TTD additional EO inspects queue lines as waiting time for Darshan stretches upto 18 hours at Tirumala

TIRUPATI: Tirumala, the sacred abode of Lord Venkateswara, continues to attract a huge turnout of devotees from across the globe, as the waiting time for Darshan once again stretched up to the 18-hour mark on Saturday. While 71,721 pilgrims had Darshan at the Tirumala temple on Friday, close to 90,000 pilgrims were scheduled to have their Darshan on Saturday. With the summer vacations drawing to an end in June, Tirumala remained in the grip of an unprecedented pilgrim rush, especially in the last few days. As serpentine queue lines became the order of the day, pilgrims were seen waiting with their families in the queue lines, which stretched up to Silathoranam. TTD Additional EO Ch Venkaiah Choudary inspected the outside queue lines at Tirumala on Saturday. During his inspections, Venkaiah Choudary interacted with the pilgrims and sought their feedback on the supply of food and other refreshments to them while they were in the queue lines. He personally checked the quality of free food being distributed to the devotees. Later, the additional EO directed the TTD's Annaprasadam department to ensure round-the-clock supply of drinking water, milk, food, etc., by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pruébalo cuanto antes Nuevo Qashqai Híbrido Obtén ofertas Undo to reduce the inconvenience caused to the devotees while they were waiting in the queue lines. The sanitation and health department was instructed to keep the toilets clean 24/7 for the convenience of the pilgrims. Meanwhile, Venkaiah Choudary directed the temple staff to speed up Darshan inside the temple complex so that the waiting time for Darshan comes down at least marginally. He also instructed the vigilance and security department sleuths to keep a strong tab on the pilgrim movements in the queue lines and at other high pilgrim congregation points at Tirumala. TTD Additional EO told reporters that the Devasthanams was following the instructions of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu to facilitate Darshan for more common devotees. Hence, the VIP break Darshan on recommendation letters was cancelled till July 15 to cope with the heavy influx of pilgrims during the summer season. Venkaiah Choudary took strong exception to the manner in which some mischievous elements were resorting to false propaganda against the TTD in a bid to defame the institution. 'TTD will initiate legal proceedings against all those involved in malicious campaigns against the Tirupati trust,' the additional EO warned. 'Yesterday, a devotee raised slogans complaining about the non-supply of food and other refreshments in the queue lines. When we reached out to the devotee, he retracted his statement by claiming that he made false accusations as he was waiting in the queue lines for long. He himself confirmed that food and other refreshments were continuously being distributed to the devotees in the queue lines. But the entire episode was portrayed in a completely different manner to defame TTD, and such actions will not be spared,' Venkaiah Choudary warned.

Nobody had faith in Priyanka Chopra: Director Suneel Darshan on Andaaz casting

When 'Andaaz' was released in 2003, it not only became a box office hit but also marked the Bollywood debut of two beauty queens - Miss Universe Lara Dutta and Miss World Priyanka Chopra. Now, more than two decades later, director Suneel Darshan is shedding light on the unexpected casting decisions that helped launch both actors' an exclusive conversation with India Today, Darshan revealed, "They were not in the film. When the film was planned, it only had Akshay Kumar. He was a part of everything that was happening."advertisementDarshan explained that, initially, he had envisioned established stars for the female leads. 'It was a foregone conclusion that either Karisma Kapoor or Kareena Kapoor would play one of the leads. Then, there was another big female star who wanted to be a part of the film - I won't name her,' he said. 'But I just thought there was no freshness coming out of it as a proposal. I said I need to do something about it,' he continued. 'There was a little bit of difference on certain issues with one of them. Also, I felt they were not complimenting each other in the film. So, I had to find two girls who could compliment each other," he said as he explained his LARA DUTTA LANDED THE ROLESpeaking about how Lara Dutta came on board, Darshan said, 'Destiny played its game. Lara was known. She had done a photo shoot with Akshay Kumar for a Filmfare cover, and I had seen that. I said, 'That was interesting.' So, I called for her. She was in Bangalore, where her parents lived. She came in immediately.'advertisementHe continued, 'The next morning, she was in town and we spoke. She was more than happy to be a part of the cinema because she had actually done videos before that - which I didn't know at the time. Maybe if I had known, I would have had second thoughts. But I thought she was fresh, she was available, and we wanted to make a movie in a quick timeframe.' PRIYANKA CHOPRA - 'THIS IS REKHA COMING BACK'Darshan went on to recount how Priyanka Chopra came into the picture. 'The second lead had to be someone who could match Lara. And out of the blue, again destiny played its game. I was sitting in my chamber, and I got a call. An actor's secretary had come with a girl he wanted to introduce me to.''My system is - when a newcomer comes in, I meet them. That day, it was Prakash Jaju, who was Priyanka Chopra's secretary. She was Miss World,' he Darshan admitted he wasn't particularly impressed. 'My first response was not wow. But later, she groomed herself - evolved is the right word. Fifteen minutes into the conversation, I observed her eyes and said to myself, 'Iski aankhein kya kamaal hai, aur iski awaaz Rekha ki yaad dilati hai.''advertisementHe added, 'That day I was sure - this is Rekha coming back. I had known Rekha ji earlier. But except for me, nobody else involved in the film saw that or had faith. They were more supportive of Lara and her personality. Priyanka was a different ball game. But I was very sure Priyanka Chopra was going to be a top star."'AKSHAY KUMAR WAS SUPPORTIVE'Speaking about Akshay Kumar's response to the casting, Darshan said, 'Akshay's reactions to all his heroines have always been very pleasant and courteous. He's never said, 'No, I don't want to work with someone.' Never. He never told me anything like that, ever.'WERE PRIYANKA AND LARA FRIENDS ON SET?On their equation during the shoot, Darshan remarked, 'They were Punjabi kudis. Whatever the competition was between them, on set it felt like an all-Punjabi crew — Akshay talking Punjabi, Lara talking Punjabi, Priyanka talking Punjabi. It was quite funny, but that's the way it was.'He further stated, 'They were buddies. Lara, Priyanka, Bipasha, Celina - five or six of them had come around the same time. I thought they were basically friends in their own right. The competition may have been there, but it never showed on the sets.'Must Watch

Court grants permission to Darshan for foreign travel

Bengaluru: A Bengaluru trial court on Friday granted permission to Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa to travel abroad for film shooting between July 1 and July 27. The 57th City Civil and Sessions Court had earlier reserved its order on Wednesday. Darshan, currently out on conditional bail, had approached the court under Section 439(1)(b) of the Criminal Procedure Code, seeking approval to travel to Dubai and Europe. The actor is the second accused in the murder case of his fan Renukaswamy, which allegedly involves his partner Pavithra and 15 others. The Special Public Prosecutor strongly opposed the petition, arguing that if Darshan is allowed to leave the country, there is a serious risk he may not return, potentially derailing the trial proceedings. Following his release on bail, Darshan resumed filming for his upcoming movie 'Devil'. Although his movements were initially restricted to Bengaluru, he previously obtained court permission to travel within India. This latest plea sought an extension of those permissions to include international travel and the court allowed it on Friday. Darshan, Pavithra, and others were arrested on June 11, 2024, for allegedly kidnapping and murdering Renukaswamy, a 33-year-old Darshan fan from Chitradurga. The Karnataka police have challenged the bail granted to Darshan and others in the Supreme Court. On January 24, 2025, the apex court issued notices to the actor, Pavithra, and five other co-accused, following a state government appeal. As per the bail conditions, Darshan is required to appear before the court every month. Controversy continues to swirl around the actor, who previously skipped court proceedings citing severe back pain but was later spotted attending a movie premiere alongside actor Chikkanna, a key witness in the case. On April 8, a Bengaluru court criticised Darshan for his absence, warning that no future excuses would be entertained. On May 21, the Karnataka police submitted an additional charge sheet against the actor and other accused, further deepening the legal battle.
