Emmerdale casts EastEnders star Joe Absolom as dark new story is confirmed

Former EastEnders star Joe Absolom has joined the cast of Emmerdale as part of a dark new storyline involving Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb). Joe, who rose to fame as Matthew Rose in the BBC One soap during the 90s, will play a former contact of Mack's named Ray. Ray arrives in the village in upcoming scenes with a calm and collected exterior, claiming to be selling farm machinery, but it's not long before his drug dealing ways come to light – and a menacing streak surfaces. Discussing his casting, Joe said: 'Well what an honour to join such a talented team at Emmerdale! It's an iconic show and I'm grateful to be part of it. I can't wait to see what's in stock for Ray!' Emmerdale boss Laura Shaw added: 'We are thrilled to welcome Joe Absolom to the cast. 'It's fantastic to have such a high calibre and immensely talented actor join our wonderful team to play the role of Ray. 'Charming, charismatic and effortlessly likeable, Ray is an extremely complex character who very quickly shows his dark and villainous side to some of our most loved villagers, leaving them in no doubt as to what he's capable of.' Consider us intrigued . Mackenzie isn't exactly having the best year after he was accused of causing the slurry leak which led to Harry's hospitalisation, not to mention Claudette and Charles Anderson suffering a spell of sickness in the aftermath due to the contaminated water supply. He was also the subject of a flash-forward that we still know little about as he was seemingly chased through the woods – or at the very least was seen running away from something. To top it all off, Mack was also trapped in Lewis Barton's (Bradley Riches) loft this week when he and Ross (Michael Parr) concocted a scheme to try take the newcomer's cannibis plants. More Trending But just what trouble will Ray bring to his door? Actor Joe is best known for his time in Walford between 1997 and 2000 as Matthew Rose, who was famously framed for the murder of Saskia Duncan (Deborah Sheridan-Taylor), who had actually been killed by club owner Steve Owen (Martin Kemp). Since leaving EastEnders, he has went on to land roles in The Bill, New Tricks, Doc Martin, Death in Paradise and A Confession – and recently appeared in Silent Witness. Emmerdale's Paddy Kirk to be victim of dog attack as new character introduced

Emmerdale character Paddy Kirk will be taken to hospital after a dog attack as part of a new storyline that will also see actress Jaye Griffiths joining the ITV soap. Griffiths, who has starred in the crime shows Death in Paradise and Silent Witness as well as the BBC soaps Casualty and Doctors, will play tenant farmer Celia, a neighbour of Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb). Celia, who has a bad reputation, will be seen on screen from June. She calls on Moira to ask if she can rent two of her fields, but Moira says no. Later, vet Paddy (Dominic Brunt) will be taken to hospital after an encounter with the new farmer's guard dogs. Celia will show her "true colours from her reaction to the attack", the soap teased. Griffiths said: "I was delighted to get this role. Without giving the game away, she is very different to anyone I have played before, and I can't wait to really get into the heart of her storyline." The new Emmerdale star previously played the tough police officer Sally Johnson in The Bill, chaotic consultant Elle Gardner on Casualty and, briefly, Holby City; and Doctors ' ambitious GP Elizabeth Croft. Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw said: "We are absolutely delighted to have Jaye Griffiths joining us to play the role of Celia. "Having recently taken over a nearby farm, not much is known about mysterious Celia's past before arriving on the outskirts of the village. "While Celia has a tough edge with an air of respectability, the audience, and our villagers, will soon start to see what this woman is truly capable of." Celia is renting from Kim Tate, played by Claire King, and her arrival could spark a rivalry with the established farming families of the Bartons and the Sugdens, the soap also suggested.

The Marlow Murder Club will return to screens with an all-new series. UKTV has announced that the detective show starring Jo Martin and Samantha Bond has been renewed for a third season, with filming already underway on the follow-up outing. Cara Horgan and Natalie Dew will reprise their roles as Becks Starling and detective Tanika Malik, alongside fellow series regulars Holli Dempsey, Phill Langhorne and Tijan Sarr. "Now an established part of newly promoted DI Tanika Malik's (Dew) crime solving team, retired archaeologist Judith Potts (Bond), dog walker Suzie Harris (Jo Martin) and vicar's wife Becks Starling (Horgan) are back and bringing their unconventional methods to a string of high-profile murders," teases the official show synopsis. The recommission follows in the wake of season 2 which arrived on screens in April this year. The third season of The Marlow Murder Club will comprise of six episodes, with three new murder mysteries to solve, that will unfold over two episodes each. Related: "From the sudden death of the nicest man in Marlow, the town's beloved Mayor, to a celebrity chef found dead at the launch of his cookbook with half the town in attendance, the team will be working under the watchful eye of the Marlow community," the synopsis continues. "They'll also be called to action at a university reunion in an eerie manor house where in a surprising twist, Becks finds herself amongst the suspects. Could this case threaten our amateur sleuths' roles as civilian advisors?" The Marlow Murder Club is based on the bestselling book series of the same name by Robert Thorogood, who also created Death in Paradise and co-created its spin-off shows Beyond Paradise and Return to Paradise. Related: Season three will be based on the third book in the franchise, Queen of Poisons, with Thorogood having also co-written the first two episodes of the next instalment with Daniel Rusteau. The Marlow Murder Club has been described as "cosy" in reviews by Decider and The Daily Telegraph, while Digital Spy awarded three stars to season 2, praising the finale which left viewers with "the desire to know these women more". No release date has been shared yet, but viewers can expect the new season to arrive on U and U&DRAMA in 2026. The Marlow Murder Club seasons 1 and 2 are available on U now.
