BBC iPlayer has just added Implosion: The Titanic Sub Disaster, which is also being shown today [Tuesday, May 27] on BBC Two at 9 pm. Two years ago, the world watched in horror as a frantic search and rescue mission was launched for the Titan submersible, which had been diving 13,000 feet beneath the Atlantic Ocean as part of a tourist expedition to explore the wreckage of the Titanic. On board were 19-year-old Strathclyde University student Suleman Dawood and his father, Shahzada, 48. Their fellow crew members were businessman Hamish Harding, expert submariner Paul-Henri Nargeolet, and the inventor of Titan, Stockton Rush. Just an hour and 33 minutes into the voyage, however, the submersible lost contact with its surface ship, the Polar Prince. Four frenetic days unfolded in an attempt to locate it, until the US Coast Guard confirmed the five crew had died in a catastrophic implosion. Now, BBC iPlayer's documentary Implosion: The Titanic Sub Disaster hears from Christine Dawood, who was waiting on board the Polar Prince when she learned the fate of her husband and son. "The moment we knew they'd found debris and there were no survivors, my daughter Alina and I went on deck," says Dawood, from Surrey. "Until that moment we'd had hope. We took some cushions with us and just sat there looking out at the ocean. We were both crying." With unprecedented access to the Marine Board Investigation, as well as previously unseen footage from Titan's previous dives, the documentary reveals how the submersible had equipment issues leading up to the disaster. Not only that, but Stockton Rush, the founder and CEO of OceanGate, which built, owned and operated Titan, had openly boasted about breaking rules. So could the implosion have been prevented? "In hindsight, would I have wanted them not to go? Absolutely, but I can't really say I'd have denied them an opportunity like that," says Dawood. "Sometimes I still don't believe it. The possibility of Titan imploding never crossed our minds. "To lose a husband is terrible, but no parent should have to grieve for their child. It's unnatural. All of a sudden your purpose, your identity, is ripped away from you." Implosion: The Titanic Sub Disaster is on BBC iPlayer now.

Filmmaker, the showman of Bollywood, Raj Kapoor, redefined cinema through his path-breaking movies. He launched several actors and the list of heroines is bigger as they all have set the screen on fire. One of those actresses is Yasmeen Joseph Thakur. You must be wondering who she is. At the age of 16, Raj Kapoor discovered her and gave her the screen name Mandakini. Her first movie was Ram Teri Ganga Maili in 1985. She was paired opposite Rajiv Kapoor. For this movie, Mandakini also got Best Actress award. The scenes in the movie went viral as she was seen partially nude in two sequences. Mandakini linked with Dawood Ibrahim Apart from her professional life, she was also in the headlines for her personal life. There were reports that suggested the veteran actress was linked with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. They were romantically involved, said the source. Another report also claimed that Dawood and Mandakini were married, and they had a kid. Dawood reportedly killed a filmmaker who was not casting Mandakini as a lead actress in his film. Amid all this, the 1993 Bomb blast took place and Dawood was the key suspect in the case. He left Mumbai and shifted to Dubai. However, the actress went underground after the incident took place, and later she was given a clean chit in this case. Mandakini strongly denied the rumours of any affair with him. She clearly stated in an interview, 'I don't want people to connect me with Dawood any more or even think of that unfortunate episode. That's in the past now. I feel very bad that the media still wants to cash in on my name and make it as controversial as possible… I cleared my stand at that point of time. After some time, you get irritated. If you want to clean your image, it does not mean you have to give a statement every six months'. Mandakini married a monk After a few years, Mandakini followed a spiritual path and became a follower of Dalai Lama. After embracing Buddhism, she married former Buddhist monk, Dr. Kagyur T. Rinpoche Thakur. The couple have a son named Rabbil and a daughter Rabze Innaya. She became a yoga instructor and started running classes in Tibetan yoga.

Not Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra or Rajesh Khanna, the Underworld don was crazy about THIS actor, who beat Vinod Khanna in 1989, his name was... Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor, who portrayed wide range of roles, captivated audiences with his charm and personality. With a career spanning over 50 years, he became a huge name, not just in India but worldwide as well. In 1989, he appeared alongside one of India's biggest stars, Vinod Khanna, in the film Chandni, where he held his own and gave Khanna stiff competition. Did you know Rishi Kapoor was favourite of world's most wanted criminal, Dawood Ibrahim, too? He even gave the actor his phone number and invited him for tea. Dawood was highly impressed with Rishi Kapoor's performance in the 2013 film D-Day, which was picturised on him. After watching his performance, he then invited him over for a warm get-together. In his autobiography, Khullam Khulla, the late actor revealed about his two meetups with Dawood Ibrahim. The first happened in 1988, when he was in Dubai for 'Asha Bhosle-RD Burman night' and was spotted by Dawood's man at the airport. The guy than offered him his phone, saying, 'Dawood saab baat karenge (Dawood saab would like to speak to you).' He then invited Rishi Kapoor to his house. He offered him tea and biscuits because he didn't drink or serve alcohol. Dawood also discussed with him about the murder that he planned in the Mumbai court, an incident which later was shown in Sunny Deol's Arjun. Rishi Kapoor revealed in his autobiography that before leaving his house, Dawood told him, 'If you need anything at all, any money, anything, just feel free to ask me.' However, the actor refused. The second time Rishi met Dawood was in Dubai at a store. He was then with his wife Neetu Kapoor, and the underworld don insisted on buy something for the superstar, but he declined the offer. Dawood also gave him his phone number to Rishi, but the actor couldn't give him his number back as there were no mobile phones in India at the time. Rishi mentioned in his autobiography that, 'He (Dawood) was always extremely nice to me and showed me a lot of warmth, Everything changed soon after. I don't know what made him go after my country the way he did. I have had no interaction with him at all after that chance meeting at the shoe shop.'

Waqf Amendment Act a step towards protecting assets of Muslim bodies, says TMML
'The Waqf Amendment Act, 2025, is a step towards protecting the Waqf properties from rich and powerful Muslims who have benefited from the properties for years,' Tamil Maanila Muslim League (TMML) president S. Sheikh Dawood said on Monday. Speaking to the media here, he said the survey of the Waqf properties should be expedited and the report should be uploaded on the website to ensure transparency. Accusing All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader and MP Asaduddin Owaisi of 'enjoying Waqf properties' worth ₹6,000 crore, Mr. Sheikh Dawood said several leaders and wealthy Muslims in Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, West Bengal, and Karnataka were enjoying the benefits of Waqf properties without accountability. 'According to the Waqf properties data mentioned in the Sachar Committee's report, the board had properties worth ₹1.2 lakh crore. This means the revenue should have been at least ₹12,000 crore,' he said. And, going by the current value of these properties, the revenue should have been at least ₹90,000 crore, he said. 'Where does the money go? The properties that should benefit the poor Muslims are falling into the hands of rich and powerful Muslims,' he alleged. Asked why the TMML did not oppose the BJP government's decision to stop the scholarship scheme for Muslim students, Mr. Sheikh Dawood replied that if all the Waqf properties, enjoyed by a few people, were recovered, the educational expenses of all Muslim students could be met. The TMML had launched a movement named 'Waqf for the Ummah' to take the benefits of the amendment to all people of the State, he said.
