Madras HC temporarily restrains Savukku Shankar from making defamatory remarks against ADGP Davidson Devasirvatham
CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has issued a gag order to YouTuber 'Savukku' Shankar, temporarily restraining him from making defamatory statements against senior police officer S Davidson Devasirvatham, the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) – Law and Order, over the Sivaganga custodial death. Justice P Kumaresh Babu, on Friday, passed interim orders on the civil suit and applications filed by the police officer. 'A reading of the statements made against the applicant (Davidson Devasirvatham) would prima facie conclude that they have been making statements in derogatory and defamatory manner, which would affect his reputation as he is holding high office,' the judge said. He added that Article 19(2) of the Constitution carves out a restriction to Article 19(1)(a) – freedom of speech and expression – providing protection to the citizen from being defamed. The interim injunction will be in force for four weeks. The judge also ordered notice to Savukku Shankar, directing him to file a reply to the petition within four weeks, and accordingly adjourned the case. Davidson Devasirvatham moved the application praying for an order of interim injunction restraining the YouTuber, his agents, followers or representatives from publishing, broadcasting, uploading or circulating, in any manner whatsoever, in print, digital or audio-visual form, any contents containing allegedly defamatory allegations, insinuations or imputations against him with respect to the custodial death of Ajith Kumar.

Women police personnel are an integral part of policing in T.N.: police department
Following the furore caused by Additional Director-General of Police-Law and Order (ADGP-L&O) Davidson Devasirvatham's advisory to avoid posting female police officers on important security duty, the Office of Director-General of Police (DGP) on Saturday issued a clarification stating that women police personnel were an integral part of policing in Tamil Nadu. Women activists, educationists, lawyers, academicians, and writers had issued a statement expressing shock and condemnation over the advisory. They said it was widely reported in the media and seemed to have been issued in the backdrop of the custodial death of Ajith Kumar in Sivaganga. 'The Constitution of India clearly states that men and women are equal before law. Women cannot be discriminated against and denied opportunities or assignments, merely on the basis of their sex. Excluding women from positions of responsibility amounts to discrimination and is strongly condemnable,' they said, while urging Mr. Davidson to retract his statement. The Office of DGP, in its clarification, said during the recent video conference with officers from districts and cities on June 30, the ADGP-L&O had advised them against deploying a lot of women police personnel for bandobust duties. The instruction was made in view of the need for women police personnel in the investigation and prosecution of cases under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act and crimes against women and children, it said. As per law, it is mandatory to file the final reports in POCSO cases within 60 days, and the pendency in such cases requires immediate attention. The primary objective was to ensure that women police personnel, who play an indispensable role in investigating crimes against women and children, were not posted elsewhere, the statemen said. It also clarified that women police personnel were an integral part of policing in Tamil Nadu. Women police personnel are deployed for bandobust duties, and they will continue to be used, wherever necessary. The police department said it was to be understood that as per law, certain tasks in policing should be carried out by women police personnel only, such as arresting women, enquiring and recording the statements of women accused or witnesses or children, and managing women in crowds during bandobust duty.

Bomb threat at Jaipur's ESIC Hospital, email in Ajmal Kasab's name alleges fake passport racket
Jaipur: A bomb threat sent via email to Jaipur's ESIC Hospital sparked a major security scare on Thursday, prompting a swift and coordinated response from multiple agencies. The email, signed in the name of 26/11 terrorist Ajmal Kasab, went beyond the threat of violence, alleging a broader conspiracy involving fake passports issued to former LTTE members. The hospital administration immediately alerted authorities after receiving the mail. Soon, teams from the local police, fire department, bomb disposal squad, civil defence, and cyber cell reached the hospital and conducted a thorough search. No suspicious items were found, and the operation was later called off. What raised alarm was the content of the email. It accused Tamil Nadu IPS officer Davidson Devasirvatham of facilitating the issuance of fake passports to ex-LTTE operatives through a travel agency allegedly run by his wife. The email further claimed that these individuals had been recruited by Pakistan and were travelling in a "bio-bubble" car equipped with mobile phones and fuses to trigger chemical attacks. It also warned that if their plan appeared to fail, the suspects might detonate a nerve gas IED inside the hospital. The email urged authorities to immediately inform the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and investigate the officer's role. It also suggested that the fake passports could be verified from the Intelligence Department's Madurai office. Claiming authenticity, the sender stated that they were personally involved in the conspiracy, insisting it was not a hoax. This incident adds to a string of recent hoax threats in Jaipur. On May 8, 12, and 13, similar bomb threats targeted the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, with one email also demanding justice for a rape victim. A woman from Ahmedabad was later arrested in connection with those threats, having allegedly sent four to five such emails. Another threat was reported on May 9, when the Jaipur Metro received an email referencing the so-called 'Operation Sindoor.' No explosives were found in that case either. The latest threat email has been forwarded to the cyber cell for further investigation, particularly due to its possible links with previous hoax messages and the grave accusations made against a serving IPS officer.
