Can you really get a fine for having a dirty car in Abu Dhabi?

We've all been there. Your car is looking a little dusty but you just haven't got round to getting it washed. But can you actually get fined for it in Abu Dhabi? The short answer is yes, you can. In the capital, leaving your car covered in excessive dirt for too long could land you with a fine – so maybe it's time to give your wheels a wash. While a little dusting won't get you in any trouble, the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) isn't playing around when it comes to keeping the city's streets looking sharp. Under Law No. 2 of 2012, vehicles that are left abandoned or excessively dirty are considered a blight on the cityscape and owners can be slapped with penalties. Here's the breakdown: Clause No. 62 – Leaving a vehicle dirty in a public place and ruining the city's pristine look? That's a Dhs500 fine for the first offence. Get caught again and it's Dhs1,000. A third violation? Dhs2,000. So, unless you fancy paying for a high-end car wash in fines, it's best to keep your ride sparkling. Clause No. 63 – If you've got a car body or frame abandoned in a public spot, that's an even bigger problem. The fines start at Dhs1,000, jump to Dhs2,000 for the second offence, and hit Dhs4,000 if you keep ignoring the warnings. Moral of the story? Whether you drive a flashy sports car or a humble hatchback, keeping it clean isn't just about aesthetics. So, grab a sponge or hit the car wash before your extra dusty ride gets you into trouble. 6 ways to support Dubai delivery drivers during peak summer heat

Dubai summer has settled in, bringing with it scorching temperatures that can sometimes brush 50 degrees Celsius. That combined with the humidity leaves most sticking to indoor activities, and avoiding being out in the hottest hours. The same can't be said forever for Dubai's delivery drivers however, who work tirelessly to make sure you have everything you need brought to your home. You might also like: This is exactly when Dubai summer will end this year, according to experts Travelling around Dubai in the summer, it's important we all do our bit to support delivery workers, restaurants and shops while they tackle the heat. So here's what's being done to help Dubai delivery drivers this year, and what you can do to get involved. How you can support Dubai delivery drivers You can do your part to help drivers too (Credit: Supplied) If you're using Dubai delivery drivers' services this summer, here are some suggestions of a few things you can do at home to help them out: Have some water bottles in the house that you can offer out, or leave outside your front door. Have some small sweets or snacks at home that you can offer to drivers when they arrive with your delivery. Be polite and treat drivers with respect. Don't leave them waiting outside for a long period of time. Make sure you are contactable if they cannot reach you or find your address. Be mindful of the time you are ordering items (for example, are you ordering in the midday heat?) How the city is supporting Dubai delivery drivers Credit: RTA) In 2023, the RTA announced that a series of 40 rest areas would be constructed around Dubai so delivery drivers could escape the heat for a period of time. When on a break or between jobs, the drivers can take a seat in the air-conditioned spaces and cool down. As of July 2024, three new water dispensers have also been added which turn Dubai's humid air into clean drinking water for the drivers. Now in July 2025, UAE Zone Delivery Services launched the campaign, 'Beat The Heat with Zone Delivery Services' to help hard-working delivery drivers cool off. The initiative offers free ice cream and juices to riders across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and other cities in the UAE, regardless of which delivery company they work for.
