Mets Make Historic Francisco Lindor Announcement During Rockies Game
Mets Make Historic Francisco Lindor Announcement During Rockies Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Mets (36-22) are in a good position considering that they entered Sunday's matchup vs. the Colorado Rockies (9-49) tied for the NL's best record with only two-thirds of their star trio hitting well. Juan Soto was slashing .231/.357/.413, but Pete Alonso was slashing .288/.386/.535 and Francisco Lindor .283/.356/.483. Advertisement The latter player has been reliable at the plate since he entered the league with the Cleveland Guardians in 2015. He entered Sunday with a career .275/.342/.477 slash line with an average of 24 homers and 73 RBI across 130 games per season. However, he already has 13 homers and 34 RBI through just 58 contests as of this writing after his solo blast in the fifth inning vs. Colorado. Lindor also made history with that homer, via the Mets' social media. New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor (12).Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images "With his 5th inning home run, Francisco Lindor is now 4th all-time in home runs by a Shortstop!" the club said. The 31-year-old passed Derek Jeter and now sits at 261 career homers. He trails Hanley Ramirez by 11 for third place. The 398-foot shot to left center gave New York a 4-3 lead. Alonso hit a three-run blast to right center in the fourth to give the team a 3-1 lead at the time. Advertisement After they finish their bout with the Rockies, the Mets will hit the road to face the Los Angeles Dodgers (36-22) and play the Rockies again. They will then host the Washington Nationals (28-30) and Tampa Bay Rays (30-28) before more road matches with the Atlanta Braves (27-30) and Philadelphia Phillies (36-22). Mets Facing Backlash After Francisco Lindor Announcement
Mets Facing Backlash After Francisco Lindor Announcement originally appeared on Athlon Sports. New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor is amid another productive season. Now 31 years old, Lindor is in his 11th MLB campaign, and well on his way to a fifth All-Star Game selection. Entering Monday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Lindor ranks first among National League shortstops in OPS (.845) and home runs (13). Advertisement On Sunday, Lindor hit his 261st career home run, which surpassed New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter on the all-time list for shortstops. Where controversy arose was with the Mets' announcement that he now ranks fourth all-time in this category among players at his position. This official list includes players who spent 60% of their career games at shortstop. But as many fans pointed out, both Alex Rodriguez and Ernie Banks have more career home runs than Lindor in games they played shortstop, which some feel should be the criteria for this list. While this has been a topic of debate, even the Mets' official post on X received a community note that explained both Rodriguez and Banks hit more homers than Lindor while playing shortstop. Advertisement "To clarify, Lindor has the 4th-most home runs all-time by a career primary shortstop (minimum 60% starts at the position)," the community note read. "Alex Rodriguez & Ernie Banks hit more homeruns at shortstop but do not meet the primary position criteria." While New York's announcement was accurate by the primary position criteria, it has still been facing backlash from fans over that technicality. "leaving the best shortstop of all time off this list is comedy, respect A-Rod," said one. "I HATE to be that guy," one began. "But this isn't even close to being right. Cal is right, missing AROD and Banks. Hanley isn't top 5 either. What are we doing man?" Advertisement "Ernie Banks?" one asked. "Lmao take this down it's completely wrong," said another. "History is a big component to the game of baseball." "Yea, I am with you on this one. It makes more sense to only count HRs as a SS," replied another. "That's an artificial made up threshold to satisfy the stat," claimed one. "It's HRs hit while playing the position." Yankees legend's blunt comments after blowout loss to the Dodgers
Yankees legend's blunt comments after blowout loss to the Dodgers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter didn't mince words after watching the Bronx Bombers get clobbered by the Los Angeles Dodgers 18-2 on Saturday. It was a tough night for New York, and Jeter's assessment was blunt and to the point. Advertisement 'The Dodgers are a better team,' Jeter said as part of the panel on the Fox Sports postgame show. There's no sugarcoating it. The Dodgers dominated from start to finish, leaving the Yankees reeling and searching for answers. It's a reminder that while the Yankees have and history, the Dodgers have assembled a roster that's firing on all cylinders, even without Mookie Betts, Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow. Former New York Yankees captain and current Fox Sports analyst Derek Jeter.© Michelle Pemberton/IndyStar / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Jeter's former teammate and fellow analyst Alex Rodriguez pointed out that this was a series where the Yankees missed ace Gerrit Cole. Cole is out for the season after Tommy John surgery. 'Without Cole you have to pitch (Saturday's starter) Will Warren,' Rodriguez said. 'This is a tough lineup for him. Advertisement Jeter had nothing but praise for his successor as the Yankees' captain. Aaron Judge hit two home runs for the Yankees' two runs on Saturday. He has three in two games. 'He's locked in,' Jeter said. Rodriguez also praised Judge as playing 'on the next level,' and then he went speechless. But the broader message is clear from two former Yankees who won a World Series together in 2009. Judge may be on the level to take on the Dodgers, but the Yankees have work to do if they want a 2024 World Series rematch down the line. As the series heads into the finale, the Yankees face the challenge of regrouping quickly against a Dodgers team that's proving why they're contenders. Advertisement Jeter's honesty serves as a wake-up call for New York and GM Brian Cashman as the season starts to get into trade season. The Yankees had a chance to see how they measured up against the competition this weekend and as Jeter said, the Bronx Bombers fell way short. Tom Brady gets icy reception at Indianapolis 500 as he dons tight race suit for quick lap around Brickyard
Indianapolis Motor Speedway didn't give the warmest welcome to a man who had tortured their NFL team for over two decades. Fox Sports broadcast the Indy 500 in its first year of a new contract with the IndyCar series and brought out many of their talents across the various leagues they cover. One of those was former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who was introduced to the crowd in a full race suit with his name and iconic No. 12 on the back. Naturally, Indianapolis didn't take too kindly to seeing the man who had tortured their beloved Colts over the years. Brady was drenched in a chorus of boos from the fans at IMS as he waved to the crowd before the race got underway. Not only was Brady there, but so was his fellow NFL personality Michael Strahan as well as MLB broadcasters and former New York Yankees teammates Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez. While seven-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson drove the seven-time Super Bowl champion around the track, Brady was stunned by the experience 'This is incredible, Jimmie driving, all the fans here, I can't believe this is the first time I've ever been here,' Brady said. Brady was incredibly successful against the Colts across his career, putting up a record of 16-4 against Indianapolis. That includes wins in the 2003 AFC Championship, the 2004 AFC Divisional round, the 2013 AFC Divisional round, and the 2014 AFC Championship. His only playoff loss to the Colts came in the 2006 AFC Championship. His last game against the Colts came with the Buccaneers in 2021, with Brady winning 38-31. As for the actual running of 'The Greatest Spectacle in Racing', Alex Palou of Chip Ganassi Racing became the first Spaniard to ever win the Indianapolis 500. He just edged out 2022 Indy 500 winner Marcus Ericsson thanks to a bold pass with 14 laps to go.
