Daniel Boulud will headline NYC's Le Dîner en Blanc

The all-white affair that is Le Dîner en Blanc is returning to NYC this fall, landing in an undisclosed location on September 19. Billed as the 'World's Largest Dinner Party,' the roaming event gathers thousands of people around the globe, all clad in white, to celebrate an evening of gathering, food and revelry under the stars. This year, lucky New Yorkers attending the French-inspired picnic will be joined by an authority of the cuisine itself: the one and only Daniel Boulud. The acclaimed chef, restaurateur and cookbook author will be curating picnic baskets for the exclusive evening. 'Dîner en Blanc always brings a burst of French summer feasts to cities around the world in a celebration of friendship, fashion, and food,' said Boulud in a press release. 'As a French New Yorker, I'm honored to prepare a festive picnic basket for this magical evening. It will certainly be the largest and chicest gathering of fête a laFrancaise!' Priced for $130 per person, the Épicerie Boulud Basket: Capucine includes plenty of nibbles, including green gazpacho and paté en croûte to lavash, hummus and baba ganoush spreads. The Roasted Chicken Salad serves as the main, and the basket includes two desserts: a raspberry shortcake with vanilla creme and poppy seeds and orange blossom madeleines. If your tastes lean towards vegetarian, you can order the Épicerie Boulud Basket: Tournesol. For $115, the basket includes all the fixins' listed up above, but swaps the chicken for the Vaduvan Cauliflower. While reserving the food is not a requirement, the inclusion of the picnic baskets may just help lighten your load. You see, as luxe as the party puts on, Le Dîner en Blanc is incredibly DIY, calling back to the party's roots as an informal gathering of friends. Despite its now worldwide status, making cameos at 120 cities in over 40 countries around the world, the event is partially curated by its guests, as attendees are required to bring tables, chairs and food (if you don't end up choosing the catered option). If you'd rather not lug your foldout chairs on the subway, the New York party provides rented furniture with two tables and two chairs priced at $86. Don't forget to pack the decor, as this year, diners are challenged to wear outfits and create tablescapes that fit the global theme: floral elegance. This is all on top of the entry fee, priced at $60. As polarizing as the event may be, the pop-up dinner party has taken over some iconic locations in NYC. First arriving in the city back in 2011, the soiree commandeered the streets of the Meatpacking District in 2023, and last year, the party turned Union Square Park white as 3,000 people took over the square.

Rockefeller Center is now home to a fancy Mexican steakhouse

New York isn't lacking when it comes to finding a great steak. But it's not all just heavy wood-paneled rooms this and tufted plush booths that. In fact, the reason why our scene is so great is because of the contemporary takes on the art form, many of which draw influence on a global scale. Daniel Boulud debuted his French-leaning ode to steak with La Tête d'Or last year, teasing us with Sweetbread Nuggets and French Wedge Salads before the pièce de resistance wheels up to the table: the prime rib trolley. Meanwhile, Korean-inflected steakhouses rank in their own category in NYC, as prime cuts are rubbed with shio kombu and koji at Gui Steakhouse and lamb chops are slicked with ssamjang at Golden Hof - Korean Bar & Grill (recently rebranded from NY Kimchi). Even this year, the title of the best steakhouse in the world went to the ever-buzzy Korean BBQ-slash-steakhouse that is Cote. Another global leaning steakhouse made its debut in midtown this summer and the influence here is all Mexico. Last month, Rockefeller Center welcomed Cuerno to its ranks, opening its doors on June 19. From co-founders Alberto Martínez and Victor Setién of the Costeño Group, the steakhouse pays tribute to Mexico's culinary traditions, paying particular attention to its roots in live-fire grilling. 'Bringing Cuerno to New York City has been a longtime dream," said Martínez in a press release. 'This opening represents the heart of who we are and where we come from. It's a tribute to our roots, our culture, and the flavors we grew up with, and it gives us the opportunity to share the true spirit of Mexican hospitality with the world.' The interior is certainly a handsome find with light woods intermixed with brick elements, curved booths wrapped in tan leather and an illuminated wine cellar stocked with varietals from the homeland of Mexico. It's all framed by a mural from Saltillo-based artist Federico Jordán that sits in the dining room, fashioned from tiles made of soil that comes from northern Mexico. But that's just a feature of one of the dining rooms as Cuerno houses over 200 seats across its bi-level property, including a lower level for seating with a corner dedicated to private dining and an outdoor patio right out front. Putting the brand's philosophy of 'el servicio más chingón' to practice, each table starts with a complimentary frozen hibiscus margarita. It's then followed by a tray of chips and salsas, plural, as five different types hit the table, including a smoky matcha salsa. Shareables continue with Chihuahua cheese and chorizo-topped Queso Fundidos, salads that sub croutons for bits of fried pork chicharrón and cold hamachi slices lashed with chile chiltepín. There's an entire section dedicated to tacos, be it the thinly sliced ribeye that nods to Mexico's Taco el Chingón or the golden-fried, bite-sized branzino option, cooked Baja-style. Yet, the flashiest of them all goes to the Taco Taquero. More of an experience than just an entree, the $38 tacos include a tableside presentation where a chef chops pearl onions and ribeye steak together before spooning fire-roasted bone marrow over it. But make sure to hold onto the salsas to dress up your tacos, your way. However, if you'd rather have a steak outside of the confines of a tortilla, you can have that too. Aged for 24 days, steaks are prepped in the kitchen's Josper Charcoal Oven, an imported Spanish grill with the ability to caramelize and imbue smoke on veggies and proteins alike. USDA Prime cuts find their way through the smoke in the flame, as the kitchen turns out Ribe Eye a la Sal and Tomahawk, both crusted in Colima sea salt, and the short rib, slow roasted over a 12-hour period. By the time the meal ends, you may think you are full. But we implore you to save, or really, make room for the Pastel de Campechanas. One of the more popular desserts, evident by its constant appearance on trays and tables throughout the restaurant, the massive, caramelized puff pastry comes with a complement of vanilla ice cream, candied pecans and a heavy helping of dulce de leche.

Celebrity Chef Scott Conant To Open Swanky New Italian Restaurant At Baha Mar

Leola is set to open at Baha Mar this fall Scott Conant, the two-time James Beard Award-winning chef, celebrated cookbook author, and television personality is making his way to Baha Mar, one of the Caribbean's leading luxury resorts in The Bahamas, with an original culinary concept: Leola. Leola is the newest restaurant at the expansive Baha Mar resort, where it joins a slew of other celebrity chef hot spots including Marcus Samuelsson's Marcus at Baha Mar Fish + Chop House, Daniel Boulud's Cafe Boulud, and Dario Cecchini's Carna. Plus the recently opened casino floor concept — Jon Batiste's Jazz Club. 'Bringing Leola to life at Baha Mar is something I've dreamed about for a long time,' says Conant. 'I'm tremendously honored to have the opportunity to open a restaurant in such a special place. I really love the culture of the team at Baha Mar and it's inspiring to see everything they've accomplished over the last five or six years since its opening.' Scott Conant The name Leola is Conant's playful twist on leone, the Italian word for lion. 'I like the way it sounds coming off the tongue,' explains Conant. 'There's an elegance and an inherently Italian feel to it.' It also serves as a heartfelt nod to his grandfather who often used the word affectionately throughout Conant's childhood. 'When they asked what I envisioned for this concept, I told them I wanted a very swanky Italian joint,' says Conant. And swanky is exactly what he got as one step in and you're transported to a bygone era through rich velvet furnishings, gilded detailing, ornate chandeliers, and warm, ambient lighting, creating an atmosphere that combines timelessness and modern sophistication. Set within an expansive 8,800 square foot space, the restaurant will offer a refined culinary experience featuring a 106 seat main dining room, an intimate cocktail lounge, a private dining room, and a very spacious 130 seat outdoor terrace that will feature its own bar. Leola's outdoor bar The new outdoor bar will serve as a gathering place for those who want to grab a quick bite and a drink or two, and will be the perfect spot to hangout while waiting for a table. 'We want to make sure the experience is engaging as soon as guests walk through the door,' says Conant who explains he likes to consider thoughtfulness as a key factor in the concepts he creates. Conant has partnered with Lowder-Tascarella Hospitality to oversee the operations for all of his restaurants, including Leola. 'I'm over the moon to be working with these guys,' says Conant. 'I feel like I've leveled up in all aspects since working with them and it's very exciting to see what they are bringing to Leola.' Aiming to create a restaurant that will fulfill that expectation of the resort's clientele, Conant explains it makes sense for him to lean into the Italian style of food he's been known for over the span of his career. 'There will be a version of my Pomodoro that I'm excited to put on the menu,' says Conant. And fans of his famed polenta will be happy to know it will make its way to Leola in a new and delicious format as part of an 'Ossobucco' roasted pork shank served with saffron polenta. Additionally, Conant plans on using as much local product as possible and will feature some dishes that are inspired by the Caribbean. Leola The beverage program will offer an extensive selection of Old World wines with an emphasis on Italian Barolo vintages in addition to an exciting cocktail menu. "Baha Mar continues to define culinary excellence throughout the Caribbean, thanks to our outstanding restaurants and world-class chef partners," said Graeme Davis, President of Baha Mar. "For many years, Scott Conant has been a passionate champion and valued friend of Baha Mar and we're honored to officially welcome him and his talented culinary team into our dining portfolio.' The restaurant aims to open early this fall, which is perfect timing for the fourth annual Bahamas Culinary & Arts Festival that will take place from October 22nd to 26th. Conant will be present and hosting three different events — with a few of them taking place inside Leola — including Tasting Tuscany with Scott Conant, Signature Chef Hosted Dinner with Scott Conant & Amanda Freitag, and Coconuts & Cocktails with Marcus Samuelsson, Scott Conant & Marv '
