Man Utd transfer target told he is making mistake by choosing Chelsea instead

Troy Deeney says Liam Delap is 'missing a step in his development' by opting to join Chelsea over Manchester United. Chelsea have reportedly won the race to make Delap their first piece of business of the summer transfer window, with the 22-year-old Ipswich striker on the cusp a move to Stamford Bridge. According to Fabrizio Romano, Delap has now completed the first part of his medical with the Europa Conference League winners – and the deal is expected to be finalised over the coming days. Manchester United, Arsenal, Newcastle and Everton had all been credited with an interest in Delap after the forward's eye-catching season in the Premier League, in which he racked up 12 goals and two assists in a struggling Ipswich side. The Red Devils were even favourites to capture Delap at one stage, only to fall behind Chelsea in the running, with the Blues able to offer the young attacker Champions League football next season. A relegation release clause in Delap's contract at Portman Road means the England Under-21 international is set to join Chelsea for a fee of just £30million this summer. Reacting to the latest rumours on talkSPORT, ex-Watford striker Deeney argued that a switch to Old Trafford may have made more sense for Delap's development. 'I think, personally, when I just look at his development, I thought Manchester United was a perfect fit,' Deeney said. 'The jump from Under-23s football, he's had a couple of loans and some were okay, some weren't okay. 'But then he goes to Ipswich and has a solid season, I wouldn't say it was exceptional. In the second half of the season he wasn't great. 'The second they got relegated, he didn't play. Whether that's a manager's decision looking forward or whatever… but I think he's got so much more of his game that he still needs to develop. 'Going to Manchester United at this stage of his career, where they are, he would have had to deal with the big experience, being the man to take them to the next level, then he would be ready for Europe. 'I think he's missing a step in his development [by joining Chelsea].' Asked if Chelsea are a level above United, Deeney replied: 'Of course they are. 'Purely from a football point of view, he's going from being in a relegation scrap to now fighting in the Champions League, expecting to win more cups and trying to go and kick on.' Deeney warned Delap over the level of expectation he is likely to face at Chelsea, pointing to the struggles Gonzalo Higuain experienced when taking over the 'heavy' No.9 shirt in west London. More Trending Quizzed on whether Delap could be the man to finish Chelsea's chances and take the club forward, Deeney responded: 'I don't know, yet to be seen. 'I think he's a good finisher, I don't know if he's a great finisher. 'You've had the likes of Higuain come in at Chelsea and it's a different, heavy shirt to wear than doing it at Ipswich. 'I think he can do it. I just think in an ideal world he would have one more step and then he would have gone into the Champions League.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Arsenal told to REFUSE to give Liverpool guard of honour - 'A load of b*******!'

Chelsea became the first club to give Liverpool a guard of honour after they were officially crowned as Premier League champions and Arsenal will now decide whether to do the same Troy Deeney has urged Arsenal to spurn the 'humiliation' of giving Liverpool a guard of honour in an X-rated rant. The Gunners take on the recently-crowned Premier League champions this weekend at Anfield. The game comes two weeks after Arne Slot 's side were officially crowned as champions. Chelsea became the first side to give them a guard of honour ahead of their clash at Stamford Bridge on Sunday - a game that the Blues ended up winning 3-1. ‌ And Deeney has suggested that Arsenal should NOT do the same. Speaking to The Sun before the clash in West London, the former Premier League striker said: 'Chelsea will give Liverpool a 'guard of honour' before tomorrow's Premier League match at Stamford Bridge. And next weekend, presumably, Arsenal will do the same. ‌ "But like so many other things in modern football, it's something I will never understand. Frankly, I think it's a load of old b*****ks. It's not so much a mark of respect as a humiliation for the team lining up to give the champions a little clap. "It's as if Chelsea and Arsenal and everyone who plays the champs for the rest of the season, is saying, 'Well done, we're perfectly happy you beat us'. "When my Watford team lost an FA Cup final to Manchester City, we had to stand and clap while they got their medals. But that's after the match, that's fair enough. I was never in a position where I was expected to be part of a 'guard of honour'. "During my top-flight days, Watford never played against a team who had already been confirmed as champions. But if I had been in that situation, I'd have refused point-blank. That's what Arsenal, Liverpool's nearest challengers this season, should do next Sunday. That would really set down a marker for next season. No more Mr Nice Guys." A number of Arsenal fans have agreed emphatically with Deeney's claim. One supporter said: 'If Arteta does this at Anfield… Arsenal should under no circumstances be giving this outfit any guard of honour. Character building stuff for players to play amid the wave of boos.' Another added: 'I hope we don't give Liverpool a guard of honour, it's not obligatory so what's the point? Save your fans some embarrassment.' ‌ 'This is becoming ridiculous,' a final Arsenal supporter said. '@Arsenal @m8arteta nothing in the FA rules makes this mandatory. You don't have to give these ones any guard of wat wat. At this point it is no longer about them receiving honour and acknowledgement but about their club mocking Mikel Arteta. Don't!' Before considering whether they will give Liverpool a guard of honour or not, Arsenal have their Champions League semi-final with PSG to consider first.

Former England star, 42, pulled apart from Baller League rival as vicious brawl erupts following tackle

FORMER England star Joleon Lescott had to be pulled apart from a Baller League rival after a tackle sparked a vicious brawl. The incident occurred in Monday's clash between Lescott's side Deportrio and opponents Wembley Rangers. 2 2 Lescott, 42, stunned fans last month when he was announced as a wildcard pick for the side managed by Alan Shearer, Micah Richards and Gary Lineker. The former Three Lions star instantly became the Baller League's biggest hit following two Premier League title wins with Manchester City. But Lescott's prestigious career did not stop Wembley's Domingos Pires from crunching him with a brutal tackle. The challenge saw Lescott react angrily as he shoved his opponent in retaliation. However, his actions sparked an all-out brawl between both sides as fans went wild. The referee was forced to intervene alongside his assistants. And after order was restored, both Lescott and Pires were sent off the pitch for two minutes. But despite the melee, it was Lescott who had the last laugh as his side won 4-1 to go top of the Baller League. The clash came after a brutal encounter last week involving Troy Deeney. He was sent off just minutes into the game for a foul on Tareiq Holmes-Dennis. But his debut did not last long, with Deeney forced to sit out the rest of the action.

'Liverpool could win the Premier League for the next 5 years with one signing'

Liverpool has been told that the addition of a dependable striker would make them even stronger in the future. The Reds secured Premier League glory with a 5-1 victory over Spurs on Sunday, and with 80 goals from 34 games this season, they are the league's top scorers by some distance. However, only 11 of those goals have been scored by either Diogo Jota or Darwin Nunez, who are the two out-and-out strikers in Liverpool's squad. Natural wide players Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz have contributed 49 of Liverpool's league goals this term, prompting the club to consider signing a new striker this summer in order to ease the goal-scoring burden on that trio next term. "I look at Liverpool just now and they probably – not as much as Arsenal – could still do with an out-and-out No.9," McCoist said on talkSPORT. "Liverpool fans may be saying, 'what a ridiculous thing to say, we've got goals all over the pitch' and they have. "(Luis) Diaz has been brilliant, Salah has been out of this world and they've got midfielders chipping in, but maybe still a goalscoring centre forward [would help]. "I don't see it happening but say if Harry Kane won the Bundesliga, which he will do, and then fancied coming back to England – that would be a dream move for him." Troy Deeney, meanwhile, said that Alexander Isak would be the ideal target after impressing for Newcastle over the last three seasons. Isak is unlikely to be attainable this summer due to the astronomical transfer fee that would be involved but Deeney thinks signing the Swede would guarantee more title success in the future. "They're linked with Isak as well. If they were to get that, just give them the title for the next five years if they get that fella," Deeney said, before addressing other areas of the squad that he believes need strengthening "I can see them looking at a left-back," Deeney added. "Robertson has been fantastic but unfortunately, there comes a time when you get moved, it's just part and parcel of football. "Probably another centre half because if one of the guys goes down, they are light in that situation. And I still think they need an extra body in midfield. They haven't been lucky but nobody in that midfield three has been injured for a sustained period of time and if that was to happen then they are a little bit light after that.'"
