Kings Bracing for Trade After Russell Westbrook Report

Kings Bracing for Trade After Russell Westbrook Report originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Sacramento Kings put together another disappointing campaign last season, missing the playoffs for the second consecutive year after ending their postseason drought in 2023. One could argue that the team's lackluster performance was largely hinged on De'Aaron Fox's midseason trade which left the Kings without a true point guard. Sacramento began the offseason attempting to fix that gap by signing Dennis Schroder in free agency. It has also been reported all summer that the Kings have been exploring a move for former MVP Russell Westbrook, who declined his player option to become a free agent this offseason. NBA insider Carmichael Dave corroborated these reports on Sunday, noting that there's an '80-20' chance that Westbrook signs with Sacramento, and confirmed 'strong mutual interest' between both parties. However, to achieve this, the Kings would have to make room for Westbrook and it appears they are preparing to do so. Per Matt George of ABC10, the front office is weighing deals involving either Malik Monk or second-year guard Devin Carter in order to accommodate the veteran star on the roster. 'On the Kings/Russell Westbrook front: Both parties have been talking and have had mutual interest since free agency began. That's been well known,' George wrote. 'From what I gather, the Kings are still looking to move a player like Devin Carter or Malik Monk before they can bring Westbrook in. The Kings have a log jam at the guard position and very little financial flexibility to work with.' Russell Westbrook's Fit on the Sacramento Kings Westbrook would bring experience and playmaking to a Kings squad in need of both. The nine-time All-Star and 2017 NBA MVP has built a Hall of Fame résumé, becoming the league's all-time leader in triple-doubles. While no longer the explosive force of his prime, he averaged 13.3 points, 6.1 assists, and 4.9 rebounds last season with the Denver Nuggets, showing he still has value as a contributor. If a deal goes through, Sacramento could look to pair Westbrook with Schroder, while building around a core potentially featuring Domantas Sabonis, Zach LaVine, and DeMar DeRozan. Sacramento Kings Could Form A Powerful Backcourt With Russell Westbrook And Zach LaVine

Sacramento Kings Could Form A Powerful Backcourt With Russell Westbrook And Zach LaVine originally appeared on Fadeaway World. The NBA offseason has only just begun, and the Sacramento Kings have some big improvement plans. In the aftermath of some major trades, the Kings are in need of a point guard, and recent reports from within the organization claim that they could look to Russell Westbrook to fill the void. 'Fellow free agents Tyus Jones and Russell Westbrook are also known to be options that the Kings are considering," wrote Sam Amick of The Athletic. "Free agency formally begins at 6 p.m. Eastern on Monday. Beyond the point guard vacancy, though, league sources say the Kings are open for business when it comes to discussing the various possibilities with their roster.' The Kings are still trying to find their way after a series of disappointing seasons. Despite their initial success with De'Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis, they failed to make a long playoff run, and the team decided to wipe the slate clean by trading Fox and parting ways with their longtime coach, Mike Brown. Going into next season, the Kings are hoping to be competitive with Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, and Domantas Sabonis, but they'll need a proper point guard to keep up with the steep competition. In a somewhat weak free agency, options are limited for the Kings, but Russell Westbrook is not only an affordable option, but he has the potential to raise their ceiling. The 9x All-Star is a future Hall of Famer with career averages of 21.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 8.0 assists per game on 443.9% shooting. As a 2x scoring leader, 9x All-NBA player, and former MVP, Westbrook has proven himself as one of the elite superstars, but his decline over the years has been swift. Ever since leaving the Thunder in 2019, Westbrook has been on a downward spiral that includes failed stints with the Rockets, Wizards, Lakers, and Clippers. In his latest stop, the Nuggets, the entire front office split over his role in Michael Malone's rotation. Now, Russ is set to decline his $3.5 million player option and join the 2025 free agency class at 36 years old. At this stage of his career, Westbrook's future is still uncertain, but the Kings believe he can help them win games next season. After averaging 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game in the 2024-25 campaign, Russ has something left in the tank, and his impact on the floor is still felt after 17 years in the NBA. While he may not be what he once was, Westbrook's skills as a scorer, ball handler, and playmaker should make him a fine addition to the Kings. At the very least, he'll make them relevant in the West in a lineup with Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, Keegan Murray, and Domantas Sabonis. After finishing ninth in the standings this past season, Sacramento needs a spark, and Westbrook can bring that and more with his status as a leader, veteran, and ultimate competitor. While he's expected to have multiple suitors this summer, Westbrook will have direct control over this next landing spot, and there's a lot to be gained from joining the Kings, where he could potentially start on a competitive story was originally reported by Fadeaway World on Jun 26, 2025, where it first appeared.

Insider Shares 3 Key Spurs Storylines To Monitor Next Season

Insider Shares 3 Key Spurs Storylines To Monitor Next Season originally appeared on Fadeaway World. The San Antonio Spurs boast a lot of talent on their squad heading into the 2025-26 season. Amid the growing hype surrounding their young roster, NBA insider Zach Lowe outlined three expectations for the team on a recent episode of "The Zach Lowe Show." He said: "If I'm a Spurs optimist for next season only, you look at next season in a vacuum...I'm banking on three things. No. 1, Wembanyama is absolutely incredible. He's a top 10 player already. I don't even know how fast his development could happen and where he will rank after next season, if he stays healthy. It's frightening." "No. 2, I think Fox is going to be hungry. I think he wanted to go to San Antonio. I expect him to get a deal done this summer, so he'll feel secure and wanted. No mystery, no nothing." Lowe pointed out that De'Aaron Fox was probably aware of the criticism of him not being effective after joining San Antonio. This could fuel a resurgent performance from him next season. "No. 3, I think they're going to be a hard-playing, deep team, every single game, which has a lot of value in the regular season over 82 games. Youth and effort can go a long way if you have enough talent." Beyond those three factors, Lowe also highlighted the Spurs' vast draft capital. With approximately 23 picks in hand, San Antonio has a very expansive collection of picks, putting them in a comfortable spot for the future. There is a lot to look forward to with this Spurs team. Served by a star in Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs have enough potential on their roster to become a title-contender at some point in the future. Despite acquiring Fox last season, the Spurs saw little of his pairing with Wembanyama, who was sidelined with a blood clot diagnosis, effectively sidelining him for the season. While this raised concerns for his long-term availability, the Spurs star has recovered and is expected to be back in action soon. This is tremendous news for San Antonio, especially considering the faith the 21-year-old has shown in the franchise and its young core. Aside from Wembanyama, the Spurs have seen some tremendous additions to their team this year. With the No. 2 overall pick, San Antonio selected a talented combo guard in Dylan Harper, who has been showing out in the Summer League. Along with Harper, the Spurs also added a defensive savant in Carter Bryant with the No. 14 overall pick. Bryant's discipline and work ethic will likely earn him a spot in the regular rotation. With incredible upside, his development could also create different opportunities for the Spurs' approach to roster building. The Spurs' long-term outlook is undeniably exciting. While they may certainly be dominant in the future, next season will bring its own challenges, as a fiercely competitive Western Conference accelerates the learning curve for San Antonio's promising young story was originally reported by Fadeaway World on Jul 20, 2025, where it first appeared.

Sacramento was able to find their new stating point guard in free agency as they acquired Dennis Schroder from the Detroit Pistons via a sign-and-trade deal. Advertisement Because of this, the Kings could still look to add another point guard this offseason either through free agency or via trade and they have recently emerged as a potential landing spot for a former New York Knicks point guard. According to Kings play-by-play announcer Kyle Draper, Cameron Payne has interest in joining Sacramento in free agency this offseason. 'His representatives are trying to angle him to Sac,' Draper said about Payne. Payne would be a solid addition to the Kings' bench, especially after he played a large role off the bench for the Knicks last season. Last season, the 30-year-old guard averaged 6.9 points, 1.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game while shooting 40.1% from the field and 36.3% from three in 72 games in New York. Advertisement Payne is a solid scorer and playmaker who would be able to bring a spark off the bench for the Kings, which they desperately need at the point guard position entering next season.
