Hess, and Jack Black delivers a standout performance that's sure to win over a new generation of fans. Fandoms have also become increasingly powerful — and toxic. Adult fans have a lot of disposable income to spend on cinema tickets (which are expensive these days), merchandise, and theme parks. They also don't always behave well on the internet. Look at how Bella Ramsey is currently being treated by fans of The Last of Us video games. Or how the young stars of the Star Wars sequel trilogy were appallingly treated. Daisy Ridley had to quit Instagram over the harassment she faced, much of it sexist, while John Boyega was frequently the target of racial abuse. Fan is a truncation of fanatic, and in the febrile atmosphere of online platforms it doesn't take much to spark a torrent of hate at a public figure.

Marcos meets cast of 'The Last Resort'

President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Wednesday met the cast and crew of the film ''The Last Resort," which stars Daisy Ridley and Alden Ehrenreich. During the courtesy call at the Malacañang Palace, the crew and cast showed few short clips of the movie to the President, who expressed his appreciation to the filmmakers for showcasing the Philippines and contributing to the promotion of the country's tourism as well as film industries. ''I am so happy that now that you are in fact here and the work has started and it's all terribly exciting for all of us and thank you for coming to the Philippines... hopefully helping us project the Philippines out into the world, the way Filipinos see our own country and it's a country we're very, very proud of,'' Marcos said. The romantic comedy film is backed by business magnate Manuel Pangilinan as executive producer, along with producers Ernesto "Bong" Sta. Maria Jr. and Raja Collins. Earlier reports said the movie follows a hotel executive sent to scout a new resort location in the Philippines. She will soon meet Ben, a charming expatriate charter pilot. —MGP, GMA Integrated News

Is John Boyega NOT Going to be in Daisy Ridley's Next Star Wars?

We know that Daisy Ridley is going to be starring in another Star Wars movie as Rey Skywalker, and fans have been wondering just which of her Sequel Trilogy co-stars will be coming back. Some have been hoping that John Boyega would return as Finn, but after a recent talk with ScreenRant, it's possible that he may not actually have a part in it. Boyega tells SR: 'I'm just hoping that Daisy gets that chance to shine in a franchise that's finally hers, as a Jedi that's fully qualified, I can't wait to watch it. I really can't. I'm happy for her.' Admittedly, Boyega has gone public about not being pleased with the direction his character took in the Sequel Trilogy. He had said that he thought he was going to be the new Jedi lead, what with Finn wielding the Skywalker lightsaber in the promos, but instead the lightsaber came to Rey, and Finn was treated as a sort of red herring. If anything, his journey as a reformed stormtrooper-turned-rebel did have a solid arc all the way up to the original plans for Episode IX , but directors were fired and plans were changed, and The Rise of Skywalker seemed to be more concerned about giving Finn a girlfriend in the form of Naomi Ackie. Fans are still holding out for Finn to get his proper hero's journey onscreen, but based on what Boyega said, it's possible he could be sitting this Rey Skywalker movie out. Fingers crossed he shows up in a future project though because Finn still has a lot of potential as a character. Who knows? Maybe he is in the movie, and this is just some misdirection until Lucasfilm confirms his involvement? We'll just have to wait and see. No release date has been set for Rey's New Jedi Order movie.

Skellig Michael will not reopen to visitors due to legal challenge by boat operators

Skellig Michael, where some of the most iconic scenes of the recent Star Wars movies were filmed, will not reopen as scheduled this weekend because of a legal challenge by three boat operators whose permits were not renewed. The Office of Public Works (OPW), which manages the Unesco World Heritage Site island also known as Sceilg Mhicíl, said it sought to issue permits for 2025 despite an initial legal challenge, but there has been a further legal challenge this week. Guides have been specifically trained for the opening of the island along with maintenance and conservation crews and the OPW is 'acutely aware of the importance of the island to south Kerry', it said. Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) in a scene shot on Skellig Michael from 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi', one of two films in the franchise that used the Kerry island as a shooting location. Picture: Jonathan Olley/Lucasfilm The delay is leading to fears that the south Kerry area will lose millions of euro in business this season. There have been calls for temporary permits to be issued to boat operators including to those who were unsuccessful. Villages claim they will be down hundreds of visitors this weekend alone because of cancellations. The Skellig Michael landing season — with boats from Portmagee, Derrynane, Ballinskelligs, and Valentia — operates between May and the third week of September each year. A maximum of 180 visitors a day is allowed land on the seventh century monastic island 11.5km off the Kerry coast. Skellig Michael boat permits for bringing passengers take into account sea vessel safety and restrictions on numbers visiting, as well as the unique and very challenging landing conditions on the fragile island which is both a heritage site and a special conservation area for birds. As well as being the location of a monastic settlement founded some 1,400 years ago, Skellig Michael off the coast of Co Kerry in Ireland is a special area of conservation for birds including Atlantic Puffins. The island is also a statutory nature reserve and forms part of Páirc Náisiúnta na Mara, Ciarraí. Picture: Valerie O'Sullivan Some 15 boat landing permits are normally offered for five-year terms, to be renewed annually under a public tendering system. However, three operators whose permits were not renewed for 2025 have now taken a judicial review. Three other operators were selected but none of the approved 15 permits have been issued. Mark Conway, who runs the shop and post office in Portmagee, said south Kerry would expect to see 250 people arriving in the area on Saturday. The 180 people booked to visit the island would be accompanied by people who would wish to visit Valentia and other attractions, Mr Conway said. It's a blow to south Kerry. All of south Kerry including Killarney is affected. Bookings in B&Bs have been cancelled and pubs, restaurants, and coffee shops as well as shops were suffering, he claimed. Ideal weather conditions this weekend would compensate for later in the season when boats would not be able to run but those days are now lost completely, Mr Magee said. Rows over the awarding of permits to land on the Skellig have led to at least three legal actions in the past decade. Local TD and Fianna Fáil spokesman for tourism, Michael Cahill, has called for 'common sense to prevail' and allow the existing licensees plus the newly-appointed three to operate as normal for the season, 'even if judicial reviews are pending'. Andrea Paolucci and Giorgia Gallerani square off in Star Wars costumes at St Finian's Bay, Ballinskelligs, Co Kerry, with Skellig Michael and Skellig Beag in the distance. Tourism operators in the area point out that while access to the island itself is carefully limited, many tourists come just to see the island from villages and beaches along the coast. Picture: Valerie O'Sullivan Permits could be issued allowing 18 boat operators this year with a reduction to 10 passengers per boat instead of the normal 12, he suggested. In a statement, the OPW said it had sought to issue permits. 'The OPW has lodged a motion before the High Court seeking permission to issue Sceilg Mhichíl boat operator permits for Summer 2025 to the successful applicants in a recent competition. "This follows a high court challenge from unsuccessful participants in the open competition to operate the boat licences. 'The OPW ran a competition in late 2024 to award 15 permits for summer 2025 and onwards. The number of permits is limited to protect the fragile ecosystem of Sceilg Mhicíl. 'In April 2025, two unsuccessful participants in the competition brought High Court proceedings challenging the outcome of the competition. "Under Irish and EU law, this means that the OPW is precluded from issuing permits for summer 2025, until the proceedings are resolved (or unless the court gives permission to issue permits).'
