Ariana Grande, Josh Gad to Lead "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" Animated Movie
Yara Sameh Ariana Grande and Josh Gad will lend their voices to the film adaptation of 'Oh, The Places You'll Go.' Based on the Dr. Seuss classic, the animated musical will be directed by 'Wicked' filmmaker Jon M. Chu and Jill Culton. Warner Bros. will release the movie on March 17, 2028. Plot details haven't been revealed, so it's unclear how the film will take inspiration from the beloved picture book. 'Oh, The Places You'll Go!' revolves around a young adventurer navigating the ups and downs of life and offers inspirational messages to readers like, 'You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.' With those platitudes, the book has become a popular gift for graduates or anyone at an inflection point. Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the duo behind 'Dear Evan Hansen' and 'The Greatest Showman,' are writing original songs for the big-screen adaptation. Additional cast members — likely many of whom can also carry a tune — will be announced at a later date. This project reunites Chu with Grande, the star of 'Wicked: Part One.' She'll reprise her role as Glinda the Good, alongside Cynthia Erivo's Elphaba, in 'Wicked: For Good' on November 21. The Grammy winner and Oscar nominee was also recently cast in 'Meet the Parents 4' opposite Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro. Gad is best known for voicing Olaf in the 'Frozen' franchise and originating the role of Elder Cunningham in Broadway's enduring hit 'The Book of Mormon.' He also played LeFou in Disney's live-action 'Beauty and the Beast' remake. Chu has previously teamed with Warner Bros. on 'Crazy Rich Asians' and 'In the Heights.' The director has attached his name to dozens of film projects at the moment, including a 'Hot Wheels' live-action adventure, a Play Doh animated feature, a Britney Spears biopic and another stage-to-screen musical in 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.' read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Arts & Culture Hawass Foundation Launches 1st Course to Teach Ancient Egyptian Language Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream

Ariana Grande and Josh Gad to star in Jon M. Chu's ‘Oh, the Places You'll Go!'
'You can steer yourself in any direction you choose,' Dr. Seuss wrote in his beloved 1990 picture book 'Oh, the Places You'll Go!' It seems pop star Ariana Grande has taken the advice to heart, landing yet another movie role and her second collaboration with 'Wicked' director Jon M. Chu. Grande is set to star alongside Josh Gad in the animated adaptation of 'Oh, the Places You'll Go!,' Warner Bros. announced Tuesday. Expected in March 2028, the movie will be directed by Chu and include original music from EGOT-winning duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, known for 'Dear Evan Hansen,' 'La La Land' and 'The Greatest Showman.' Grande and Gad confirmed the news on their Instagram pages this morning with a picture of them in a recording studio holding up their scripts, which feature the same design as the book cover. 'I love this book, I love this script, I love the beautiful world of @drseuss, I love this incredible group of creative human beings (@joshgad what a brilliant joy you are),' Grande wrote on her story. 'I am so thrilled to be a part of this one.' 'Never been more excited to go places,' Gad said. 'We are dreaming up something very very special for you.' Grande, who released the deluxe edition of her album 'Eternal Sunshine' earlier this year, will appear in the second installment of 'Wicked,' in theaters Nov. 21. Additionally, the Grammy winner will join Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller for the fourth 'Meet the Parents' movie, expected November 2026. Gad, known for 'Frozen' and 'The Book of Mormon,' just joined the cast of 'Jesus Christ Superstar' at the Hollywood Bowl, where he'll appear alongside Grande's 'Wicked' co-star Cynthia Erivo Aug. 1 to 3. The Broadway star has several other films lined up as well, including the 'Spaceballs' sequel, 'Adulthood' and 'Frozen 3.'

Dear Evan Hansen, Playhouse, Edinburgh ★★★★ Oliver in a Twist, Oran Mor, Glasgow ★★★★ The first week of July, a blast of summer heat, and two big, vibrant shows that left me just slightly confused about what exactly was going on. After a long UK tour, the smash-hit musical Dear Evan Hansen arrived at the Playhouse in Edinburgh, playing to a packed audience including many young people, and featuring two young Scottish stars – Ryan Kopel and Lauren Conroy – in the leading roles of painfully shy teenager Evan Hansen, and Zoe Murphy, the girl he worships. The theatrically thrilling first-half finale delivers a stunning visual image of Evan Hansen's new viral fame First staged in the United States in 2015, Dear Evan Hansen is an upmarket high school musical – by Steven Levenson, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul – about how, through a misunderstanding, the troubled Evan suddenly finds fame and popularity at school and on social media as the 'best friend' of Connor Murphy, Zoe's brother, who has taken his own life. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Suddenly in demand, and able to bring comfort to Connor's family, Evan cannot resist playing up to his new role, fabricating ever more elaborate narratives about the non-existent friendship; but meantime, his hard-working single mother Heidi (an excellent Alice Fearn) feels she is losing him to the well-to-do Murphies, while his 'family friend' Jared constantly reminds him that his new life is based on lies. This is no mean story, in other words; an operatic tale of fate, yearning, class and deception in a high school context, and a story so lush in emotion and narrative layers that it takes almost three hours to tell, including a theatrically thrilling first-half finale that delivers a stunning visual image of Evan's new viral fame. What is slightly strange about the show is the music itself, which veers between predictable if emotive 21st century anthems that sound as if they might have been written by a well-trained bot, and long rambling arias in which the music trails along in the wake of what sound like over-written prose monologues. Oliver (Elena Redmond) gets in a tangle with Darren Brownlie's Phil Pikes as Fraser Boyle (Nancy. left) and David McKnight look on There's no question, though, that the leading players – including understudy Will Forgrave, stepping up boldly to the role of Connor – deliver fine dramatic and musical performances. And from the audience, the show attracts huge cheers after every song, and a final standing ovation; welcoming a story which clearly speaks with unusual power to the mental health crises of young people now, and is becoming ever more popular, as its internet fame spreads. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad At Oran Mor, meanwhile, Andy McGregor's lunchtime summer panto Oliver In A Twist offers up a memorably bold and cheeky satirical send-up of Lionel Bart's musical Oliver!. In this version – uproariously delivered in 60 minutes by a gifted cast of five – Dame Nancy and her son Jammy Dodger (Fraser Boyle and Dani Heron, both in fine form) have recently arrived in London from Glasgow, and are trying, with new Cockney accents, to make their way in their big city; this despite evil landlord Phil Pikes (Darren Brownlie, camping it up outrageously), who is not only charging them rent, but an eye-watering 'transaction fee'. Enter Elena Redmond's posh Oliver, a workhouse escapee who soon joins Dodger's gang; and via a brilliant theme-song and dance entitled Any Old Jam (as in, we can get out of any old jam), the story unfolds in at almost literally breakneck speed, with the Dodger coming a cropper when a wall falls on him in the final scene. There is a truly hard and cynical edge to all of this, as all the characters make it crystal clear how little value they place on human life; and the usually genial spirit of panto often goes missing, in a London whose streets are 'paved with shite'. If the mood is a shade baffling, though, there's always the closing song to cheer us up; and the sheer wit and energy of the writing and performances is impossible to fault, from start to finish.

Dear Evan Hansen, a musical with a message
The multi-award-winning stage musical Dear Evan Hansen, which plays the Edinburgh Playhouse this week demonstrates the struggles of mental illness. Learn More Sorry, there seem to be some issues. Please try again later. Submitting... With music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul and book by Steven Levenson, the premiere was at the Arena Stage Washington DC in June 2016 before a short off-Broadway run a year later then Music Box Theatre Broadway in December 2016 running until September 2022 when it closed. Nominated for nine Tony Awards it won six prompting a film version directed by Stephen Chbosky which had poor returns when it opened in September though, the stage musical won two Olivier Awards and a Grammy for Best Musical theatre Album. The West End production opened at the Noel Coward Theatre in November 2019, closed for over a year due to Covid in 2020 and closed for good in October 2022. This touring production opened at the home of the co-producers Nottingham Playhouse in September 2024 and concludes in Edinburgh this week. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The title refers to the start of a letter, but one you would write to yourself as part of your therapy to get a better understanding of yourself. Evan is a loner, a nervous nerd with no friends really, but we see how that all changes. Kirriemuir born Ryan Kopel plays Evan and is the central character getting the first big song Waving Through A Window, not only did he perform wellbut he knocked it out of the park. At college we met Connor (played by understudy Will Forgrave). He is a bully, a drug user and doesn't get along with his sister Zoe or his parents played by Richard Hurst and Helen Anker. Lauren Conroy from Fife as Zoe It is a very modern script, ahead of its time with texts, social media and crowd funding while tackling issues of metal health, youth relationships and drug misuse, a challenge managed effectively by director Adam Penford. We see how a lie could expand like a snowball down a hill and all with great songs like (what has become a strapline and a hashtag) You Will Be Found sung by Evan, Zoe, Alana (Vivian Panka) and Jared (Tom Dickerson), Evan's pal who fakes some emails for cash. LaurenConroy from Glenrothes, a former KAOS (Kirkcaldy Amateur Operatic Society) member as sister Zoe gets her big number Requiem and rightfully gets wild applause. There are melodies here that hint on the writers' future triumphs like The Greatest Showman or LA LA Land and all beautifully orchestrated by Michael Bradley and his 9-piece orchestra. I am avoiding going over the full plot as it twists cleverly so much you need to see it and explains the reason for the growing cult following and reasons for the queues for the array of merchandise. This musical works on so many levels. Dear Evan Hansen at Edinburgh Playhouse until July 5, tickets:
