Aamir Khan Says He Loved Shah Rukh Khan In DDLJ: 'Main Usse Thodi Compete Kar Raha Hu?'

Last Updated: Aamir Khan recalls his healthy rivalry with Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan and says he never competed out of negativity or jealousy. When three superstars like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan rise to fame in the same era, comparisons and competition are bound to follow. But how did Aamir view this dynamic during the peak of their careers in the 90s? Speaking to Raj Shamani on his podcast, Aamir Khan shared his perspective on being part of the trio that defined Bollywood for decades. According to the Dangal actor, competition existed — but never in a negative sense. 'Har koi ye chahta hai ki sabse zyada wo successful ho, sabse zyada log uske kaam ko pasand kare, aur ye acchi baatein hoti hai," Aamir said, adding that it's natural for every actor to want recognition and love from audiences. He stressed that his drive was never rooted in envy or rivalry. 'Main negative kaam kar hi nahi sakta. Meri taraf se competition hamesha healthy raha hai. Mujhe dusron ke kaam se inspiration milti hai, unki success se kabhi pareshaan nahi hota. Mera competition khud se hota hai," Aamir explained. Aamir also opened up about how he felt watching Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, a film that became a cultural milestone and catapulted Shah Rukh Khan to iconic status. 'Mujhe ye nahi tha ki main DDLJ jaisi badi romantic film karu kyuki mujhe wo film achi lagti hai. SRK ne bahut kamaal ka kaam kiya hai. Bahut achi lagti hai mujhe, mujhe bhi dekh ke mazaa aata hai. To main usse thodi compete kar raha hu," he said, making it clear that admiration, not rivalry, defined his outlook. Meanwhile, Aamir Khan recently said he and the other two Khans of Bollywood -Shah Rukh and Salman- want to work on a film together and are waiting for the right script to come their way. The prospect of the Khan troika appearing in a movie is something the audience is also looking forward to, Aamir said at a meet-and-greet event a day ahead of his 60th birthday. While Aamir and Salman were famously featured in the 1994 cult comedy Andaz Apna Apna, he has never co-starred with Shah Rukh Khan. Salman and Shah Rukh, however, have featured together in films such as Karan Arjun (1995), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam (2005), and Pathaan (2023). Aamir Khan says he met girlfriend Gauri Spratt ‘by mistake', calls ex-wives Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao his forever family: ‘Thought I didn't need a partner'

Aamir Khan made headlines after he confirmed his relationship with Gauri Spratt. In a recent interaction, Aamir revealed that while he wasn't actively seeking a relationship after his divorce from Kiran Rao, his meeting with Gauri happened unexpectedly. He also spoke about his bond with his ex-wives – Kiran Rao and Reena Dutta, how they still work together for their non-profit venture, and how he considers them his forever family. Speaking to Raj Shamani, Aamir said, 'Before I met Gauri, I felt like I had aged and who will I find in this age. Also my therapy started and I understood that I need to love myself first and make myself healthy. So, I worked on that. I had two very strong, deep relationships with Kiran and Reena and we are close till date and we still respect each other. I never thought I would meet anyone with whom I can bond this way.' Sharing how he met Gauri, Aamir Khan said, 'Gauri and I met by mistake and we connected and we became friends, and love happened. I thought I have my mother, kids, siblings – I have so many close relationships that I don't need a partner. Kiran, Reena and I still work together for the Paani Foundation, and we sit and talk everyday and there is a genuine love and warmth between us as a family and we will always be family. We might not be husband and wife but we will always be family. They will always be an unshaken part of my family and life.' The Dangal actor also spoke about his bond with ex-wife Kiran Rao and how the two have always supported each other. He said, 'Even after separation, Kiran and I are very close. I remember we got divorced and then we went to Ladakh to shoot Laal Singh Chaddha and we were invited to a village's celebration and we both danced there. So, the video of us dancing there went viral and many people questioned that, 'They are dancing together but they just got divorced.' I can't explain this to people – we have a deep bond. She supported me a lot during Laal Singh Chaddha and I supported her during Laapata Ladies. We have a very healthy relationship.' Aamir Khan and Reena Dutta tied the knot in 1986. They ended their marriage in 2002. They are parents to son Junaid Khan and daughter Ira Khan. Aamir then married Kiran Rao in 2005. But this marriage also didn't last, and they parted ways in 2021 after 15 years of marriage. They welcomed their son Azad Rao Khan in 2011.

Is Aamir Khan's ‘dream project' Mahabharat going to be his last film? Sitaare Zameen Par actor reveals TRUTH

Ever since Aamir Khan revealed about starting work on his next big dream project inspired by the Indian mythological tale Mahabharat, fans cannot keep calm. The actor, who is gearing up for the release of his upcoming movie Sitaare Zameen Par, plans to begin work on this magnum opus right after. Sometime back, Mr. Perfectionist had opened up about retiring. And now, in a recent interview, he yet again hinted at Mahabharat being his last project. Yes! You heard that right. Aamir Khan might retire after working on Mahabharat. No, we are not saying this, but Aamir Khan himself hinted at this in a recent podcast with Raj Shamani. The actor was asked if he is about to make his last film, then what does he want it to be about? The actor paused for a while, and what he replied will leave you surprised. Replying to this question, Aamir admitted that it's his dream to make Mahabharat. He further revealed starting work on it right after Sitaare Zameen Par 's release. The Laal Singh Chadha star further added that after working on Mahabharat, maybe he will get the feeling that now he has nothing left in him to do. He cannot do anything after this, as the material of this film is going to be like that. 'Layered hai, emotion hai, scale hai, har cheez hai usme. Har cheez jo duniya me hai wo aapko Mahabharat me milegi,' added the star. He further quipped, 'I hope that I die with my shoes on, lekin kyuki aap puch rahe to ek hi cheez hai jo main soch sakta hu. Shayad ye karne ke baad mere andar wo emotion aaye ki ab iske baad mujhe kuch nahi karna, shayad.' While talking to The Hollywood Reporter a while back, Aamir spoke about Mahabharat. "That's one of my biggest ambitions," he stated, adding that just the writing process will take a few years. Aamir said that he will be joining the team as one of the producers. When asked if he will be acting in the film too, the Dangal actor stated, "We'll see who we should cast based on who's appropriate for which part." When asked if he would be taking over the director's chair for the magnum opus, the actor stated that Mahabharat is one film that can't be told in one go. While it's early to say if he will helm the movie, he divulged that the story will be told across multiple films. Hence, for that, they will need multiple directors if they have to plan it within a certain timeline.
