A sorry tale that could get worse before it gets better

Non-football and football employees at Sheffield Wednesday still haven't been paid their wages for May. There are ways and means of raising funds to rectify this situation. Academy star Caelan-Kole Cadamarteri is being linked with clubs like Manchester City. Wednesday could make it clear they're willing to negotiate on manager Danny Rohl's release clause, something they should have done weeks ago given what has since occurred at there's something desperately sad about a club selling off assets simply to pay staff who are not on a lot of money and are understandably concerned about when they're going to get their wages in if they sell Cadamarteri or allow Rohl to pursue another job at a knock-down price to get through the current crisis, the club surely can't just limp along waiting for the next financial dilemma? But what is the solution to avoiding this? It's my understanding no party is anywhere near to buying the club from Dejphon Chansiri and it's unclear if there are any serious bidders anyway. It seems like a complex situation behind the scenes and it might not be as simple as an individual or consortium agreeing to a quick does that mean then? If the club is some way off a takeover, is it even possible to carry on even if funds are raised?Meanwhile you've got contracted players probably looking at the situation with utter disbelief. You wouldn't blame them for wanting out. Who will manage the team next season? The idea that in about six weeks, with the new season on the horizon, that it'll be business as usual feels like a total a sad, sorry tale for a football club that has lurched from one problem to the next in a 25-year spell outside of the top-flight. It probably deserves more national attention than it's getting. What is the future of Sheffield Wednesday? The fact you can't answer that question with any certainty should be big headline Betts MP released a statement pleading for a buyer to come forward to save the club this week. Many fans who speak to us, though, fear things will get worse before they get better.

Sheffield Wednesday charged over failing to pay players as EFL sounds warning

Sheffield Wednesday have been charged by the EFL for "multiple breaches" relating to the club's payment obligations. In March, the Championship club failed to pay the players their salaries on time due to what were described as "cashflow" issues. It has since been reported there were also problems with payments for May - which are also said to have included non-playing club staff and other employees. The EFL described the situation as "clearly concerning", with the governing body "considering all the options available". On Tuesday, the EFL subsequently confirmed formal action had now been initiated. "Sheffield Wednesday Football Club has been charged with multiple breaches of EFL regulations relating to payment obligations," a statement from the EFL read. "The owner of Sheffield Wednesday, Dejphon Chansiri, has also been charged with causing the club to be in breach of EFL Regulations despite his commitment to fund the cash requirements of the club. "All charges relate to both the Ultimate Beneficial Owner and the club failing to meet their obligations to pay players' wages on time and in full in March and May 2025. "The club and Mr Chansiri have 14 days to respond to the charges." Wednesday finished 12th in the Championship - and manager Danny Rohl has been linked with a move away during the summer. The club later issued a statement in which Chansiri offered his "sincere apologies" to everyone who had been impacted, with a resolution sought "at the earliest possible opportunity". "Sheffield Wednesday acknowledge the statement issued by the EFL on Tuesday afternoon," a statement on the Owls' official website read. "The club continue to seek a resolution regarding outstanding salaries due for the month of May at the earliest possible opportunity. "Mr Chansiri sincerely apologises to all players, coaches and staff affected and everyone connected with the club.

Sheff Wed players sent letter as wages unpaid with club facing transfer embargo

For the second time in three months, Sheffield Wednesday's players and some staff were not paid on time amid increasing pressure on under-fire owner Dejphon Chansiri Sheffield Wednesday players were not paid their wages on time for May, leaving the club in immediate danger of a three transfer window embargo. Owls stars and some staff did not receive, or only partly received, their pay packets on Friday. It represents the second time in three months wages have not been received on time, following a similar incidence in March. The club could now be hit with a sanction from the EFL as they sit on the brink of hitting the 30-day default that would see them banned from signing players. ‌ The club has sent a letter to players and staff affected, assuring them that wages should be paid on Monday. The exact timing will dictate as to whether the club is indeed prevented from paying transfer or loan fees for the next three windows. ‌ "We anticipate outstanding payments will be made in full during the course of this Monday and sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused," the letter reads, report the Sheffield Star. "We understand that such delays create financial pressure and want to reassure our staff that the club is here to support you and ensure that no one suffers any financial hardship… If you are facing any immediate financial difficulties as a result of this delay, please don't hesitate to contact your Line Manager or Department Head, who will aid the access of emergency funding we have in place.' It comes a mid a turbulent period for the club following a season of progress on the field. The Owls finished 12th in the Championship under highly-rated boss Danny Rohl having achieved a great escape to preserve their second-tier status the previous campaign. ‌ But protests against the ownership of Thai tuna magnate Dejphon Chansiri have gathered pace over the course of the last six months. A disastrous fans' forum in January, where he told fans the club's future was none of their business, was the catalyst for widespread action. This increased in March when wages went unpaid, and the latest news is bound to cause more unrest. "We are once again appalled to hear reports that employees of Sheffield Wednesday Football Club, have reportedly not been paid again," the club's Supporters' Trust said. ‌ "If these reports are accurate, this is simply unacceptable. We demand that the club immediately provides a clear and transparent explanation of the situation. Silence and ambiguity are no longer tolerable. "We reiterate our firm belief that Dejphon Chansiri must sell the club without further delay. His continued ownership is proving catastrophic for Sheffield Wednesday and everyone connected with it." Some fans are now calling for the EFL to step in, with fears the Owls could go the same way as Reading who were hit with transfer embargoes, points deductions and further trouble before finally being rescued from the abyss caused by Dai Yongge. In a further kick to the stomach for supporters, Chansiri has recently rejected two offers from a US-based consortium to take over at Hillsborough. The Florida-based group is understood to include professional athletes as well as other investors.

Southampton ANNOUNCE Will Still as new manager one hour before final game of the season vs Arsenal

SOUTHAMPTON have tasked Will Still with leading them back to the Premier League. Saints have confirmed their appointment of the Belgian-born English coach, 32, on a three-year deal and the young boss has already targeted promotion. 1 The announcement came just an hour before kick-off in their final game of the dismal season at home to Arsenal. Russell Martin led the south coast side up through the play-offs last year but was dismissed in December, with Southampton going on to be relegated earlier than any club in Premier League history. Southampton had been targeting their former assistant Danny Rohl, who will leave Sheffield Wednesday this summer. But there is competition for the German who is taking time to make a decision on his future, causing Saints to move elsewhere. Still, who wanted to become a coach after playing the videogame Football Manager in his youth, recently announced his decision to leave Lens in France where he also managed Stade de Reims as the youngest manager in Europe's top five leagues. He said: 'I'm extremely proud and excited to have joined Southampton. "There is huge potential here and we have a great opportunity to do something special. 'The project that has been laid out to me is very impressive and, all together, I believe we can build a clear identity and a very positive future for the team. 'I can't wait to meet you, the fans. I look forward to hearing you in voice, and feeling the energy and belief at St Mary's and beyond. 'I'm eager to get to work this summer and start building a close-knit group that can make everyone proud and ultimately get us back to where we belong; in the Premier League.' Still will be in attendance at St Mary's for the home clash with the Gunners. Saints new technical director, Johannes Spors, said: 'Will is a young, innovative manager who has already gained significant experience throughout his career, and we have been extremely impressed both by his track record and our conversations with him. 'What was very apparent in our discussions was the clarity of his philosophy and the identity he wants his teams to have, but also his willingness and ability to adapt to different situations as they present themselves, which will be an important quality in the Championship next season. 'We were very impressed by his personality and his values, and we feel he will be an excellent fit for the culture we are looking to build at Staplewood.'

Highly-rated Still recently left his role as manager of RC Lens earlier this month after leading the club to an eighth-placed finish in Ligue 1 and cited a desire to be closer to his family back in England. Still's parner, Sky Sports presenter Emma Saunders, revealed she had encephalitis, a brain infection, in March. Advertisement The 32-year-old will sign a three-year contract with the Saints, set to be announced on Sunday, and will be tasked with sealing an immediate return to the Premier League. Saints have endured a terrible season in the top flight this year and were relegated early in April, having won just two of their 37 games, although that – combined with six draws – at least meant they narrowly avoided matching Derby County's record low points total of 11. Russell Martin was in charge at the start of the season but was dismissed in December due to poor results and his successor, Ivan Juric, was unable to turn around Southampton's fortunes. He was let go after just 107 days in charge leaving the club searching for another manager, with Still now ready to fill the void. Former Sheffield Wednesday boss, Danny Rohl, was linked with the role before the appointment of Juric and was considered once again this time but the club hierarchy have opted for the much-touted Still, who initially burst to prominence as he impressed while in charge of Reims despite not yet having all his coaching badges. Advertisement He moved to Lens last summer but following their season-ending 4-0 win over Monaco earlier this month, Still revealed: 'I will not be the coach of RC Lens next season. Today was my last match of the season at Bollaert. 'The main reason pushing me to make this decision is the fact that I need to return home. Everyone is well aware of what has happened in my life. That's why.'
