Big Ten coach has high expectations for Oregon Football QB Dante Moore in 2025

Big Ten coach has high expectations for Oregon Football QB Dante Moore in 2025 The Oregon Ducks will look quite different in 2025 than they did a year ago, and while fans will have many questions about where the talent comes from, and which players will end up producing the most, there is little concern about the amount of talent currently in Eugene. One of the players who many expect to step up in a major way this year is redshirt sophomore quarterback Dante Moore, a former 5-star recruit who sat behind Dillon Gabriel a year ago and learned the Ducks' system after transferring in from the UCLA Bruins. While some from the outside may see Moore as your "run-in-the-mill" transfer QB, he is much more than that. Because of his year studying the offense and picking it up behind a veteran like Dillon Gabriel, Moore has a leg up coming into 2025. In an interview with Athlon Sports Magazine, an anonymous Big Ten coach echoed that sentiment, having this to say about Moore and his early expectations in Eugene. 'They're pretty hyped on the quarterback [Dante Moore], who they've had in the system for a season already, which is a huge advantage," the coach said. "This isn't modifying your book for a guy you get out of the portal; it's a talented, developed player who already knows your system. I think that will show early on this season.' The Ducks will have several chances in September to allow Moore to ease his way into the offense with a relatively light early-season schedule. Oregon kicks off things against Montana State, followed by games against Oklahoma State, Oregon State, and Northwestern. After that, the biggest regular-season game of the year comes on September 27, when the Ducks travel to Happy Valley to face the Penn State Nittany Lions, who many have ranked as the No. 1 team in the nation going into the new year. If Moore is as good as expected, then this will be an incredibly entertaining rematch of the 2024 Big Ten Championship Game. After the light early load, this game will give everyone a great idea of just how good No. 5 can be for the Ducks. Dante Moore's draft stock could soar with a great 2025 season

Dante Moore's draft stock could soar with a great 2025 season A lot of heads turned when Dante Moore left UCLA to stand on the sidelines for a year at Oregon. This situation rarely happens in today's "play now" attitudes that transfers have. Playing time is usually the No. 1 reason players transfer from one program to another. Moore did sit out the majority of the 2024 season and watched Dillon Gabriel do his thing in Eugene. 2025 is finally here and by all accounts, the next Oregon quarterback did everything he possibly could do to be successful this season. According to an article by USA TODAY, Moore could go from being mediocre at UCLA to being a first-round draft pick if he has a great season. "(UCLA quarterback Nico) Iamaleava isn't the only former five-star quarterback from the 2023 recruiting class in need of a do-over. Moore joined the Ducks last year after an inauspicious freshman campaign at UCLA in which he completed just 53.5 percent of his passes and threw for 11 touchdowns with nine interceptions," writer Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz said. "After sitting for a season, he'll take over an offense that boasted Heisman Trophy finalists in each of the last two years with Bo Nix and Dillon Gabriel – who were both fellow transfers as well. Moore will have to reaffirm the poise and precision that made him such a highly sought-after recruit, but Oregon should equip him with the proper schematic and personnel support to allow him to flourish." While it was a head-scratcher at first, Moore's transfer to Oregon might turn out to be a brilliant move for everyone involved. Dante Moore named 'darkhorse' for Heisman Trophy in 2025

Dante Moore named 'darkhorse' for Heisman Trophy in 2025 Oregon has produced a Heisman finalist in each of the past two seasons Is Dante Moore next?👀 — PFF College (@PFF_College) May 20, 2025 "This is the year. (He) has improved so much under this new offense. He's focused. He's having fun. I wouldn't be surprised if he's a dark horse for the Heisman." That's a meme that has spread around college football circles online over the past several years, originally uttered about Bo Nix with the Auburn Tigers, and then the Oregon Ducks. Now it may be coming back around with Dante Moore, the expected QB in Eugene. After starting his career with the UCLA Bruins and showing flashes as a freshman, Moore chose to transfer to Oregon and sit behind Dillon Gabriel, learning and developing under Will Stein. In his year as a backup, he's improved greatly. He's focused on leading the Ducks to success. Most importantly, he appears to be having some fun. Now, people are calling him a dark horse for the Heisman Trophy in 2025. Earlier this week, Pro Football Focus' Max Chadwick threw that out, at least. Heisman talk is not entirely new for Moore, who is listed at +1800 for the award on FanDuel, the eighth-best odds in the nation. Leading up to the Rose Bowl, former Oregon WR Tez Johnson turned heads with his bold statement about Moore, claiming that No. 5 would be in New York for the December ceremony. "He'll be a Heisman finalist next year," Johnson said of Moore at the Rose Bowl media day. "100 percent. It's something you haven't seen yet. That boy can throw a ball like no other. I've never seen nothing like it." Johnson isn't the only Oregon pass-catcher to throw his weight behind Moore. Earlier this year, true freshman WR Dakorien Moore had a similar thing to say about his new QB. 'I think he will win the Heisman this year," Dakorien said. "Just because of who he is." As we get through the offseason and closer to the season's start, don't be surprised if this buzz continues to grow. Moore still needs to beat out Austin Novosad and Luke Moga to claim the starting job in Eugene officially, but with his pedigree and talent, there isn't much doubt that he will be able to flourish in the Will Stein offense. Should he be able to reach his ceiling, very few people would be surprised if he's a dark horse for the Heisman. Oregon Football lands near the top of 247Sports post-spring top 25 poll

Oregon Football lands near the top of 247Sports post-spring top 25 poll The Oregon Ducks' spring football season has come to a close, leaving a seemingly endless string of days before college football returns, but really, the start of the 2025 season is closer than it seems (to me, at least). Oregon's roster has undergone major changes since the last time the Ducks took the field, but based on recruiting in the past few years and new transfer portal acquisitions, Oregon is positioned to enter 2025 without much dropoff—despite its new look. In some positions, the Ducks may not be what they were; in others, they are poised to improve. On Monday, 247Sports published its "Post-Spring Top 25," compiling rankings by polling six of its writers. Based on that ranked-choice ballot, 247Sports ranked Oregon as the fifth-best team in college football, and the Ducks were unanimously voted as a top-five team at this stage of the game. Around this time last year, most outlets ranked the Ducks at No. 3 or No. 4. Oregon went 13-1 last season and spent most of the year as the AP No. 1 team. A preseason projection of No. 5 in the following season leaves the Ducks with expectations for a strong follow-up to their 2024 campaign as they head into a daunting 2025 schedule. The Penn State Nittany Lions are Ranked No. 2 on the list, just behind the Texas Longhorns at No. 1. The Ducks will play them on Sep. 27th in Happy Valley, Pennsylvania. Ohio State, the team that snapped Oregon's undefeated 2024 season with a slashing in the Rose Bowl, is ranked No. 3. Although the Buckeyes aren't on Oregon's regular-season schedule, there's a strong chance the two teams meet in the Big Ten Championship Game. Illinois and Michigan are ranked adjacent at No. 14 and No. 15, respectively. The four Big Ten teams that received votes but didn't crack 247Sports' top 25 were Iowa, Indiana, USC, and Wisconsin. The Ducks will play all four in 2025, hosting the Hoosiers, Trojans, and Badgers and traveling to Iowa City to play the Hawkeyes. These are high expectations for Oregon in 2025, and they exist in spite of several question marks on the Ducks' roster. Dante Moore is a new quarterback, which is bound to brew uncertainty, and he'll be throwing to a lot of inexperienced guys. The O-line is equally inexperienced (at least in Oregon jerseys), and Oregon's 2025 defense will be unrecognizable to many. But this time last year, many of those positions held the same uncertainty, and while not all of the Ducks' new faces in 2024 were improvements, Oregon's roster changes boomed more than they busted from 2023 to 2024. Now, it's about doing the same in 2025. The Ducks' inexperience could limit them in 2025, but what's to say the new look Ducks can't outshine the old?
