Rahul reiterates Congress support to Modi govt on Pahalgam terror attack
1 2 3 Lucknow: Leader of Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday extended full support to the central govt over its stand on the Pahalgam terror attack . "You all must have heard about the terror attack in Pahalgam… I was out of the country at that time but came back the moment I heard about it. The party also convened a Congress Working Committee meeting on the issue and decided to back the central govt on the issue," the MP told booth workers in his constituency Rae Bareli on the first day of his two-day visit. The MP is likely to visit Kanpur to meet the family members of the Pahalgam terror attack victim Shubham Dwvedi. Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday wrote to PM Narendra Modi, asking him to convene a special session of Parliament to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack and demonstrate a collective resolve. Political analysts saw Rahul's message as more than just a reaffirmation to the Modi govt. "It is no less than a whip for party workers and a message for them to refrain from making any insensitive statement on the Pahalgam attack which may embarrass the party," said a Congress functionary. Rahul appealed to the booth workers to engage with women voters and convince them to join the Congress. He said every worker must commit to rebuild the Congress organisation in his/her respective zone. Earlier, Rahul attended the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting in which he expressed dissatisfaction over the implementation of the central schemes in Rae Bareli. Sources said he accused the local administration of misreporting facts. He cited a self-survey to assess the effectiveness of the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana and pointed out that only 3 out of 25 trainees were found to be employed, dubbing the scheme a complete failure. Dismissing the Congress MP's claims, district authorities said the scheme has benefitted 1,107 persons. MLC from Lucknow Graduate Constituency, Avnish Singh, said calling the scheme a failure was not correct though it might have some shortcomings.
