Ruru Madrid grateful for winning Best Supporting Actor for ‘Green Bones' at EDDYs 2025

Ruru Madrid is nothing short of grateful as he won another acting award for 'Green Bones.' The Kapuso actor won his third acting award for the film, this time from the Entertainment Editors' Choice Awards or the EDDYs. Ruru shared a message of gratitude on Instagram, saying, 'Pangatlong biyaya, pero sa bawat pagkilala, laging bago ang pasasalamat.' 'Hindi madaling pagsabayin ang pagiging critically acclaimed at tinangkilik ng masa. Pero ang pelikulang ito ay patunay na kapag totoo ang puso mo sa sining, mararamdaman ito ng bawat manonood.' Ruru also reflected on how nothing is impossible as long as one has perseverance, love for the craft, and chooses to be a good person in their career and life. Ruru thanked the EDDYs for the award, and said it was an honor to stand alongside influential artists. 'Mas lalo nitong pinatibay ang panata ko: Ako'y alagad ng sining—at habang naririto ako, patuloy kong ihahayag sa mundo ang galing, kwento, at talento ng Pilipino,' he said. 'Para sa lahat ng naniwala. Para sa lahat ng nagmahal sa pelikula. Para sa bayan,' Ruru added. 'Mabuhay ang pelikulang Pilipino. Tuloy ang kwento.' 'Green Bones' won several at the EDDYs 2025, including Best Picture, Best Actor for Dennis Trillo, Best Director for Zig Dulay, and Best Cinematography for Neil Daza. Dennis and Ruru accepted the Box Office Hero award. It also bagged several awards at the Metro Manila Film Festival 2024, such as Best Picture, Best Screenplay (Ricky Lee and MMFF 2023 Best Screenplay winner Angeli Atienza), Best Actor (Dennis), Best Supporting Actor (Ruru), Best Cinematography (Neil), and Best Child Performer (Sienna Stevens). Moreover, it won First Best Picture, Best Actor (Dennis), Best Supporting Actor (Ruru), and Best Director (Direk Zig) at the 3rd Gawad Dangal Filipino Awards. 'Green Bones' follows Domingo Zamora (Dennis), who is notorious for the murder of his sister and her daughter. Now that Domingo is up for parole, the newly assigned prison guard (Ruru) takes a personal interest in making sure that he remains behind bars no matter what. The GMA Pictures film debuted on Netflix in June and immediately climbed to the top spot on the list of Top Movies in the Philippines on its debut week. —Nika Roque/CDC, GMA Integrated News

‘Green Bones' donates set props to Manila City Jail

'Green Bones,' starring Dennis Trillo and Ruru Madrid, has donated its props and set pieces to the Manila City Jail. On Monday, GMA Pictures shared a video on social media of the Manila City Jail Male Dorm featuring some of the props used in the film, such as wooden bunk beds, tables, and chairs that will now be used by persons deprived of liberty (PDLs). According to SJ01 Melchor Sevellino, the PDLs in the dorm are all senior citizens. 'From reel to real life,' the caption read. Previously, the Manila City Jail held a special screening of 'Green Bones.' The film, produced by GMA Pictures, is directed by Zig Dulay based on an original story by JC Rubio, senior documentary manager of GMA Public Affairs. It follows Domingo Zamora (Dennis Trillo), who is notorious for the murder of his sister and her daughter. Now that Domingo is up for parole, the newly assigned prison guard (Ruru Madrid) takes a personal interest in making sure that he remains behind bars no matter what. On Sunday night, "Green Bones" took home five awards at the 8th Entertainment Editors' Choice Awards (EDDYS Awards), which include: Best Picture, Best Actor for Dennis, Best Supporting Actor for Ruru, Best Director for Dulay, and Best Cinematography for Neil Daza. STB's ecoGreenPlanet hits 62 pct of tree planting target at PNR Miri

(Holding banner, from second right) Dennis, Yii, and participants commemorate the programme with a group photo. MIRI (July 19): Over 6,000 trees have now been planted across Sarawak under the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) ecoGreenPlanet initiative. Following the planting of 2,500 seedlings at Piasau Nature Reserve (PNR) here, the initiative has reached 62 per cent of its target to plant 10,000 trees by 2027. Speaking at the tree planting event at PNR yesterday, STB chairman Dato Dennis Ngau said the effort reflects a deeper commitment to sustainability beyond mere rhetoric. 'Today is not only about planting trees. It is about planting hope, partnerships, and accountability. 'It is about showing the world that Sarawak doesn't just talk about sustainability – we act on it,' he said. He added that Piasau Nature Reserve, with its natural beauty and rich biodiversity, serves as a fitting location to reaffirm Sarawak's pledge to environmental responsibility. The ecoGreenPlanet initiative was launched in 2023 in collaboration with the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC), as part of the state's broader environmental goals under the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030. Previous planting activities were also carried out at Samunsam Wildlife Sanctuary and Bukit Lima Nature Reserve, where the trees planted are estimated to offset more than 1,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide over the next 10 years. 'Every seedling represents our belief that tourism can, and must, be a force for good,' Dennis emphasised. This year's planting also forms part of the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) 2025 sustainability programme, which includes initiatives such as a shuttle bus system to reduce emissions and solar-powered charging stations and lighting supported by Sarawak Energy Berhad. 'Through the Rainforest World Music Festival, we are leading by example and showing what sustainable tourism can look like in action,' he concluded. Also present was Miri Mayor Adam Yii. ecoGreenPlanet Piasau Nature Reserve Sarawak Tourism Board tree planting

A hike in mortgage rates might force me to recruit another terrier-loving lodger

I'm obsessively monitoring the financial headlines. 'Tax raid looms'. 'Job market slows'. 'Economy shrinks'. 'Food prices up'. 'Interest rate cut likely', and so on. Cheery stuff like that. I don't pretend to understand terms such as 'fiscal headroom' or 'consumer resilience', but I read them all the same. It's anything about interest rates that I find most gripping, though, because my mortgage is up in a month and it's not looking great. After five blessed years of a lovely low rate, I'm now facing something much higher, and my repayments are likely to double. It's a choppy time for a freelance writer. 'I should have become a corporate lawyer after all,' I thought last week, squinting through yet another financial article about the chances of a rate cut next month. The lack of knowledge about fiscal headroom and consumer resilience might have held me back, but I'm sure I could have muddled through. I keep checking in with my mortgage adviser, a terrifically jolly man called James who's often on holiday (most recently in Croatia, so perhaps I should have become a mortgage adviser instead?), and he's doing his best to fiddle around and see what can be done, but still, like plenty of others across the country, I'm facing a hike. Should I find a second lodger, that's the big question. I already have one living with me in south-east London, but soon we may need a third party to join us. Or a fourth, if we include Dennis, my terrier. Given that I'm 40, this feels very studenty. Three of us milling around in the kitchen, trying to make supper at the same time? Separate shelves in the fridge? Taking it in turns to use the washing machine? 'You have a flatmate?' a friend said, in vaguely horrified tones, when she came for dinner recently. 'Yes,' I replied simply. I wanted to add (but didn't), 'and you have a husband to share the mortgage, so try not to sound so patronising'. I don't have a husband, and Dennis is rubbish at contributing to the bills, so it's just me on the mortgage. One flatmate helps, but if my repayments double, then another one would help even further. But the idea of having to wait for someone else's pants to dry on the line before I can hang my own isn't absolutely filling me with joy. I know, I know, I'm extremely fortunate to own anywhere at all, to have two spare rooms that I can let out. Moaning about mortgage repayments when plenty of Gen Z say they'll never be able to afford a house is the kind of grumble which is likely to get me metaphorically lynched on the internet. Again. But the looming increase is making me feel more sympathetic to those who carp on about the 'singles tax' – the extra costs single people face because they don't have a partner to share household bills, car repayments, grocery shopping, and the odd emergency trip to the vet because the dog has swallowed yet another chicken bone off the pavement.

Private Credit Giant Ares Is Seeing More Defense Opportunities in Europe

Ares Management, the $550 billion alternative investor, expects private lenders to get more involved in funding Europe's rearmament. 'We are starting to see more defense opportunities come across the desk,' Mike Dennis, the company's co-head of European credit, tells Bloomberg News' James Crombie and Bloomberg Intelligence's Jeroen Julius in this episode of the Credit Edge podcast. 'We would tend to be cautious — we need to listen to what our LPs' appetite for those types of businesses are,' says Dennis, referring to Ares' limited partners and their environmental, social and governance concerns. Dennis and Julius also discuss middle-market loan pricing, private-credit returns and where Ares might look to open up new offices in Europe.
