OnePlus Ace 5 lineup gets two new members

OnePlus Ace 5 and Ace 5 Pro have been on the smartphone market for almost half a year, but now the company refreshes the series with two more models – Ace 5 Racing and Ace 5 Ultra. These new smartphones are entirely different in specs and design, but keep the overall tone of the lineup - flagship performance at sub-flagship prices. OnePlus Ace 5 Ultra The name Ultra is literally translated as "Supreme," and is technically the most powerful Mediatek-equipped OnePlus smartphone – it comes with Dimensity 9400+. Here, we have a 6.83" OLED display with 120 Hz refresh rate and a resolution slightly greater than Full HD+. The chipset is coupled with 12 GB or 16 GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256 GB, 512 GB, or 1 TB UFS 4.0 storage. They are split into five different memory combinations to cover a wide price spectrum. The OnePlus Ace 5 Ultra has a modest camera setup: a 50 MP main shooter with an f/1.8 lens, AF and OIS, coupled with an 8 MP ultra-wide-angle shooter with a 112-degree FoV. The front camera is a basic 16 MP shooter sitting behind a punch hole. The phone comes with a dedicated side button that can be programmed to act as a shortcut to a predetermined set of apps — alarm, torch, Night Mode, translator or AI. OnePlus equipped the Ultra with a G1 connectivity chip that improves Wi-Fi speed and reliability by 33%, compared with competitors. It also has multi-layered cooling architecture with a 7,300 vapor chamber. The battery of the OnePlus Ace 5 Ultra has 6,700 mAh capacity. It comes with 100W wired charging support and also offers bypass charging. Just 10 minutes on the charger should offer 3 hours of gaming, while 39 minutes should fill the battery from 0 to 100%. OnePlus Ace 5 Ultra OnePlus comes in China with Oppo's ColorOS 15 and the in-house AI assistant, which is available only in the domestic market. Its colors are Blue, Black and Titanium Silver (with a cool striped design on the back), and the starting price is CNY2,499 (12/256 GB). The most expensive version is 16 GB RAM + 1 TB storage and costs CNY 3,799. OnePlus Ace 5 Racing OnePlus Ace 5 Racing comes with a Dimensity 9400e chipset. It has the same RAM and storage options as the Ultra, sans the 1 TB variant. The cameras on the back are downgraded to 50 MP main and 2 MP B&W sensor. The selfie camera retains its 16 MP sensor. Ace 5 Racing is built around a 6.77" AMOLED panel with Full HD+ resolution and up to 120 Hz refresh rate. OnePlus decided not to go with the dedicated G1 connectivity chip but at least brought a sophisticated cooling solution (although not as good as the one on the Ultra), including a 7,000 sq mm vapor chamber. The Ace 5 Racing excels over the Ultra with battery capacity – it brings the biggest cell in a OnePlus smartphone – 7,100 mAh. It charges at "only" 80W and it comes with bypass charging. This phone runs with ColorOS 15 and some AI features, like 4K upscaling in videos and erasing objects in photos. OnePlus Ace 5 Racing OnePlus Ace 5 Racing is available in White, Black, and Mint Green. Starting price is CNY1,799 for 12/256 GB. We don't expect this phone to launch outside China, but we would love to be surprised by OnePlus and Oppo. Source 1 • Source 2 (both in Chinese)

Xiaomi debuts XRING 01 chip to rival Snapdragon 8 Elite and Dimensity 9400

Chinese smartphone company Xiaomi has revealed XRING 01, its first-ever in-house design chipset for mobile devices. The company's new chipset features a deca-core CPU accompanied by an ARM Immortalis-G925 MC16 GPU. While the Dimensity 9400, MediaTek's fastest chipset that competes against the Snapdragon 8 Elite, has the same GPU, the Xiaomi XRING 01 has 16 shader cores compared to 12 on MediaTek. Built in TSMC's 3nm N3E process, Xiaomi claimed that its new custom processor obtained an AnTuTu score of around 30 million, but a new report by Wccftech says that the actual score is somewhere around 26 million, which means it is slightly slower than the Snapdragon 8 Elite and the Dimensity 9400. On the CPU front, the XRING 01 beats the Dimensity 9400 but falls short of matching the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Also, unlike the newest MediaTek and Qualcomm flagship chipsets, Xiaomi's new chip packs an external modem. Taking of the GPU, the slightly weaker Dimensity 9400 GPU comes close to the Snapdragon 8 Elite, but we will have to see if the XRING 01's graphics capabilities can surpass Qualcomm's latest flagship chipset. For those wondering, Xiaomi just announced that the first devices to be powered by the XRING 01 chipset are the Xiaomi 15S Pro smartphone and the Xiaomi Pad 7 Ultra, both of which are currently only available in China. This means that we will have to wait and see if these devices find their way to the global market or if the Snapdragon 8 Elite competitor stays China exclusive. The XRING 01 may not be impressive at first, but considering this is Xiaomi's in-house designed chip, it will be interesting to see if the company plans to design more or if this was a one-off thing. Also, AnTuTu tests are more than just the chipset, meaning other components might also affect the final score. Still, this is a huge step by Xiaomi in the right direction.

Xiaomi 15S Pro shows up in Geekbench results with surprisingly competitive Xring O1

Xiaomi's in-house Xring O1 chipset may be more competitive than expected. Early rumors claimed that it will be comparable to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, but the first benchmarks (if legitimate) put it close to the Elite. Xiaomi has already confirmed that the O1 is fabbed on a second generation 3nm node. The hardware is not known, but leaks suggest a Cortex-X925 prime core, three A725 performance cores and four A520 efficiency cores for the CPU plus an Imagination GPU. Xiaomi 15S Pro with Xring O1 chipset: details from Geekbench Reliable leaksters @UniverseIce and @Jukanlosreve point to Geekbench results from the Xiaomi 25042PN24C. This is significant for two reasons – for one, some sources claim that this phone is the Xiaomi 15S Pro, which will be replacing the Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered Xiaomi 15 Pro. The second reason is the results – with a mid-9,000 multi-core score and high-2,000 to low-3,000 single-core scores, the Xring O1 would place slightly behind the Snapdragon 8 Elite and slightly ahead of the Dimensity 9400. We haven't benchmarked the Xiaomi 15 Pro, but we have results from the Ultra. Here's how it compares with the top result from the 25042PN24C: The Snapdragon uses custom Qualcomm CPU cores, so put that aside. The Dimensity 9400 is fabbed on a first-gen 3nm node and features a Cortex-X925 (3.63GHz), three X4 cores (3.3GHz) and four A720 (2.4GHz). According to Geekbench, the O1 has a 10-core CPU instead of having 8-cores (we listed clockspeeds listed below). That could be a mistake, an issue with identifying a new chip. The 3.9GHz clock speed raises an eyebrow too – even the Dimensity 9400+ tops out at 3.73GHz and only on one core. There are CPU cores that clock higher (e.g. the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy goes up to 4.47GHz), but different core designs behave differently, so a simple clockspeed comparison is difficult. Maybe this is the advantage of the second-gen 3nm node. Xiaomi Xring O1 CPU (according to Geekbench) Cluster 4 2 cores @ 3.90GHz Cluster 3 4 cores @ 3.40GHz Cluster 2 2 cores @ 1.89GHz Cluster 1 2 cores @ 1.80GHz Also, the GPU is listed as Immortalis-G925 instead of an Imagination design (though that was only a rumor, anyway). Keep in mind that such early benchmarks from unknown sources aren't entirely reliable, but we will find out more later this week. Xiaomi has a big event on May 22 (Thursday), which should feature the Xiaomi 15S Pro, the Xiaomi Pad 7 Ultra and the Xiaomi YU7 (the company's first SUV). And it should be the debut of the Xring O1 chipset – perhaps not a coincidence, if the 15S Pro is indeed the 25042PN24C. Source | Via 1 | Via 2
