British Soap Awards in chaos as bomb scare sparks emergency evacuation and stars flee London's Hackney Empire
THE British Soap Awards descended into chaos last night as a bomb threat sparked an emergency evacuation at London's Hackney Empire. The glitzy bash, hosted by Jane McDonald, Sir David Jason, and Larry Lamb, was thrown into turmoil when revellers were ordered to leave the venue just before 1am. 2 2 A source told The Mirror: 'It was total panic. Security rushed around and told everyone to get out immediately. At first, they didn't say why — but soon we were told there was a bomb threat. Everyone was left standing outside, confused and shocked.' Video footage shared online shows soap royalty including EastEnders' Tameka Empson and Hollyoaks hunk Emmett J Scanlan milling about on the street as crowds were ushered out of the iconic venue. Some stars were seen steaming outside, clearly annoyed as security refused to let them back in. 'It was surreal. One minute we were celebrating, the next we were out on the pavement wondering what was going on,' the source added. Attendees eventually drifted home as the building remained off-limits. The Sun has contacted ITV and the Met police for comment.

EastEnders dominates British Soap Awards with eight prizes
EastEnders dominated the British Soap Awards with eight prizes including Best British Soap. The ceremony, hosted at Hackney Empire in London by singer Jane McDonald, saw stars from the biggest soaps in the country go head to head for best scenes, performances and storylines. The BBC show took home the highly anticipated award for best British soap with the trophy presented by Only Fools and Horses actor David Jason. Steve McFadden, who plays Phil Mitchell, took home the award for Best Dramatic Performance and EastEnders also claimed the award for Best Single Episode for Phil's Psychosis which saw him hallucinate scenes from the Mitchell family home in 1985. EastEnders won Scene Of The Year for Angie Watts' shock return as a ghost during its 40th anniversary episode. Navin Chowdhry took home the Villain of the Year award for his portrayal of Nish Panesar, the calculating manipulative husband to Suki Panesar, played by Balvinder Sopal, who was killed by his son after being pushed off a balcony. EasEnders' Patsy Palmer, who plays Bianca Jackson, took home Best Comedy performance while Lacey Turner claimed Best Leading Performer for her portrayal of Stacey Slater. Best On-Screen Partnership was won by Rudolph Walker, who plays Patrick Trueman and Angela Wynter, who plays his ex-wife Yolande Trueman. Hollyoaks took home three awards including Best Newcomer for Isabelle Smith who plays Frankie Osborne, the daughter of Suzanne Ashworth and Darren Osborne and twin sister of JJ Osborne. The Channel 4 soap won Best Storyline for raising the issue of sibling sexual abuse and the Osbornes were named Best Family. ITV's Emmerdale won Best Young Performer for 16-year old Amelia Flanagan who plays April Windsor, the half-sister of Leo Goskirk and daughter of police officer Donna Windsor and chef Marlon Dingle. The Tony Warren Award went to Emmerdale' s Mike Plant. Coronation Street t ook home only one prize with an outstanding achievement award for David Neilson, cafe owner Roy Cropper, who joined the show nearly three decades ago. The award was presented by Julie Hesmondhalgh who played Roy's late wife Hayley Cropper. Among the stars on the red carpet on Saturday evening were Hollyoaks actress Jorgi Porter and Coronation Street's Tina O'Brien who had chosen the the same dress. The awards will air at 8pm on Thursday 5 June on Virgin Media One and ITV1.

British Soap Awards 'bomb threat' - stars forced to flee swanky ceremony
The British Soap Awards came to a dramatic end last night after stars were asked to evacuate the building over an alleged bomb threat. The event was held at London's Hackney Empire with TV presenter Jane McDonald, actor Sir David Jason and Gavin and Stacey's Larry Lamb on hosting duty. However, a source has exclusive told The Mirror that attendees were suddenly asked to leave the venue shortly before 1am after the event had reportedly received a bomb threat. "We all got evacuated just before 1am. No reason was given at first and security came round and told us we had to leave immediately," our source said. "As we all waited in the street outside, security told us there had been a bomb threat. We weren't allowed back in the building so people started making their way home." In a video shared with The Mirror, some of TV's biggest soap stars can be seen waiting outside the venue as more evacuate - with the likes of EastEnders' Tameka Empson and former Hollyoaks star Emmett J Scanlan among them. The Mirror has contacted ITV and the Metropolitan Police for comment.
