Pete Alonso。

Mets Make Historic Pete Alonso Announcement During Rockies Game
Mets Make Historic Pete Alonso Announcement During Rockies Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After winning each of the first two games of the series, the New York Mets are aiming to complete a series sweep against the Colorado Rockies on Sunday. In addition to being in the midst of a two-game winning streak, New York is 7-2 in their last 10 games and is four games ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies for the NL East lead. Advertisement Less than a year after their NLCS loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Mets look like legitimate contenders once again. A big reason for this is the performance of Pete Alonso, who has an opt-out option after this season. During the Mets' game in Colorado on Sunday, the team made a major announcement regarding Alonso. New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso (20).Sam Navarro-Imagn Images Now in his seventh season with the Mets, Alonso continues to prove his importance to the team. Alonso's success in New York is not just evident this year, however, as he has long been a fantastic player with the team and continues to make history, which he did on Sunday. In the eighth inning of the Mets' game against the Rockies, Alonso hit his 243rd career home run. With this home run, the Florida native has surpassed the Mets' former long-time third baseman David Wright for the second-most home runs in franchise history. Only Darryl Strawberry (252 home runs) has more. Before Sunday, Alonso was batting .296 at the plate with 15 home runs and 57 RBIs, which currently leads the MLB. As the Mets look to continue the season strong, they will keep relying on their long-time first baseman to continue his hot streak at the plate. Pete Alonso closing in on Mets home run record
DENVER (AP) — When he re-signed with the New York Mets last winter, Pete Alonso saw an opportunity to become the team's career leader in home runs and multihomer games. He checked one record off his list Sunday with a pair of two-run shots in a 13-5 victory over the Colorado Rockies — and the burly first baseman is closing in on the other. Advertisement Alonso's 23rd multihomer game broke a tie with Darryl Strawberry for the most in Mets history. The four-time All-Star and two-time Home Run Derby champion now has 243 career homers, passing David Wright (242) for second place on the franchise list — nine behind Strawberry. 'Honestly, it's just one of those things where I can't really be too involved in it,' Alonso said. 'For me, I just want to win. Whatever happens, capitalize on certain pitches in the zone, then I'll get my chance to do so by helping my team win. That's always been the focus.' Alonso hit two of New York's season-high six homers to help complete a 5-2 trip. He has six home runs and two multihomer games in June after going deep just four times in 27 games in May. He went 5 for 14 during the weekend series and has raised his batting average from .288 to .301 over the last eight games. 'There's a lot to like about his bat right now,' manager Carlos Mendoza said. 'Just dominating pitches in the strike zone. That's who he is. We know that the power's always been there, but now we're looking at a really good hitter.' Advertisement Alonso wasn't the only Mets player with a banner day. Juan Soto had three hits and walked three times to reach base in all six plate appearances. He became the first New York player to accomplish that feat since Alonso on Aug. 15, 2019, at Atlanta. 'It's not easy to do at the big league level,' Mendoza said. 'You get six times at the plate and you find a way to get on base. Finally getting results, but I feel the at-bat quality has been there.' Alonso's path toward becoming the Mets' career home run leader began when he set the major league record for rookies with 53 in 2019. He has hit at least 34 homers in each of his five full big league seasons and is on pace for 41 this year. Advertisement 'Pete's been pretty incredible this year. He's been locked in every single at-bat,' said teammate Jeff McNeil, who also hit two home runs Sunday. 'Seems like big situations he's going to do some damage. 'It's fun to watch and I feel like he's putting on a show every time he's at the ballpark.' ___ AP MLB: Michael Kelly, The Associated Press

Mets Makes Big Pete Alonso Announcement on Sunday
Mets Makes Big Pete Alonso Announcement on Sunday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It has been an exciting start to the 2025 season for the New York Mets. On Sunday, the team entered the game riding a two-game winning streak and looking to complete a sweep of the Colorado Rockies. Advertisement This followed a split in a four-game road series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Mets came into Sunday with a 3.5-game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East. Much of New York's success has come from its offense, and Pete Alonso has been at the heart of it. On Sunday, Alonso had another big moment, one that came with a major franchise milestone. The team celebrated the big event: 'Pete Alonso has tied David Wright for 2nd place on the franchise home run list!' The blast, Alonso's 242nd career home run, tied him with Mets legend David Wright for second on the all-time team list. Wright, a fan favorite in Queens, played with the organization from 2004 through 2016 and made a brief return in 2018. Advertisement Alonso now sits just 14 homers behind Darryl Strawberry, who holds the franchise record with 256 blasts. New York Mets first baseman Pete AlonsoTim Vizer-Imagn Images The milestone shot came in the third inning in Denver. It was Alonso's 16th home run of the season and drove in Juan Soto to give the Mets a 4-0 lead. Tyrone Taylor followed with an RBI of his own to push the lead to 5-0. Alonso entered the game batting .296 on the season. As a team, the Mets were ranked 16th in MLB in batting average at .246, but were already in the top 10 for home runs, sitting at 77 before Sunday's game. Following the series in Colorado, the Mets will return home. They have Monday off before beginning a six-game homestand against the Washington Nationals and Tampa Bay Rays starting Tuesday.
