Christie Brinkley, 71, looks radiant as she joins chic Uma Thurman, 55, at skin cancer gala in NYC after battling the disease last year
Christie Brinkley and Uma Thurman looked as glamorous as ever as they graced the red carpet in New York City on Wednesday. The model, 71, and the actress, 55, were on the east coast to attend the Skin Cancer Foundation's 2025 Champions for Change Gala at the swanky Ziegfeld Ballroom in Manhattan. Christie had a personal reason for attending the gala, having had skin cancer removed from her face last year. She looked happy and healthy as she it the red carpet in a chic black suit dress. The blonde beauty teamed her look with a pair of black and silver lined heels as she worked her angles on the red carpet. Meanwhile, Kill Bill star Uma sported an eye-catching golden jacket for her outing on the red carpet. The actress posed up a storm on her arrival in a pair of black velvet trousers and a matching blouse before layering her look with the dazzling jacket. Uma has spent much of her time in New York City in recent months while filming scenes for the new Dexter: Resurrection. The iconic actress is set to star as Head of Security Charley in the film, which has been brought back after Dexter was shot dead in the reboot. She will be joined on the cast by a host of stars, including Peter Dinklage and How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris, who will play a new character called Lowell. Krysten Ritter, Jack Alcott and James Remmar also make up the cast. Christie underwent surgery in early 2024 after being diagnosed with skin cancer when doctors found a 'basal cell carcinoma' on her face. Following the surgery, the model, who was once married to Billy Joel, shared graphic photos of the wound after the cancer was removed. Christie posed up a storm on the red carpet as she showed off her toned legs in the dress Kill Bill star Uma sported an eye-catching golden jacket for her outing The actress posed up a storm on her arrival in a pair of black velvet trousers and a matching blouse before layering her look with the dazzling jacket In a harrowing post on Instagram in March last year, she wrote: 'The good news for me is we caught the basal cell Carcinoma early. And I had great Doctors that removed the cancer and stitched me up to perfection like an haute couture Dior. 'The good news for you is that all of this can be avoided by being diligent with your sun protection! 'I got serious a bit late so now for this ole mermaid/gardener, I'll be slathering on my SPF 30, reapplying as needed, wearing long sleeves and a wide brim hat.' The star revealed she was diagnosed with cancer after accompanying one of her daughters to a routine check-up - where she asked a doctor to examine a 'tiny dot' on her face. She wrote: 'And doing regular total body check ups.. that is a MUST ! I was lucky to find mine, because I was accompanying one of my daughters to HER check up .. 'The Doctor was looking at each freckle with a magnifying glass… it wasn't my appointment so I wasn't going to say anything but at the VERY end I asked if he could just look at a little tiny dot I could feel as I applied my foundation. 'He took a look and knew immediately it needed a biopsy! He did it then and there! So make your own good luck by making that check up appointment today. And slather up my friends! 'Thank you to Dr. Abraham, Dr. Anolik, Dr Geronemus, Dr Lloyd Hoffman at the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York.' A year later, Christie is cancer-free and riding high on the success of her new Uptown Girl memoire, which landed on the New York Times bestsellers after its release last month. The model's new memoir is the third book she has released, after her 1983 fitness book and the later Timeless Beauty. Christie hopes readers can take something positive away from her experiences which she details in the new book. 'I just really hope people understand that the book is much more than rehashing divorces,' she explained. 'This is not a revenge novel It's filled with joy and when there are bad moments, it's sort of how to keep going and learn not to let them pull you down. 'And how to stay positive and maybe learn something from it or let it propel you into someplace that you didn't dare go before'. WHAT IS BASAL CELL CARCINOMA? Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is a type of non-melanoma skin cancer. Non-melanoma means it does not involve skin pigment cells. BCC makes up more than 80 per cent of all forms of skin cancer in the UK and US. About 5.4 million basal and squamous cell skin cancers are diagnosed each year in the US and around 100,000 in the UK. It is mainly caused by overexposure to UV light from the sun or tanning beds. BCC can occur anywhere on the body but is most common on areas exposed to the sun, such as the face, neck and ears. The following people are most at risk: People with fair skin or hair Those who work outdoors People who use sunbeds Those with a personal history of the condition BCC is usually painless. Early symptoms often only include a scab that bleeds occasionally and does not heal. Some appear as flat, red, scaly marks or have a pearl-like rim. The latter can then erode into a ulcer. Others are lumpy with shiny nodules crossed by blood vessels. Most BCCs can be cured, however, treatment is complex if they are left for a long time. Treatment usually involves removing the cancerous tumour and some of the surrounding skin.
