Days of Our Lives Recap: Philip and Xander Agree to Avoid Mutually Assured Destruction originally appeared on Daytime Confidential. On today's Days of Our Lives recap: Marlena and John's Penthouse: Marlena walks through her house alone. She says she can't be around anymore death. With that, she grabs flowers from a vase and throws them across the room. Marlena crosses to the cabinet and pulls out John's Yankee cap. She smells it and begins to cry. DiMera Mansion – Living Room: EJ opens a Happy Father's Day card from Sydney. Flashback: Johnny tells EJ he's dead to him. Later, he walks in and holds a gun on his father. Johnny and Chanel's Place: The couple are unpacking when he sees a wrapped gift. He thinks it's for his birthday, but Chanel says it was supposed to be his first Father's Day gift. He says they should keep the gift as someday she will have a reason to give it to him. Chanel pulls out Johnny's gold watch and says he is now all ready for his first day at Titan/DiMera. He wonders if she has time to grab a bite but she says she has to head to work. They kiss and he makes his exit. Chanel immediately makes a call to Felicity and says she won't be in to Sweet Bits until later in the day. EJ arrives and tells Johnny he is sorry about John. They talk a bit about John's legacy and how much EJ thinks he's like his grandfather. He also apologizes for trying to force his son to forgive him. EJ is there to set him free and promises, after tonight, they never have to see each other again. EJ takes Johnny by the shoulders and says he loves him with all his heart. Sometimes loving someone means letting them go. He asks his son if that's what he wants, and Johnny says he doesn't know. Johnny says he hates EJ for what he did to his mother. That being said, he can't deny he's been a good father. Johnny says he's always known he is important to his father and EJ says he would do anything for him. Johnny doesn't know if he can handle losing anyone else. EJ tells him to think everything over and promises to accept his decision. Salem PD – Jada's Office: Rafe arrives just after Jada hangs up with an irate Kate. She asks about FBI training, and he says he's great and ready to get back in the field. He'll be working through the Chicago office, so he'll be able to remain in Salem. Jada asks why he's there and he says he's learned some information about the shooting of EJ DiMera. Jada is surprised to learn Rafe planted a camera in EJ's living room. She asks why she's just now learning about it. EJ says the memory card was stolen and he has no clue how or when. Jada agrees to overlook the pesky B&E and get to work on locating the memory card. Jada and Rafe go through the possible suspects. She starts with Gabi and then they move to Leo, neither of which Rafe thinks are responsible. They effectively eliminate anyone in the Hernandez house and they shift their focus to the DiMera mansion. University Hospital – Philip's Room: Belle brings Philip a smoothie and wants to go over his statement. He says he already told Jada everything. She notes she is his friend and wants to help him get justice. Philip repeats he never saw his attacker. Belle can't understand why a stranger would attack him. She doesn't believe a single word he is saying. Philip is stunned to learn John died. He says Bo and Hope visited him before they left town. Philip freaks out because if he had made it to the drop with Kevin and his actions caused this entire mess. Belle says everything was an accident, but his assault was not. Philiip continues to stick to his story. Belle says she's going to find the truth and makes her exit. Belle reminds Philip she knows why Xander had motive to assault him. Philip gets it but says it wasn't Xander. Belle goes along with it saying maybe he hired someone to do it. She wonders if he said he would keep quiet about Philip's crimes if he remains silent about the assault. Belle implores him to tell the truth as she can't lose another person she loves. University Hospital – Exam Room: Xander tells Sarah the police have dropped all the charges against him. He is looking for an apology because she was dead wrong. Sarah says she's not apologizing as she still believes Xander beat Philip within an inch of his life. She notes he's never once denied being the culprit. Further, Philip would be getting himself in hot water by admitting the truth. Sarah tells Xander they won't be reuniting. He says it was never his intention to reunite. They both agree they can't trust each other. Xander says they need to revisit their custody agreement as he no longer has assault charges hanging over his head. He wants joint custody, but Sarah says she will never agree to that. Xander concludes they will have to do this the hard way and makes his exit. University Hospital – Lobby: Chanel runs into Paulina who is there for her yearly physical. Chanel congratulates her mother on her wedding anniversary. Paulina asks why Chanel is there. She says she is having a follow up appointment to her cancer surgery. Further, she wanted to ask Sarah if it was ok to start trying for a baby. Chanel didn't want to ask Johnny so as not to worry him. Paulina thinks she's making a mistake, but Chanel heads off to her appointment alone. Marlena and John's Penthouse: Belle arrives home and finds her mother in tears. The two embrace and Malena tells her about the baseball cap. Belle thinks she should work remotely the rest of the day, but Marlena wants her to go back to the office. Belle says nothing is more important than her. Marlena asks how Belle is doing, and they both admit the quiet moments are difficult for both of them. She asks about EJ and Belle says she's been having second thoughts about EJ who is allowing her space to work through her feelings. Belle wants to honor her father as she knows he wouldn't approve of their relationship. Marlena says Belle has to live her own life despite what she or John might think. Marlena tells Belle to head back to work. When they rise, she loses her balance. Belle wants to take her to the hospital, but Marlena says she's all good. With that, they embrace, and Belle exits. University Hospital – Philip's Room: Xander thanks Philip for making the right choice in keeping his name out of his statement. Philip said he didn't have much choice after what happened when he woke up. Flashback: Xander is about to put the pillow over Philip's face when he awakens. Xander says the police are going to come question him. Philip says Xander attacked him. Xander sets him straight saying he won't tell the police anything or he will lose his inheritance and stake in Titan/DiMera. University Hospital – Exam Room: Sarah tells Chanel her cancer screening is clear but wants her to wait to get pregnant. She doesn't want to risk a recurrence of the cancer right now. Chanel asks for a timeline and Sarah says it could be months or longer. Sarah knows her words are hard to swallow but says waiting will help ensure a healthy pregnancy. In real-time, Xander says they have to find a way to make their relationship work or they will both lose everything. Philip isn't certain they can possibly work together. Xander takes a seat and says how sorry he is for the assault. He was so furious and explains about the drug acquisition and Sarah's anaphylactic shock. All of it came together to lead him to something he deeply regrets. Philip senses Xander is sincere and apologizes for outing Sarah's part in the cover up. Xander says he's glad Philip told him but says Sarah doesn't know he's the one who exposed her. He says no one can ever know what happened in that hotel room. University Hospital – Lobby: Chanel tells Paulina about the positive bloodwork but then shares the disappointing news about not getting pregnant yet. They chat a bit more before Chanel makes a quick exit to get to work. Endings Marlena stumbles again on her way to the bedroom and lands on the arm of a chair. She looks at a picture of her and John before calling Sarah. Sarah examines Philip who says he's getting stronger by the day. She asks if he was the one who told Xander about her involvement in the cover up. Philip denies the truth and says how sorry he is to learn the truth was revealed. Xander runs into Paulina and says he is planning to contest the decision of the hospital board. He wants to know if he can count on Abe's support. Paulina tells him to focus on what's important, his wife and daughter. Johnny calls in saying he's going to be late. Just then, Chanel returns. He explains what happened with his father. Chanel is thrilled to hear EJ is willing to get gone but Johnny informs her that he's not so sure he wants to completely divorce himself. Chanel is none too thrilled with this turn of events. Rafe and Jada agree someone took the memory card before he snatched it back after the shooting. They admit there are dozens of suspects but are glad to be on the right track. Jada hopes working together in this way means someday they might be friends. EJ is playing chess when Belle arrives and tells him that she needs to follow her heart. Days of Our Lives Recap: Gabi and Alex Go on Their $15,000 Date
On today's Days of Our Lives recap: DiMera Mansion – Living Room: EJ and Belle are kissing on the sofa when Rachel walks in and yells at them to stop. Kristen joins and says they shouldn't be engaging in tawdry behavior in a public space. Just then, Brady arrives to join Rachel's birthday festivities. They are all dressed up as Alice in Wonderland characters and EJ and Belle agree to stick around. Rachel heads to the kitchen and Belle asks why there are no children. Brady says she hasn't made any friends. EJ and Brady make snarky comments. Their conversation moves along to EJ offering to buy the hospital and needing the board's approval. Brady isn't thrilled with the idea and remembers all the ways he has hurt their family. He goes on to mention that Xander put in a bid, as well. He thinks the hospital should choose the lesser of two evils. Kristen counters saying if Brady votes for EJ maybe he can do something for them, like tell her the location of her mother. EJ says there is no way he would admit to kidnapping Kristen's mother. She says she has guardianship over her mother and wouldn't let her testify. Belle decides discussion of such illegal activities is her cue to exit. She tells everyone to behave and hits the door. Kristen changes tactics and asks if EJ will exonerate her of his shooting if Brady votes for him. EJ isn't thrilled with the option and refuses. He doesn't really know Kristen didn't shoot him as he doesn't remember anything. Kristen says Brady will not be voting for him. Brady, who is standing RIGHT THERE, says he will be using his conscience to make a decision (I think he would have to recuse himself since he works for Titan). Just then, Rachel returns and asks about Belle. She is less than thrilled when she learns her aunt made her exit. University Hospital – Kayla's Office: Kayla is awaiting Steve's call when Xander arrives to ask if he can make his pitch to the hospital board at the same time as EJ. Kayla agrees but wonders why he is so eager to buy the hospital. He says he gets to save everyone's jobs which leads Kayla to specifically ask about the Sepsis drug. She assumes the drug is the reason he and EJ are in a bidding war for the hospital. Kayla says she will only vote for him if he promises to be a force for good with the very important drug and Xander agrees. Belle arrives (Xander is gone) to ask a favor for EJ. She knows her niece is there to advocate for EJ's bid to buy the hospital. Kayla questions his motives and Belle says he simply wants to use his new lease on life to become a better person. What other reason could he have to risk that much money. Kayla mentions the Sepsis drug and Belle has no clue. Kayla explains about the drug and how it could make Xander or EJ very rich. She knows Belle wants to believe the best in EJ. Belle says she believes he has but isn't so naïve as to have no doubts. She asks her aunt to keep an open mind and makes her exit. The Bistro: Philip and Kevin meet up to catch up. Philip knows he is working in a local lab and Kevin says he is working for Dr Russell. He hates it and really wants to work at Titan. Philip thinks they can help each other out. Philip says the hospital is in shambles but if Titan can get it's hands on the formula for Dr Russell's formula, they can get it to market sooner whilst also saving the hospital. Kevin thinks there has to be a monetary goal, but Philip makes mention of Bo's condition. Kevin says he can't help as Dr Russell is paranoid. Everyone who works in the lab only knows one component of the formula. In addition, it takes months to make new batches. Philip asks if they could possibly snatch a few samples. Philip says he will bring Kevin on at Titan if he helps him steal the drug. Kevin pretends to contemplate the offer before Philip toasts to their future collaboration and rekindling a beautiful friendship. Hernandez House: Gabi is ready for her date with Alex when she gets a call from Arianna Grace. She learns her daughter needs money and asks if she's in trouble. Arianna G says she wants to return to Salem. She agrees to send the money that evening when a knock on the door ends their call. She opens the door to find Alex has arrived ready for their date. She asks where they are going and he says they are headed to The Bistro. Gabi is annoyed at the basic level of his efforts. Alex says they are supposed to be going out for a good cause. Gabi admits she only bought the date to make JJ jealous, and she backs down. He apologizes for being snarky and she notes he didn't accuse her of shooting EJ. Without prompting, she says she didn't and Alex says she wouldn't care if she did. They agree to have a pleasant evening and are on their way (decent chemistry here). The Bistro: Alex and Gabi arrive and notice Philip and Kevin at the other table. They decide to head over, and Philip introduces Kevin. With that, Philip quickly makes his exit leaving a confused Kevin behind to head to the bar. Gabi and Alex sit back down and talk about family, leading Gabi to say Arianna Grace is coming home. Alex says he talked to Sonny recently but they didn't mention anything. She is over the moon about her daughter's return. Gabi and Alex enjoy their time together even though they would both rather be having dinner with someone else. Alex suggest they give JJ a call but she isn't down quite yet. Gabi says she enjoys talking to him as friends and wouldn't mind doing it again if he's up for it. Alex agrees and asks to let him know when she's ready to pony up another 15k. DiMera Mansion – Living Room: Rachel's Alice in Wonderland birthday party begins and Brady passes out presents, starting with Tate's. Rachel says soon it will be Tate's baby's birthday and then remembers Johnny and Chanel will be its parents. Brady steps in saying they've decided not to adopt the baby, which causes EJ to drop his tea cup. Rachel asks if he is ok and reminds her uncle he still has other family, like her mommy. She moves on to say her mommy didn't shoot him. EJ very directly says he doesn't know who shot him which means the culprit could still be at large. Kristen and Brady swoop in to mute the impact of EJ's words. Rachel suddenly begins to yawn and says she wants to go to bed (Hmmmm…). They are all surprised and Kristen says she'll be up soon to tuck her in. Titan/DiMera: Philip arrives and is surprised to find Xander. He explains Sarah is in the hospital, but everything is ok. Philip says he is happy to take the lead on things like the hospital purchase if he wants to spend time with Sarah. Xander explains about the hospital purchase and hopes Philip hasn't done anything stupid. Endings Gabi is shopping overtime for Arianna Grace when she runs into Belle. Gabi tells her Arianna G will be headed home soon for an open-ended visit. Kristen is cleaning up and getting frustrated with EJ. She accidentally knocked over a tray which makes a loud noise, clearly startling her brother. Suddenly, Rachel screams and comes running down the stairs saying she had a nightmare where she heard a gunshot. Kristen says she made the noise and embraces her daughter. In the other room, EJ has a bit of a panic attack as he remembers the shot from that fateful evening. Alex arrives at Titan/DiMera and catches up with Xander about Sarah. They talk about their pitch to the board and Alex is glad Xander is in the driver's seat. Philip calls Kevin and apologizes for quick exit. Kevin says their plan will commence more quickly than anticipated as Dr Russell gave everyone the weekend off. Philip is on board to help save Bo. That being said, he thinks they have to take the risk to involve Kayla. With that, Steve makes his exit. Johnny arrives and learns about Bo's condition from Shawn Douglas. He says they don't have any treatment and his father's prognosis is dire. They shift topics and Shawn D asks about EJ and Johnny says it was touch and go for a while but now he's better. Shawn D pushes about the strained nature of their relationship. Johnny says everything he learned messed with his head which led him to turn down the opportunity to adopt Tate and Sophia's baby. He fills Shawn D in on the rest of the situation, including his most recent run-in with his wife. Shawn D encourages Johnny to give Chanel some time. University Hospital – Kayla's Office: Dr. Russell returns to revisit their earlier conversation about the sepsis drug. He says his position hasn't changed but she has a different argument. Chad tells EJ he couldn't be happy with Cat as it's all too complicated. EJ wants to gift him the date he bought with her. Chad asks about his sudden generosity and EJ notes how changed he is since his coma. Chad thanks his brother for the offer but can't accept it as he doesn't want to give Cat the wrong impression. EJ thinks it's the perfect setup to test the waters. Chanel says she isn't ready to forgive her husband. Johnny really hurt her and needs more time and space before she's ready for him to come home. Johnny asks if there is hope and swears, he will put in the work to save their marriage. Steve returns to Kayla's empty office, heads over to the desk and reads the files that will help him and Shawn Douglas break into Dr. Russell's office. Dr. Russell takes a call and says all their plans for the sepsis drug are about to go up in smoke. On the other end of the line, EJ says not to worry as he has a plan. Days of Our Lives Recap: Xander and EJ Unknowingly Compete to Purchase University Hospital
On today's Days of Our Lives recap: DiMera Mansion – Living Room: EJ and Dr Russell chat about his difficulties with getting out of his contract with the hospital. EJ says all will be good as his going to Kayla covers both of their backsides. It also keeps Kayla from realizing they are working together. Dr Russell worries about the hospital and his research going under. EJ assures him the hospital will not be going under as he is going to bank roll it. Dr Russell inquires, and EJ blatantly says he is going to buy University Hospital. Once his drug is approved, the hospital will be fully profitable and they will both be seen as heroes. Horton Square: Stephanie runs into Philip. He says he's on the way to see Roman to get an update on Bo. Stephanie can't go as her parents are waiting on her at home. She also wants to avoid the inevitable celebration he and Kate will have since they realized all of their hopes and dreams. Philip explains Xander kicked him out of the house but not the company. Stephanie gets sarcastic when saying she's glad he can enjoy the spoils of his victory. Philip asks if she is going to spread the word. Stephanie admits she would LOVE to tell Chad everything about Philip's scheme and have it splashed across the front page but will resist the temptation. She says she isn't protecting Philip, only Sarah. Before she can exit, Philip says he is sorry. Stephanie doesn't understand and Philip explains he's sorry for lying, compromising her integrity and treating her like an afterthought for months. She asks why it was so important for him to do what he did. Philip says he wasn't trying to deny Xander his share of Titan but he says that wasn't his intention. He wanted to prove to his father that he was worthy of his consideration. Stephanie understands his motivations as they are very human. She says there are a lot of hurt feelings between them but she would like to think they will eventually be able to move forward. With that, they part ways. Kiriakis Mansion: Xander and Alex are discussing the pharmaceutical company owned by DiMera Enterprises. Alex says they are sitting on a goldmine. He has found the breakthrough drug they need to make all of the money. Alex found DiMera was looking for a cure for sepsis, which is specifically relevant for Xander's brother Bo. Xander tells Alex to direct the company to go full force towards creating the drug. Alex says there is one catch as someone might be beating them to the punch. Alex says research at University Hospital is competing with them to get the drug to market. Xander congratulates Alex on his work and sends him off to take the night for himself. Alex promises Xander will not regret giving him a second chance. Brady Pub: Shawn Douglas and Belle run into each other and chat a bit about Bo (and we get a Claire Bear mention!). Belle believes Bo won't give up without a fight and Shawn D says neither will he. Shawn D knows Belle can relate and they chat a bit about the search for John. University Hospital – Kayla's Office: Steve arrives and comforts Kayla about Bo's condition. She says if they are going to steal the drug to save his life it has to happen now. Steve says they should quiet this stealing talk down in public (smart man). Kayla says she knows she's going to be implicated if Steve and Shawn D are caught. Steve is concerned about the risks and Kayla agrees. That being said, it could save Bo's life. Kayla tells him to steal one dose so, perhaps, no will notice. Just then, Sarah arrives and Steve makes his exit. Sarah asks if there is anything she can take off her plate so Kayla can call it a night. She says if it would help to save the hospital money, she is willing to skip her conference in Chicago. Sarah gets to the real point and says she actually wants to skip the conference and spend it at a cabin with her husband and child. She isn't sure Kayla can find anyone who will be able to take her place… Kayla tells Sarah to spend the weekend with her family, and she will figure out someone who is more research focused to send. Sarah hugs her boss and makes her exit. Dr Russell returns and Kayla says she wanted to show him there were no hard feelings by throwing an opportunity his way. She gives him the opportunity to go to the Chicago research conference. Dr Russell says he isn't great with people skills and thinks he is the wrong person to represent the hospital. Kayla pushes just as EJ arrives on the scene and she sends Dr Russell on his way. Kayla inquires about EJ's intentions and he says he wants to be the hospital's savior. Kiriakis Mansion: Sarah returns and asks Xander what she is reading. He tells her a bit about the pharmaceuticals and asks what she knows about sepsis. She brings up Bo and asks for more details about the diagnosis. Sarah gives him some information and says the mortality rates are very high. Xander gets very specific and asks about any research going on at University Hospital. Sarah switches topics and says she got out of her conference and booked them a cabin on Lake Geneva for the weekend. He inquires as to why and Sarah says they need to get away. Xander pushes back but Sarah thinks surely Alex can watch Philip for a weekend. Sarah does a little sexual convincing which seems to push him over the edge. Xander is now relaxing with cucumbers on his eyes after Sarah returns from putting Victoria down. He still isn't convinced of a spa weekend and wonders why the getaway is so important to her. Sarah explains how difficult the last few months have been. She thinks they both need a break from everything. Xander agrees and says they are alone tonight allowing him to give her a taste of their weekend. Brady Pub: Steve meets up with Shawn Douglas and says Kayla is on board and thinks they need to move quickly. Shawn D is ready to go but Steve says they have to hold off until they figure out Dr Russell's schedule. Horton Square: Belle runs into Philip, and he updates her on remaining as co-CEO of Titan. Belle can't believe it but he explains legal thought it would be too big of a mess to let his fraud go public. He goes on to say he looped Justin in, who was very disappointed in him, as well as Maggie. Philip hates disappointing everyone and realizes he must be Victor's son. The person he feels most guilty about hurting is Xander because they actually were starting to feel like brothers. Stephanie's Place: Stephanie and Alex arrive home, and he surprises her with candles all over the bedroom (how did he make that happen?). He has set up a movie night for his beloved with popcorn and wine. They discuss what they will be watching and she suggests something a little sexier. Alex mentions he found her manuscript. Stephanie is embarrassed but Alex says her writing is amazing and he can't wait to finish it. She says it's a romance novel, but he notes how graphic it is. Stephanie begins to blush, but Alex thinks it's great she has written a steamy affair. He is excited to know more about her inner most fantasies and desires. With that, they decide to act out a few chapters. Philip thinks her insights are poignant and takes the opportunity to ask that she not spread the word of his fraud. Belle says he is covered under attorney client privilege but also because they are friends. She tells him to keep his nose clean but to also watch his back because he has pissed off all kinds of folks. With that, she exits. Steve says they have to be careful so as not to endanger the future of a drug which could help millions, as Bo would think the same. Shawn Douglas agrees but also reiterates they have to hurry. Kayla wonders from whence EJ's generosity came. He talks a bit about the care he got that saved his life. EJ, perhaps, wants to give back to those who saved him. He asks Kayla if she will help him save the hospital by purchasing it. Kayla isn't convinced and says it's a hard pass. She knows he could solve all the hospital's problems, but experience tells her there are always strings attached. Kayla says the fundraiser gave the hospital enough wiggle room to avoid a ridiculous offer. EJ says he will go over her head but Kayla is certain her influence with the board will have more sway. EJ winces as he stands and says she will soon come crawling back. With that, he exits. Stephanie and Alex sleep in their afterglow as he hears his phone buzzing. He extracts himself from her embrace and answers Xander's call. Xander says he has a plan that will save University Hospital, Sarah's job and allow them to get their hands of the drug.
