Tigers pound three homers, edge Royals in Lugo's return
May 31 - Riley Greene and Dillon Dingler set the pace with early two-run homers, and Spencer Torkelson went deep late, as the visiting Detroit Tigers won their fifth straight, 7-5 over the Kansas City Royals on Friday night. Dingler and Wenceel Perez each had three hits, while the former drove in three for the Tigers, who have averaged 6.7 runs amid a 12-3 road stretch. Detroit's offense picked up starter Casey Mize, who allowed three runs, eight hits and two walks over just 3 1/3 innings. Bobby Witt Jr. homered, Maikel Garcia had three hits to extend his hitting streak to 14 games and Drew Waters added two hits with three RBIs for the Royals, who stranded 11 men and went 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position. Kansas City's Seth Lugo (3-5) returned from a two-week-plus stint on the injured list and also lasted 3 1/3 innings, allowing both two-run homers, five hits and two walks. After retiring the first two batters of the game, Lugo allowed a single to Colt Keith, then Greene sent a drive deep into the right-field seats. Witt drove a Mize pitch into the left-field fountains in the bottom of the first. In the second, with a man on, Dingler clubbed a Lugo pitch over the left-field fence into the Tigers' bullpen. But, the Royals continued to pressure Mize in the third. Walks to Vinnie Pasquantino and Garcia sandwiched Salvador Perez's 300th career double. Waters' two-run single narrowed the deficit to 4-3. Mize's night ended in the fourth when the Royals loaded the bases, but the Tigers' Brant Hurter (2-0) did not allow any damage. Detroit got a run back in the fifth via Torkelson's RBI single. In the bottom of that frame, Perez grounded into an inning-ending 5-4-3 double play with two men on. Kansas City did not waste a leadoff triple in the seventh from Garcia, who scored on Mark Canha's sacrifice fly. However, Torkelson cleared the left-center field wall in the eighth and Dingler added an RBI single to add two insurance runs. Waters added an RBI single in the ninth, when the Royals brought the tying run to the plate. Will Vest allowed the run, but picked up his eighth save. --Field Level Media

Metro Detroit native breaks world traveling record after visiting every country
On Friday afternoon, Michael Zervos received an incredibly warm welcome at the Detroit Metro Airport. Several of his closest friends and family members flooded the terminal, celebrating the completion of a record-setting journey that had been years in the making. Zervos visited 195 United Nations-recognized countries in just 499 days. "It felt long, terminable, difficult, frustrating, but at the same time, it was beautiful. It was mesmerizing. It was captivating, meeting people from all walks of life everywhere in the world," Zervos said. This vision is part of his brainchild called Project Kosmos. He says it's a way to see as much of the world as possible, while asking natives in each country one crucial question: "What's the happiest moment of your life?" "I've always been a thrill seeker and wanted to test my limits. I guess challenging yourself makes you better, but on the other side of things, I wanted to tell stories. I wanted to collect stories across the world about happiness and help other people," he said. The idea was born in his pursuit of happiness. He says he overcame years of depression and got inspired after the pandemic. When he decided to change his life for the better, he wanted to explore what it truly means to be happy. "The smallest thing, a breeze a cup of coffee sitting down with loved ones those can give you as much happiness as winning a contest, breaking world record, even though it really is all about perspective and when you look at things small things, you can have those experiences of happiness pretty much every day and you don't have to climb a mountain to do it," Zervos said. You can follow his journey on social media and his website.

2026 Dodge Durango First Look Review: It's Survived Four CEOs
The remarkable thing about the Dodge Durango isn't only solely how long it's been on sale, it's also that it's remained fun to drive and somewhat competitive in terms of family hauling. Still, it needs an update, as the available safety and convenience technologies lag the segment's best. Sure, the engine lineup has been tweaked and the interior and exterior slightly updated here and there, but this three-row family SUV has survived for much longer than Stellantis has existed and existed under four CEOs including Fiat Chrysler leadership. It makes you wonder just how much longer the Durango will soldier on. 0:00 / 0:00 We know it will exist at least in its current form for the 2026 model year, when it will once again be the last Dodge product available with a V-8. The base level GT will continue using the 3.6-liter V-6 Pentastar engine, the Durango R/T will stick with the 360-hp, 390-lb-ft 5.7-liter Hemi V-8, and the SRT Hellcat once again rocks a 710-hp, 645-lb-ft supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V-8. In familiar Dodge fashion, freshness is injected via packages and aesthetic add-ons. The Blacktop Redline is new on the Durango R/T's option list and adds blacked-out 20-inch wheels, black badging, and black SRT exhaust tips, as well as SRT front and rear spoilers. If you also order the $5,990 Tow N Go package, wider 20-inch wheels (including a forged option) and a set of black Brembo calipers are included. Inside, the Blacktop Redline R/T gets SRT front seats and standard second-row captain's chairs wrapped in leather and microsuede with red accent stitching. Leather is also applied to the door trim and center console, and interior trim pieces are laser-etched with a geometric 'crypto sweep' graphic. The Blacktop Redline package adds $3,495 to the R/T Plus and R/T Premium trims. The standard R/T can be ordered with a less comprehensive Blacktop package that adds black wheels, black badging, and black roof rails in a seven-seat configuration for $1,695. If you're more into show than go, the 295-hp V-6 Durango GT's Blacktop Redline package features red stripes on the front fender and liftgate, a performance hood, SRT spoilers, and leather and suede SRT performance front seats. Order books open next month, while pricing and further details on the 2026 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat will be announced later this year.

Cleveland Guardians place outfielder Lane Thomas on 10-day injured list
CLEVELAND (AP) — Cleveland outfielder Lane Thomas was placed on the 10-day injured list because of plantar fasciitis in his right foot Friday before the Guardians' game against the Los Angeles Angels. The move is retroactive to Tuesday. The Guardians will fill the open roster spot before Saturday's game. Thomas has played in only 17 games this season and is batting .119 (7 for 59). He missed five weeks due to a right wrist bone bruise after getting hit by a pitch during the April 8 home opener against the Chicago White Sox. Cleveland acquired Thomas at the trade deadline last year. He had the go-ahead grand slam in the fifth and deciding game of the American League Division Series against Detroit. ___ AP MLB:

Tigers place rookie Jackson Jobe on 15-day IL with elbow injury
May 30 - Detroit Tigers rookie starting pitcher Jackson Jobe was placed on the 15-day injured list with a Grade 1 flexor strain, the team announced Friday. The move was retroactive to Thursday. Jobe mentioned some discomfort in his right throwing elbow after Wednesday's start against the San Francisco Giants. He threw 95 pitches in 4 2/3 innings -- allowing three runs on seven hits -- before being removed. "He reported that he had a little bit of soreness," Detroit manager AJ Hinch said on Friday. "So we took him immediately to get evaluated. When the test came back and the doctors read it, they discovered this flexor strain. "I try not to rush to any judgment until we see how his rest goes and see how his rehab goes. We'll listen to the doctors and the pitching coaches on that." The 22-year-old Jobe, the third overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, entered the 2025 season as one of the top prospects in baseball. Through 10 starts, he is 4-1 with a 4.22 ERA, 39 strikeouts and 27 walks in 49 innings. Right-handed reliever Dylan Smith was called up from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move. To make room for Smith on the 40-man roster, Alex Cobb was transferred to the 60-day DL. Jobe joins three other Tigers starting pitchers on the IL: Cobb (hip inflammation), Reese Olson (finger inflammation), and Sawyer Gipson-Long (elbow surgery). --Field Level Media
