Chainsaw Man Part 2: Why Denji's story just got darker

Chainsaw Man Part 1 was already chaos, blood, devils, betrayal, and Denji just trying to cop a feel. But in Chainsaw Man Part 2, things go from messy to downright existential. The tone shifts, the stakes rise, and Denji is no longer the naive boy chasing simple pleasures. This is the Chainsaw Man universe post-Makima, and it's brutal in a whole new way. If you thought the first arc was dark, wait till you see what Chainsaw Man Part 2 has in store. Here's why Denji's story just got a lot more disturbing and why it might be the most important part of his character growth yet. Chainsaw Man Part 2: Denji is a hero with no reward Chainsaw Man Part 2 picks up after Denji defeats Makima, the Control Devil, and tries to live a 'normal' life. But nothing about his life is normal anymore. He's famous, sure, but he's also broke, emotionally numb, and being used by the government as a devil-hunting weapon. Despite technically 'winning,' Denji's left feeling emptier than ever. His dream of a simple, happy life is just that, a dream. The fame he gains as Chainsaw Man doesn't bring him peace. In fact, it puts a target on his back, isolating him further from anything resembling real connection or meaning. Chainsaw Man Part 2: Asa Mitaka and the War Devil change everything Chainsaw Man Part 2 introduces a brand-new protagonist: Asa Mitaka, a quiet, awkward high school girl who becomes the host of the War Devil, Yoru. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Resmed AirSense 11 with flat 20% off ResMed Buy Now Undo Their goal? Kill Chainsaw Man. Yep, our Chainsaw Man. Asa isn't like Denji. She's cautious, guilt-ridden, and constantly second-guessing herself. Her internal struggle with Yoru mirrors Denji's earlier bond with Pochita but with way more resentment and emotional weight. Through her, we see a different side of the world Denji inhabits: one that's slower, more tragic, and emotionally layered. Chainsaw Man Part 2: A darker, deeper tone takes over While Part 1 was fast-paced and explosive, Chainsaw Man Part 2 leans into psychological tension and emotional horror. The violence is still there, but it's more about what happens inside the characters than outside. Asa struggles with identity, trauma, and the need to be loved. Denji, meanwhile, wants to live a normal life but is constantly being pulled back into violence and manipulation. And let's not forget Nayuta, the reincarnated Control Devil, who Denji is now raising like a little sister. It's sweet, sure, but it's also twisted. Denji is trying to give Nayuta the love he never received, while carrying the weight of Makima's sins. Chainsaw Man Part 2: Why Denji's world feels even darker In Chainsaw Man Part 2, Denji is no longer just a victim of circumstance, he's becoming an active participant in the system that's crushing him. He chooses to hide his identity. He lets others manipulate his public image. And he keeps sacrificing pieces of himself for others, all while claiming he's happy. It's no longer about surviving devils, it's about surviving the human condition. Fame, loneliness, love, depression, Chainsaw Man Part 2 explores all of it, often without warning. The devils are still terrifying, but the real horror? It's how Denji smiles through the pain. Chainsaw Man Part 2 isn't trying to outdo Part 1 with nonstop gore or over-the-top shock value, it's doing something braver. It dares to slow down. It reflects on everything Denji has been through and strips away the chainsaw-fuelled chaos to expose a young man stuck in emotional limbo. Denji, once a reckless symbol of freedom and rebellion, is now navigating a world where that freedom feels… meaningless. This arc doesn't scream, it simmers. It's not about fighting devils anymore. It's about fighting loneliness, responsibility, public image, and the weight of past trauma. Denji's biggest battle now is simply surviving in a world that keeps asking more of him without ever giving him peace. If Part 1 was about breaking the system with raw power and blood, Chainsaw Man Part 2 is about crawling through the broken pieces, trying to live with the mess that's left behind. It's sadder. Smarter. And honestly? Scarier. And that quiet despair? That hits harder than any chainsaw ever could. Also read| 7 short anime series you can finish in one weekend

Chainsaw Man Part 2 anime: Release date, plot arcs and new characters you should know

Source: Imdb Chainsaw Man is far from over and things are only getting more intense. With Part 2 of the anime officially in the works, fans are bracing for another round of bloody battles, emotional gut-punches, and surreal storytelling that made the series a breakout hit. From rumours about its release window to the story arcs likely to be adapted, Chainsaw Man Part 2 promises darker themes, unpredictable characters, and even more devilish action. Whether you're a manga reader or anime-only fan, this next chapter is shaping up to be wilder, weirder, and even more unforgettable. Here's what we know so far. Is Chainsaw Man Part 2 confirmed? Source: Imdb While MAPPA hasn't dropped an official release date for Chainsaw Man Season 2, the production is widely expected to continue. Based on how Season 1 wrapped up, teasing Reze in that haunting post-credits scene, Part 2 is already in motion behind the scenes. Industry insiders and leakers suggest a late 2025 or early 2026 premiere window. What will Chainsaw Man Part 2 cover? Source: Imdb Part 2 will likely adapt the Bomb Girl arc, introducing Reze, a beautiful new character with explosive secrets (literally). But that's just the beginning. If MAPPA follows the manga closely, we can expect major arcs likely to be adapted: Bomb Girl Arc – Reze's shocking identity and her connection to the Soviet devil program. International Assassins Arc – A global chase with some of the wildest devil hunters ever. Gun Devil Arc (continued) – The resolution of the Gun Devil mystery and some heartbreaking turns. Katana Man aftermath – Denji dealing with fame, trauma, and identity crises. These arcs are more emotional, violent, and philosophical than anything we saw in Season 1 and that's saying something. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pirates Climb Aboard Cargo Ship - Watch What The Captain Did Next Tips and Tricks Undo Who are the new characters in Chainsaw Man Part 2? Source: Imdb Reze Don't be fooled by her charm. Reze is much more than a love interest, her backstory and power set will change everything for Denji. Quanxi The first devil hunter ever, and easily one of the coolest characters in the series. She's fast, deadly, and always one step ahead. Santa Claus No, not that Santa. This mysterious villain controls dolls and souls in ways that'll mess with your head. These characters bring deeper world-building, political intrigue, and moral complexity into the Chainsaw Man universe. Will Chainsaw Man Part 2 adapt Part 2 of the manga too? Source: Imdb Here's where it gets interesting: Chainsaw Man's manga 'Part 2' is a separate storyline featuring Asa Mitaka and the War Devil. It's set after Denji's first arc and has a totally different vibe, school life, dark comedy, and heavy philosophical themes. Most likely, the anime will finish Denji's main story (Part 1) before touching Asa's arc. But don't worry, Asa's story is just as gripping and could become a separate season or even a spin-off anime. Chainsaw Man Part 2 isn't just more gore and devils it's where the real emotional depth begins. Denji's story becomes darker, smarter, and way more heartbreaking. With Reze's arc leading the charge and global assassins entering the mix, the next season could top everything we've seen so far. So yeah, get your chainsaw revved and your emotions ready. Denji's not done wrecking devils or your heart just yet. Also read| J ujutsu Kaisen movie 2025: Plot, release date, and what to expect

Is ‘Chainsaw Man' returning for season 2? Everything we know so far

By Aman Shukla Published on July 10, 2025, 20:00 IST Last updated July 10, 2025, 16:18 IST Alright, Chainsaw Man fans, let's talk about the big question on everyone's mind: are we getting a Season 2 of this wild, bloody, and totally awesome anime? Since the first season dropped in 2022 and blew us all away, we've been dying to know what's next for Denji and his devil-hunting crew. So, let's break down what's going on, what we've heard, and why we're still hopeful. The Current Status of Chainsaw Man Season 2 As of right now—July 2025—MAPPA, the studio that brought us that jaw-dropping first season, hasn't officially said, 'Yup, Season 2 is coming!' But don't lose hope just yet. Chainsaw Man was a massive hit, and the manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto is still a fan favorite, with plenty of story left to tell. Word on the street (and by street, I mean X posts and anime forums) is that MAPPA's got a lot on their plate with stuff like Jujutsu Kaisen . That might be slowing things down, but a second season feels like a 'when,' not an 'if.' What About the Movie? Before we get Season 2, we're getting a treat: Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc . Yup, MAPPA's working on a film that'll cover the Bomb Girl arc, introducing the awesome and mysterious Reze. It's slated for 2026, and it's basically a bridge between Season 1 and whatever comes next. The fact that MAPPA's pouring resources into this movie is a pretty strong hint they're not done with Chainsaw Man . So, while we wait for Season 2 news, we've got Reze to keep us hyped. What Could Season 2 Look Like? If we do get Season 2 (fingers crossed), it'll likely pick up after the Reze Arc and dive into something like the International Assassins arc. Here's what to expect: New Faces: Reze's just the start—there are some wild new characters in the manga. Crazy Fights: The devils get even weirder, and MAPPA's animation would make those battles pop. Denji's Journey: Our boy's got dreams, heartbreak, and a whole lot of growing up to do. Ahmedabad Plane Crash Aman Shukla is a post-graduate in mass communication . Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc release date, story, trailer, cast, and more

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. The Chainsaw Man movie is getting closer every day and, thanks to this year's Anime Expo, we now have our best look yet at the upcoming film. Instead of season 2, we're getting a big-screen offering, officially titled Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, to continue Denji's story. If you can hardly wait for the follow-up to one of the best anime out there, we've got everything you need to know about the Chainsaw Man movie, from its release date, plot details, trailer updates, and more. As you might have guessed from the title, the movie is set to adapt the manga's Reze Arc. This follows on from Denji's origin as a Public Safety Devil Hunter and member of Tokyo Special Division 4, and things are about to get a lot bigger and bolder – it's affectionally referred to as the Bomb Girl arc by fans for a reason. For more updates on some of the other biggest anime titles out there, take a look at our guides to Vinland Saga season 3, all the latest on the new anime arriving over the next year, and One-Punch Man season 3. As announced during the weekend of AnimeJapan, Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc is releasing on September 19 in Japanese cinemas and October 29 in the US and UK. Reze Arc's release is being staggered in other territories: it's sit to hit most Asian regions on September 25 and September 26, while France is the first western territory to clap eyes on the Chainsaw Man movie on October 22. Alongside the US and UK, several other countries (including Germany and Belgium) will also get Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc on October 29. Rounding things off is a release in a clutch of territories (such as Spain, Mexico, and the majority of South America) on October 30. Unless it runs over into a second season, it appears the Chainsaw Man movie will hurtle through the explosive Bomb Girl arc (chapters 40-52) and will set up the International Assassins arc (chapters 53-70) for TV episodes down the line. The synopsis of the Chainsaw Man movie reads, "Denji became Chainsaw Man a boy with a devil's heart, and is now part of Special Division 4's devil hunters. After a date with Makima, the woman of his dreams, Denji takes shelter from the rain. There he meets Reze, a girl who works in a café." The first season of Chainsaw Man adapted the first 38 chapters of the manga. So, if you want to read ahead to see what the movie will cover, then you'll need to start from chapter 39. As of right now, it's unclear how far the feature film will reach in terms of adapting the source material. We're about 40% of the way through the manga's first part (the Public Safety Saga), though there's likely a little too much material to cover for just one movie. No spoilers here, but the woman seen at the end of the season 1 finale – Reze – will factor heavily into the movie, and she'll certainly get close to Denji. The overarching threat of Gun Devil will also be keenly felt as the now-merged Division 4 of Public Safety and its team of Devil Hunters encounter new friends and foes. On the topic of Chainsaw Man season 2: yes, we're just as surprised as you are that the anime is going into a canon movie directly after its first season. A second season will surely arrive down the line and will likely cover the aforementioned International Assassins arc, which (to keep it vague) features Denji's notoriety increasing, something which puts him on the radar of various hitmen. Still catching up on one of the best anime series around? The first season of Chainsaw Man revolved around a boy called Denji and his Chainsaw Devil/dog companion, Pochita. After inheriting his father's debt from the yakuza, Denji becomes a Devil Hunter – but is killed by a Zombie Devil, one of many creatures that manifest from humanity's fears. Denji, however, is revived and fuses with Pochita to become the titular Chainsaw Man. By pulling the ripcord on his head, he can turn into what is, essentially, a sentient chainsaw. Much of the first season saw him grow into his role as Public Safety Devil Hunter alongside partners Power, Aki, Himeno, and Kobeni. They face off against the likes of the Bat Devil, Ghost Devil, and Katana Man – who they eventually capture. The season ends with the Snake Devil killing Akane, the team being on the hunt for the Gun Devil, and the introduction of a mysterious new woman who asks whether someone would rather be a "country mouse" or a "city mouse." The first Chainsaw Man trailers are here. The initial Reze Arc teaser, released in December 2024, puts the spotlight on Reze and her fledgling dynamic with Denji. You can see it for yourself above. The second 30-second trailer again teases Reze's disruptive qualities, with her inclusion setting up some serious shock and awe in Denji's life. A full trailer dropped at the Anime Expo in July 2025, where Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc had a large presence with a full panel. The clip, which you can watch below, establishes the movie's explosive love triangle, as well as giving us a glimpse of Denji's transformation and the movie's new theme song. We expect Denji (Kikunosuke Toya), Makima (Tomori Kusunoki), Kobeni (Karin Takahashi) Power (Fairouz Ai), and Aki (Shogo Sakata) all to return in the Chainsaw Man movie. One major newcomer will be Reze (Reina Ueda), while we also anticipate much of the English dub cast to reprise their roles. There are some newcomers to the cast, too: Hidenori Takahashi joins as the vice-captain of the Public Safety Demon Suppression Special Section 2, Kenji Akabane will play his colleague Nomo, Kenji Nomura will voice the mysterious man who's after the Chainsaw Heart, and Eri Kitamura is the Typhoon Demon. Yes, Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc continues where the first season left off and will be canon to the events of the anime. In short, it's a must-watch if you want to continue Denji's saga - in much the same way Mugen Train was effectively presented (and later adapted) as Demon Slayer's second season. However, we still expect an actual Chainsaw Man season 2 to be released at some point after the movie. That means, in effect, the watch order will go: Chainsaw Man season 1, Reze Arc movie, Chainsaw Man season 2. The first season of Chainsaw Man is available to watch, subbed and dubbed on Crunchyroll for Premium members. It's safe to assume the Chainsaw Man movie will be released theatrically and will likely stream on Crunchyroll down the line. Not sure what to watch next? Here are some of the best anime movies you should be watching right now, plus our guides on how to watch Dragon Ball in order and how to watch Attack on Titan in order.

Love Is in the Air in The New ‘Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc' Trailer

If you've been hankering for some Chainsaw Man in anime form, MAPPA is taking the shonen anime to theaters with the upcoming Reze Arc movie. During this weekend's festivities at Anime Expo, the studio unleashed a new trailer show how much love, death, and caranage await Denji and the gang in September. Set after the anime's first season, things kick off with Denji's boss Makima finally agreeing to go on a date with him. Just as he's reeling from getting to achieve another facet of normal life, a second girl by the name of Reze arrives and hits his heart. The more he hangs out with Reze, the more Denji finds himself conflicted about which girl he's crazy for, or if there's room for both of them in his heart. But this is Chainsaw Man, and that means Denji can't ever get a break. Not only was Reze lying about her intentions, she's actually the Bomb Devil, and wants him to join her side by any means necessary, which soon puts all of Tokyo in danger. This new trailer spends some more time showing Denji's thoughts on the two objects of his affection and his individual dates with them both, which involve subtly manipulating his teenage heart. And once Reze shows up in her Devil form, all hell breaks loose as Denji takes to the sky to fight his crush and his fellow Hunters Aki and Angel enter the fray. Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc hits theaters in Japan on September 19, then internationally on September 24 before hitting the US on October 29. Want more io9 news?
