Review: BrewDog at Bluewaters Island Dubai
Founded in 2007 with a mission to make delicious craft beer, BrewDog now has more than 100 pubs around the world and has finally landed in Dubai to splash their considerable cash on a giant temple of hops on Bluewaters Island. Brewdog – exterior It's reported that BrewDog plan to open eight pubs in Dubai before 2030, and this 'industrial chic' outpost is the brand's impressive Middle East debut. Announcing their arrival with a loud woof, BrewDog has elbowed its way into a prime corner plot on the promenade under Ain Dubai. Fronted with a huge blue neon sign, BrewDog sprawls across two floors and gives patrons superb views of the city from its terraces. BREWDOG – Darts Visiting on a Wednesday night, we were greeted by a lively musical duo rattling through violin and guitar covers of pop hits. We suggest you keep moving however, past the augmented reality dartboards, to the more inviting bar upstairs and by 'inviting' we mean darker and quieter. Flop into a squishy Chesterfield booth and browse the 11 brews on the Daily Draft menu, which has intriguing tasting notes such as milkshake, hazy and mango. Prices range from Dhs50 for 500ml of BrewDog's crisp and clean Lost Lager to Dhs63 for 330ml of their cult Elvis Juice, a punchy grapefruit IPA. There's no standing on ceremony at BrewDog, service is swift yet friendly. This place is about delivering glasses of quality craft hops to thirsty guests and then letting them get on with it. For a 360 tour of the BrewDog universe, order a flight of any four beers for Dhs125 in stemmed glasses that measure a third of a pint. It may not be your most economical decision of the evening but it allows you to explore the variety of zingy flavours that have made BrewDog a global phenomenon. Putting our glasses down for a moment, BrewDog also does food. A quintet of sublime chicken wings (Dhs55) and a pizza named The Big Pastrami One (Dhs95) paired wonderfully with a pint of Punk IPA described as spiky, bitter and tropical in its tasting notes. Following the likes of Tap House (Downtown, Palm, Dubai Hills) and Goose Island (JBR and JVC), BrewDog continues the city's welcome trend for craft beer pubs that offer guests a wide range of hops far more interesting than the usual mainstream brands. Carry on like this, and BrewDog's billionaire founders will continue to see the cash pour in. BrewDog, Bluewaters Island, Sun to Thur 12pm to 12am, Fri and Sat 12pm to 2am. Tel: 052 956 5688. @brewdogbluewaters WHAT'S ON Verdict: BrewDog is a tail-wagging addition to Dubai's growing craft beer scene. 7 Dubai Metro hacks every Dubai resident should know
An impressive 275.4m rides were taken on the Dubai Metro last year, so chances are you've used it once or twice before. But the question is, are you getting the most out of the Metro? To make your life easier, we've shared some of the top Dubai Metro hacks to make your journey better than ever. If you like this: Your complete guide to the Dubai Metro: Timings, fares, routes and stations From the best seats in the house to the 30-minute rule, here are the tips you need to know. 7 Dubai Metro hacks to try on your next journey 1) Don't forget the minimum amount on your nol card (Credit: Supplied) Commuters should have a minimum of Dhs15 on their nol card when using the Metro to cover a round trip. If you haven't got this balance you won't get through the barrier so be sure to top it up before you start queuing. One-way fares range from Dhs3 to Dhs15 depending on area zones and the class you choose. If you're topping up at the machine, the minimum amount you can add is Dhs50, however you can add less if you top-up online. 2) Look out for some cool station features Dubai always takes things to the next level, so you shouldn't be surprised that some of its metro stations do far more than let people on and off the carriages. From awesome artworks to juice stations, co-working spaces and lots more, it's great to learn which stations hold some of these, so you can pop by next time you're in the area. To find out what you can find beside a ticket booth or two, check out our full list here. 3) Pick out the best spot If you're travelling outside of peak-time hours, or get on at the right spot, you might just be able to choose your seat or where you stand in the carriage. If you're heading in the direction of centrepoint from Expo 2020, aim to sit on the right side at the window. If you do, you'll get some stunning views of Burj Khalifa and Museum of The Future as you trundle past. Or for a Burj Al Arab and sea view, choose the left side. 4) Remember the 30-minute rule (Credit: Dubai Media Office) Dubai's public transport system is all focussed around complete end to end journeys, meaning that you can actually use the Metro and a another form of public transport as one trip. For example, you could travel on the metro then hop on the bus or tram, but it has to be done within 30 minutes of leaving the metro to count as one trip. If you do this on time, your trip will only be charged as a single journey (you will be charged based on the total number of zones passed in the two trips combined). 5) Redeem the rewards from your nol card The payment card that gives you access to all of the city's public transport, there are a few different types to choose from. However, these tiny rectangles of plastic do more than just beep as you pass through the Dubai Metro gates. There's actually a range of benefits you can unlock just by picking one up. From using it to pay in restaurants to special discounts, you can find the full list of nol card benefits here. 6) There's free Wi-Fi The Dubai Metro has free WiFi at all stations, meaning if you're running low on data you can still watch Time Out Dubai's latest reels while you wait for your train. If you're continuing your journey on another more of transport, you should also note that a total of 21 public bus stations and 22 marine transport stations also have this feature. 7) You can take an e-scooter (but only like this) If you're continuing on your journey elsewhere post metro ride, then you might want to carry your own e-scooter with you. After previously being banned, it's worth noting that you can take an e-scooter on board, but it needs to follow certain requirements. However, they must fit into the new 120cm x 70cm x 40cm requirements, meaning they will be foldable and come without a seat. The scooters must also weigh less than 20kg to be allowed on the metro. You will also not be allowed to charge your e-scooter in a Dubai Metro station, and cannot bring it inside if it is wet or dirty. Apartment prices in Dubai are up nearly 20% – here's what's happening
If you're apartment hunting, renewing your lease, or just browsing through property finder websites like it's a hobby, you've probably noticed: apartment prices in Dubai are seriously up. According to the latest report by ValuStrat, prices across the city have risen almost a fifth in the last 12 months – with some neighbourhoods pushing past their all-time highs. Here's a breakdown of what's going on: Apartments are hot right now According to ValuStrat's June market report, apartment prices in Dubai rose by 1.1% last month – and are now nearly 20% higher than they were this time last year. The Greens saw the biggest annual jump at 24.4%, followed by Dubai Silicon Oasis, Dubailand Residence Complex, and (of course) Palm Jumeirah. Even International City and Business Bay saw solid gains. Not massive, but still moving up. Villas? Even pricier Villa prices saw an even steeper rise – up 28.7% year-on-year. Jumeirah Islands led the charge with a whopping 41.1% jump, followed closely by Palm Jumeirah, Emirates Hills, and The Meadows. On average, Dubai's villas are now worth 180% more than they were post-2020. Off-plan is where the action is Off-plan sales made up a massive 73.4% of all residential transactions in June, even though monthly registrations dipped slightly. JVC, Dubai Investment Park Second, and Uptown Motorcity were some of the busiest areas for off-plan activity. Luxury deals? Still rolling in Yes, people are still buying homes for over Dhs30 million – 40 of them in June alone, with 15 topping the Dhs50 million mark. Prime areas include DIFC, Palm Jumeirah, and Dubai Hills Estate. Ready homes? Still moving Secondary sales have slowed slightly, down 14.3 per cent since May, but they're still 11 per cent higher year-on-year. JVC, Business Bay, and Dubai Marina continue to be popular spots for ready-to-move-in buyers. > Sign up for FREE to get exclusive updates that you are interested in
