‘Don't hesitate to fly the flag': Aaron on upside-down Jalur Gemilang incident

PETALING JAYA: National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang has urged Malaysians not to feel afraid or hesitant to display the national flag despite recent incidents in which the Jalur Gemilang was hung upside down. 'I would like to stress that the public should not feel afraid or hesitant to display the national flag because of these incidents. Instead, we should take this opportunity to learn and understand the proper procedures for flying the Jalur Gemilang,' he said in a statement on X today. This follows a series of incidents where the Jalur Gemilang has been displayed incorrectly. Aaron described the act of hanging the flag upside down as inappropriate and a violation of the proper flag display protocol under the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1963. While it could have been intentional, he said it might also have been due to negligence or lack of awareness. 'In the spirit of unity, we should not be quick to make assumptions without waiting for the full results of the investigation. 'I call on all parties to calm the situation by refraining from making provocative statements or taking actions that could further worsen matters,' he said. Aaron said the matter should be left to the authorities to investigate and determine appropriate action, adding that it serves as a reminder to appreciate and respect national symbols. He also encouraged Malaysians to support the 'One House, One Jalur Gemilang' campaign in conjunction with the National Month celebrations. He said he had instructed the Department of National Unity and Integration to carry out awareness campaigns through Rukun Tetangga areas, Rukun Negara Clubs, and the Rukun Negara Secretariat to ensure the public understands the correct way to display the national flag.

Youths Urged To Join SRS To Boost KRT Security And Foster Unity

ARAU, May 18 (Bernama) -- Youths have been urged to join the Voluntary Patrol Scheme (SRS) initiative, which plays a key role in enhancing security within Neighbourhood Watch Areas (KRTs) and fostering a spirit of unity in the community from a young age. Director-general of the Department of National Unity and Integration (JPNIN), Datuk Che Roslan Che Daud, said that youths' involvement in the SRS could help develop a sense of responsibility and concern for security in their respective residential areas. 'We strongly encourage youth involvement in SRS so they not only care about the security of their residential areas but also foster a spirit of unity and volunteerism from a young age. SRS is open to individuals aged 18 and above, and the government provides annual protection contributions for members,' he said.

JPNIN to focus on community safety at border areas in four states

TUMPAT: The Department of National Unity and Integration (JPNIN) is to focus on enhancing community safety in border towns in four states, namely Kelantan, Kedah, Perlis and Perak to combat the drug menace. JPNIN director-general Datuk Che Roslan Che Daud said earlier Ministry of National Unity secretary-general , Datuk Ruji Ubi, had attended the Cabinet Committee on Combating Drug Abuse (MPJKMD) Coordinating Council Meeting. 'In the meeting, he recommended that the Rukun Tetangga Area (KRT) and Voluntary Patrol Scheme (SRS) be activated at the community level, especially those near the national border to combat drug abuse. 'This is because the existence of active KRTs and SRSs has proven to be able to play an effective role in maintaining community safety and security,' he told Bernama today. Che Roslan said there were two KRTs, namely Sungai Kantan Kajang KRT, Selangor and Chenulang KRT, Kuala Krai, Kelantan, which have been conducting patrols and controls every day to ensure neighbourhood safety in residential areas. 'The effectiveness of SRS will be further enhanced through the MySRS application which allows the department to monitor the implementation of SRS in real time. 'In addition, the role of SRS in the community and further intensifying the implementation of the '1 Family 1 SRS Member' Campaign at all levels, especially at the KRT level, to assist the government in addressing social ills and security issues in neighbourhoods, thus increasing the level of security among the community,' he said.
