Morgan Wallen, Kendrick Lamar Top Midyear Album, Song Sales
Morgan Wallen's I'm The Problem was the biggest album in the U.S. through the first half of 2025, and Kendrick Lamar and SZA had the biggest song with 'Luther,' Luminate reported in its 2025 Midyear Report published Wednesday morning. Since its release in May, I'm The Problem has already amassed 2.562 million equivalent units, per Luminate, buoyed most directly by over 2.9 billion streams, while also amassing about 200,000 album sales and another 250,000 song sales. SZA's SOS, which has enjoyed a significant boost since she released her deluxe Lana reissue of the album at the end of last year, was the second-biggest album in the U.S. at the midyear with about 1.711 million equivalent units. Kendrick Lamar's GNX came in third with just over 1.7 million, Bad Bunny's Debí Tirar Más Fotos took fourth with 1.65 million, and Sabrina Carpenter's 2024 Short n' Sweet rounded out the Top Five with over 1.3 million. 'Luther' is the undisputed Number One, racking up over 3.9 million units on over 530 million streams, and Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars' 'Die With a Smile' took second with 3.1 million units. Lamar's 'Not Like Us' and 'TV Off' took third and fourth, and Wallen's 'I'm The Problem' rounded out the top five with 2.5 million units. Globally, 'Die With a Smile' came in first with 1.9 billion streams, Rosé and Mars' 'APT' with over 1.6 billion streams, Billie Eilish's 'Birds of a Feather' is number three with over 1.3 billion streams, 'Luther' took fourth with over 1.2 billion streams and Bad Bunny's 'DtMF' was in fifth with over 1.1 billion. Overall, global streams rose about 10 percent at the midyear 2025 compared to last year, up to about 2.5 trillion streams. Streaming accounted for 92 percent of all music consumption in the U.S., Luminate said. Physical album sales fell slightly by 3 percent in the first half of the year, though excluding Swift's massive sales from last year, album sales grew 5.5 percent. In order, the top 10 most-popular genres in the U.S. are as follows: R&B/Hip-Hop, rock, pop, country, Latin, dance/electronic, Christian/gospel, world music, children, and classical. Per Luminate, the highest-growth Genres in the first half of the year were rock, latin, country, Christian/gospel and Blues, the latter of which saw a bump because of the soundtrack to Sinners. Groups like Sleep Token and Ghost, who both managed to top Billboard's 200 Albums Chart this year, reflect growth in hard rock in particular. According to Luminate, 69 percent of hard rock listeners are men and 35 percent of them are millenial. Hard rock progenitors Led Zeppelin had the top music documentary in the first half of the year with Becoming Led Zeppelin, which Luminate said helped drive a 23 percent bump in their streaming numbers. 'This report identifies numerous opportunities for continued diversification and growth across the industry. For example, the evolving interplay of generations, genres and growth is clearly demonstrated by the resurgence of the Christian/Gospel genre,' Luminate CEO Rob Jonas said in a statement. 'This multifaceted trend is fueled by its artistic evolution, enhanced accessibility through digital platforms, influence of modern worship movements, rise of powerful subgenres such as Christian Hip-Hop and a growing consumer demand for authentic content.' Louis Tomlinson Sparks ‘Larry' Buzz After Liking and Unliking Romance Reel With One Direction Bandmate Harry Styles
Louis Tomlinson is once again at the center of One Direction romance rumors, this time because of a single Instagram tap. On June 29, the singer liked an Instagram reel that featured a clip of him and his former bandmate, Harry Styles. The reel was an emotional fan edit set to the song Die With a Smile. However, just a few hours later, fans noticed that Louis had unliked the video, sparking a fresh debate about what it could mean. The like did not go unnoticed by the One Direction fandom, where theories about Louis and Harry's bond have never really disappeared. For years, fans have speculated that the singers share more than friendship, coining the nickname 'Larry.' The moment Louis removed the like, social media erupted with posts asking if it was an accident, a joke, or a slip that he quickly wanted to undo. For some, it's proof he still keeps an eye on fan edits, while others say it's a sign he wants to put old rumors to rest. Here's what Louis has said before about Harry romance rumors This isn't the first time Louis has addressed talk about a supposed romance with Harry Styles. In April 2024, Louis spoke with Brazilian outlet G1, calling the rumors a little irritating. He told the outlet, "There's nothing I can say to stop people inventing what they want to invent." He also shared that the speculation sometimes goes "far too personal", especially because he now has a young son, Freddie. Louis Tomlinson made it clear that he has little control over what fans choose to believe, but he wished people would respect his privacy. For now, Louis hasn't made any public comment about the 'like' and 'unlike' features. However, this small online action is already gaining traction among One Direction fans. Some see it as just another example of how every move he makes online is picked apart for clues about his relationship with Harry. Others think it's just an honest mistake.

Lady Gaga's New Single Matches Her Career-Starting Smash
Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars' 'Die With a Smile' earns a forty-first week on the Hot 100, passing 'Poker ... More Face' to become her third-longest-charting hit. SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE — Episode 1878 — Pictured: Host and musical guest Lady Gaga during the monologue on Saturday, March 8, 2025 — (Photo by: Will Heath/NBC via Getty Images) Lady Gaga proved she was no one-hit wonder when she first broke out, scoring back-to-back No. 1 hits on the Hot 100. "Just Dance," her collaboration with then-rising musician Colby O'Donis, rocketed her to the top spot immediately. She followed it up quickly with "Poker Face," another champion. Both tracks remain among the most popular in a discography packed with pop smashes, and they rank as some of her longest-charting successes on the Hot 100. Now, one of them has been bested by one of Gaga's most recent singles, one which sounds absolutely nothing like its predecessors. Last week, "Poker Face" was tied with "Die With a Smile" in Gaga's discography as her third-longest-running success on the Hot 100. Both tunes had managed to find space on the roster of the most consumed songs in America for 40 weeks, but that tie has now been broken. "Die With a Smile," Gaga's duet with Bruno Mars, holds on and earns a forty-first stay on the tally. Now, it stands alone as her third-longest-charting Hot 100 win, while "Poker Face" has been bumped slightly to fourth. It will be about a month before "Die With a Smile" is able to advance again. "Shallow," Gaga's Oscar-winning track with Bradley Cooper, spent 45 weeks on the Hot 100. "Die With a Smile" will need to remain on the tally for yet another month after that before reaching the heights of "Just Dance," which lived on the list for 49 frames and ranks as Gaga's longest-charting release. While eight more frames on the Hot 100 is quite a lot to accomplish, it's entirely possible that "Die With a Smile" will match "Just Dance" one day — and perhaps even beat it. There's even a shot at it becoming Gaga's first tune to live on the Hot 100 for an entire year. This frame, "Die With a Smile" sits at No. 7 on the Hot 100, dropping only one spot. Continued radio play is largely keeping the track alive, as the duet remains in heavy rotation across a number of pop formats. This week, the throwback track appears on four of Billboard's radio tallies, and it lives inside the top 10 on all of them, even after 41 frames.

Bruno Mars Beats One Of His Biggest Smashes With A Timeless Duet
Bruno Mars claims two hit songs in the United Kingdom this week, despite not having anything brand new to promote. He's not actively pushing any singles, but two of his releases that originally dropped in 2024 are proving to be among his most successful career wins – ones that the British public is far from tired of hearing. 'Die With a Smile,' his collaboration with Lady Gaga, and 'Apt.,' recorded with Blackpink singer Rosé, are not only still present on the Official Singles chart, they manage to climb, and one of them now ranks among his longest-running successes in the country to date. 'Die With a Smile' returns to the top 40 on the Official Singles chart, the ranking of the most consumed songs in the U.K. This frame marks the track's forty-first stay on the tally. As it adds one more week to its total, the duet with Gaga advances in Mars's discography. With 41 weeks spent on the Official Singles chart, 'Die With a Smile' is now the singer's third-longest-charting tune in the country. Just last frame, it was tied with 'When I Was Your Man' at 40 frames each, but now that ranking has shifted, and the piano ballad has been pushed to fourth place. 'Die With a Smile' still has a long way to go before matching Mars's two longest-charting tracks. 'Uptown Funk,' his smash with Mark Ronson, spent 76 weeks on the tally, while 'Just the Way You Are,' one of his earliest hits, racked up 66. It seems likely that 'Die With a Smile' will continue to chart for a while — perhaps several more months — but whether it will be able to match those two generation-defining singles won't be known for some time. 'Apt.' appears even higher than 'Die With a Smile' on the main songs ranking, which makes sense since it hasn't been charting for quite as long in the U.K. His Rosé collaboration has now spent 32 weeks on the Official Singles chart. With that total, the English/Korean tune is now tied as Mars's tenth-longest-running win in the U.K. It's currently matched with his own 'Billionaire,' and next week it will likely tie '24K Magic.'
