Dasara executive panel delays in presenting expenditure report
Mysuru: Even seven months after the conclusion of the Dasara festival, the Dasara Executive Committee has failed to present the Dasara expenditure details, raising questions among the public. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now According to Mysureans, for the first time, the district administration is taking such a long time to release the details. The Dasara festival was held between Oct 3 and 12, 2024. Following good rainfall in the 2024 monsoon season, state govt announced a grand celebration. The state govt allotted Rs 40 crore for this annual celebration. The district administration also roped in several corporate companies, besides charging the entry fee for Yuva Dasara. Now, even though preparations for the next Dasara have started, the Dasara Executive Committee is yet to share the details. Even though the district minister HC Mahadevappa, who heads the panel, assured the release of the Dasara expenditure details at the earliest, it is still not released. City residents are alleging that this delay has raised several suspicions. "All these years, at least for eye wash, the expenses details were released in a month or two. But this year, the Dasara Executive Committee failed to adhere to the custom. It is strange that the district administration is taking such a long time to release the details," alleges Prabhat S Sulvekar, a city resident. According to BJP MLC AH Vishwanath, it is impossible to force the govt to release the details. "They are saying they will not release it. What can we do?" he questioned. KPCC spokesperson M Lakshmana said he has no idea why the executive committee has not released the expenses details. "I am also demanding the district administration to release the expenses details at the earliest. It will solve all the doubts," he said.

Vizag metro works to start in October, says Andhra Pradesh municipal administration and urban development minister Narayana
1 2 3 Visakhapatnam: The state govt is taking measures to launch the Vizag metro works in October, said municipal administration and urban development minister P Narayana. The minister conducted a review meeting with ministers, MLAs, and officials of north coastal Andhra Pradesh districts here at the VMRDA office on Wednesday. Speaking to the media after the meeting, Narayana said that a detailed project report (DPR) for Vizag metro project has been submitted for a double-decker model. "Just as Hyderabad has a ring road to support its population of over one crore, similar plans are being prepared to construct a semi-ring road in Visakhapatnam. Bhogapuram airport would be completed by next year. To avoid congestion and ensure smooth transport facilities to the airport, 22 roads have been proposed for connectivity. Of these, 15 have already received govt approval, while plans are currently being drawn up for the remaining roads. "Regarding TIDCO housing, between 2014 and 2019, seven lakh houses were proposed, but the previous govt failed to complete even two lakh of them. About Rs 7,000 crore would be required to complete the TIDCO housing project and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu is committed to providing these homes to women beneficiaries, regardless of the cost. The houses would be handed over to beneficiaries by the upcoming Dasara festival," added the minister. Speaking on the AMRUT scheme (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation), the minister noted that in 2021, the Union govt allocated funds to provide drinking water to every household. "However, due to the previous govt's failure to provide the required matching grant, the funds were returned. Chief minister N Chandrababu subsequently negotiated with the Centre to secure the reallocation of these funds. Projects worth Rs 834 crore are now being undertaken under the AMRUT scheme, and surface water supply will be made available in the coming months," said Narayana. During the meeting, the minister also discussed a range of urban development initiatives, including VMRDA infrastructure; Visakhapatnam-Kakinada Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemicals Investment Region Urban Development Authority; revisions to the VMRDA master plan 2041; key issues in extended areas; the status of the KPCPIR UDA master plan 2041; middle income group layouts; proposed new VMRDA layouts; priority roads in the master plan; coastal erosion mitigation projects; comprehensive development of Kailasagiri and Rushikonda; and the implementation of a 4/6/8-lane axis semi-ring road from Bhogapuram to Rambilli through value capture finance. Several MLAs raised concerns during the meeting, urging the minister to ensure the completion of GVMC water pipeline works to avoid drinking water shortages, to install additional water tanks, and to provide more waste collection vehicles and pushcarts in the hilly area due to current sanitation challenges. They also requested that land deeds collected from the poor in 2014 for housing plots be honoured and land allocated accordingly. Furthermore, the MLAs appealed to the minister to support development programmes aimed at delivering basic amenities to the people of north coastal AP. Kakatiya descendent wants Koh-i-Noor diamond back in India
Warangal: The onus is on every citizen to preserve the culture and traditions, the 22nd descendant of the Kakatiya Dynasty, Kamal Chandra Bhanj Deo, said. Speaking to people at the Meet & Greet programme in Hanumakonda on Tuesday, he said Indian culture is a source of inspiration for various philosophical and spiritual ideas. 'India is the first to have a script before the other countries,' Deo said. Deo said he had already urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to name Mamnoor Airport after its revival. 'The Central Government needs to put in efforts to bring back the Koh-i-Noor diamond, the pride possession of the Kakatiya kingdom, from England. I also sought the PM to ensure the priceless diamond is back in India,' Deo said. He urged the people to carry forward the culture, tradition, and heritage and transmit them to future generations. He said that they would celebrate the Dasara festival for 72 days in Bastar. Earlier, Deo offered prayers at Bhadrakali Temple, Shambhu Lingeshwaralayam, and Thousand Pillars Temple. Deo also visited the historian and the secretary of the Team of Research of Culture and Heritage (TORCH), Aravind Arya Pakide. It may be recalled here that the Kakatiya dynasty ended in 1323 after a series of attacks by the Delhi Sultanate. A year after Pratapa Rudra's demise, his brother Annama Devudu established the Bastar kingdom in the Chhattisgarh region of Dantewada as its capital. The 22nd descendant of Kakatiyas, Kamal Chandra Bhanj Deo, lives in Jagdalpur. Deo was invited to Warangal as a chief guest at the Kakatiya Vaibhava Saptaham in 2022.

According to Srirangapatna MLA AB Ramesha Bandisiddegowda and MLC Dinesh Gooligowda, the first Cauvery Aarti will be held on Oct 2. "After the end of the Dasara illumination, it will be held on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays," explained Gooligowda. "The Cauvery Aarti will be held behind the boating yard in the Brindavan Gardens. A seating capacity for about 10,000 people will be made," he said. Ramesha explained that the cultural programmes by local, state, and national level artistes, both before and after the Cauvery Aarti, a laser show, and musical fountains will be the key attractions. "The Cauvery Aarti will be held on all days during Dasara and illumination in the Mysuru city," explained the MLA, who is also the chairman of the CESC Mysuru. According to the authorities, Rs 92 crore will be spent on this new initiative. "Many govt departments will bear the cost. They will also get a share of the revenue. Meanwhile, farmers of the district have decided to oppose the proposal and urged Bengalureans, who are the beneficiaries of the KRS dam water, to raise their voice against this water-polluting initiative. "Definitely, we will not allow this to happen," said Sunanda Jayaram, a farmers' leader. "We have already appealed to the CM in this regard. We don't know why this scheme, which will promote superstitious beliefs among the people, is proposed," she said. "The state govt is coming out with a number of projects centering on the KRS dam, which raises suspicion. We fear people with vested interests are trying to encroach on public properties," she said. "KRS dam water is a lifeline for crores of people. Cauvery Aarti and other schemes and projects affect the water quality. The residents of Bengaluru must raise their voice," she said.
