6 baby opossums found during search warrant in Dayton
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Officers from the Dayton Police Department reportedly discovered some marsupials while assisting a neighboring agency in serving a search warrant. Dayton Police & Fire posted to social media showing six baby opossums allegedly found. Police said the Ohio Department of Natural Resources' Division of Wildlife will take custody of the animals. ODNR officials remind all Ohioans that its illegal to own animals from the wild. Any injured, orphaned or abandoned animals should be taken to a permitted wildlife rehabilitator. Suspected drunk driver arrested after hitting two cars, house in Dayton
A suspected drunk driver hit two parked cars and a house in Dayton early Saturday morning, according to a Dayton Police Department crash report. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] The crash occurred in the 3000 block of Arlene Avenue around 2:25 a.m. TRENDING STORIES: 1 hospitalized after drive-by shooting in Dayton Former Bengals player arrested for assault of an officer, public intoxication Second inmate who escaped minimum security facility in Ohio arrested; 2 remain on the run A preliminary investigation found that a 35-year-old man was driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck west on Arlene Avenue when he lost control and hit two parked cars and a house. The driver was identified in the report as Laquan Riley of Dayton. No one was injured inside the house. It is unclear how fast Riley was driving at the time of the crash. Medics took Riley to Miami Valley Hospital with suspected minor injuries, according to the report. Dayton police officers note in the report that they believe Riley was driving under the influence of alcohol. An OVI test was given, but the results are currently unknown, according to the report. At the time of writing, Montgomery County Jail records show that Riley is in custody on preliminary charges of OVI, carrying a concealed weapon, using weapons while intoxicated, and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle. Suspect arrested after reportedly stealing car with baby inside
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A man was arrested after reportedly stealing a vehicle with a child inside Thursday afternoon. Several Dayton Police Department cruisers were spotted in the area of Woodman Drive and Linden Avenue in the afternoon of June 5. Police on scene told 2 NEWS they apprehended a suspect in an alleged kidnapping incident. Haitian community in Springfield facing uncertain future Police say the initial call was for an assault on E. Third Street earlier this afternoon. There, a suspect reportedly assaulted the child's mother before taking the keys and vehicle with the child still in the backseat. The suspect fled the scene, with police eventually tracking the stolen vehicle to the Woodman Drive and Linden Avenue intersection. Child critically injured in suspected OVI crash Tuesday night
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A 5-year-old child is hospitalized in critical condition after a suspected OVI crash at the intersection of South Main and East Stewart streets. According to the Dayton Police Department, crews were dispatched to an injury crash around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 3. Police say their initial investigation found that a Ford F-150 Tremor was heading south on Main Street. Officials said the driver ran a red light and then crashed into the rear driver's side of a Honda Odyssey heading east on Stewart Street. Officials said the F-150 then crashed into a Toyota RAV4, which was approaching the stoplight north on Main Street. Man injured in shooting at DeSoto Bass apartments on Monday The Odyssey had two occupants besides the driver: a 9-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl. All were taken by medics to nearby hospitals. As of Wednesday, the girl is currently in critical condition. The other two people have non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the F-150 was the only person in the vehicle and wasn't taken to a hospital. None of the three people in the RAV4 were hospitalized. Officials suspect the cause of the crash is OVI. Detectives from the Dayton Police Department's Traffic Services Unit are actively investigating the crash. 2 NEWS will update this article when more information is available.
