Dimple Yadav's attire was inappropriate for mosque: BJP minority wing chief

National president of BJP Alpsankhyak Morcha Jamal Siddiqui on Wednesday criticised Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav for allegedly violating decorum during a visit to a mosque adjacent to Parliament. The remark drew a sharp reaction, with the SP alleging that Siddiqui is associated with an ideology responsible for the demolition of mosques and places of worship. Speaking in Kanpur on Wednesday, Siddiqui said Dimple Yadav's attire was inappropriate. He accused her of entering the mosque without covering her head, calling it 'an insult to the sentiments of Muslims.' Addressing a press conference, he said both men and women are expected to cover their bodies fully as per Islamic customs when entering a place of worship. 'Dimple Yadav's attire was inappropriate in that way,' he said, adding that such actions reflect a disregard for religious sanctity. Siddiqui further alleged that SP president Akhilesh Yadav had behaved inappropriately inside the mosque, claiming that he was seen laughing, which he described as 'disrespectful'. Reacting to the statement by Siddiqui, SP spokesperson Ameeque Jamei said, 'The ideology that Jamal Siddiqui is associated with is responsible for the martyrdom of our mosques and places of worship. He should not teach us about mosques. Dimple Yadav ji respects all religions and ideologies. 'Be it Dimple Ji or Iqra Hasan, the anti-women forces are not ready to accept them. That is why they are being targeted. The doors of mosques are always open for women. This is the house of Allah and is for everyone. If Jamal Siddiqui has anything to do with Islam, he should tell the UP government to stop demolishing mosques,' the SP spokesperson said. Meanwhile, Siddiqui announced the launch of 'Dr Kalam Startup Youth Award 2.0', to be presented on the tenth death anniversary of former President and Bharat Ratna awardee, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. The award aims to recognise and honour outstanding young entrepreneurs from minority communities across India. Praising the initiatives of the Central government, Siddiqui contrasted the progress under the Modi administration with that of the previous SP government. 'During the Akhilesh regime, there were only 30,000 startups. Under Prime minister Narendra Modi, the number has surged to over 4.36 lakh,' he claimed. Lauding government schemes such as Startup India, Digital India, and Atmanirbhar Bharat, Siddiqui noted that these have empowered India's youth and given a significant impetus to entrepreneurship. Recalling Dr Kalam's vision, Siddiqui urged the youth to contribute to nation-building by following his ideals.

Women protest cleric's remarks against Dimple Yadav's attire

Lucknow: A large number of women carrying tricolour and saffron flags, swords, placards and rolling pins marched in Sarojininagar on Friday to protest a cleric's alleged derogatory remarks against SP MP Dimple Yadav's attire. The march was organised by BJP MLA Rajeshwar Singh under the banner 'Shakti ka Shankhnaad'. Singh attacked those mocking Indian traditions and women's dignity. "Women in India are not weak. They are the embodiment of creation, culture and character," he said. Taking aim at appeasement politics, he said: "Those who insult sarees and traditional attire are not cultural torchbearers, but cowards with a spineless, valueless mindset. India is the land of Rani Lakshmibai, Uda Devi and Ahilyabai Holkar – it will never bow to such extremist ideologies." Singh added that "Like the Taliban shut schools for 15 lakh Afghan girls, a similar mentality is trying to grow roots in India—but our daughters now fly Rafales and lead lunar missions. India will not stay silent." He further said: "If a cleric doesn't like sarees, should we say we don't like his beard?" Singh distributed laptops to 25 top-performing schoolgirls from Sarojininagar. BJP Mahanagar Lucknow unit President Anand Dwivedi praised the role of women in Indian civilisation.

Who is Maulana Sajid Rashidi, slapped by SP workers over inappropriate remark on Dimple Yadav

As a video of Rashidi's comment began to circulate on social media, a case was registered against him at Vibhuti Khand police station in Lucknow, on a complaint by SP worker Pravesh Yadav. After the show aired, a group of Samajwadi Party workers slapped Maulana Rashidi at a TV set in Noida. UP police sources told ThePrint that SP workers who slapped Rashidi have been identified as Shyam Singh Bhati, national secretary of the SP Advocate Sabha; Mohit Nagar, district president of the SP student wing, Gautam Budhha Nagar; Prashant Bhati, state secretary of the party's student wing; and Kuldeep Bhati, an SP worker. Lucknow: Maulana Sajid Rashidi is no stranger to controversy. The Delhi-based president of the All India Imam Association has been in the news many times for making provocative statements, especially during TV debates. Now, Rashidi finds himself facing another political storm over an inappropriate comment he made about Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Dimple Yadav, who is also the wife of former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav. Speaking to ANI after the incident, Rashidi later defended his remarks. 'She (Dimple) didn't abide by Islamic beliefs while sitting in the mosque. Iqra Hasan's ears and nose are covered. On the other hand, there is Dimple Yadav … The question is, will Akhilesh Yadav file an FIR against the person who took this picture (of the mosque visit),' he said. 'I will also go to the police and submit the phone numbers from which I received threats. I will file a case against Akhilesh and Dimple Yadav because it is their workers who are sending threats,' he added. Reacting to the controversy, Dimple Yadav told reporters, 'It's good that an FIR was registered. It would have been better if they had protested when the incidents against women happened in Manipur. After Operation Sindoor, BJP leaders made indecent remarks against our armed forces officers. It would have been better if they had stood against it.' Following a police complaint by the TV news channel, a case has been registered at Noida's Sector 126 police station against Maulana Sajid Rashidi, Shyam Singh Bhati, Mohit Nagar and Kuldeep Bhati. Police are currently investigating the matter. At the time of the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, he said he voted for the BJP to dispel fear among Muslims about supporting the party and to challenge the belief that Muslims don't support the BJP. BJP leader Amit Malviya even shared Rashidi's video online during the Delhi polls to claim that a large number of Muslims were supporting the BJP now. Rashidi later clarified that his real intention was to make the Muslim community politically independent. He also supported the controversial Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, calling it a revolutionary step to safeguard the rights of the Muslim community. He also accused those opposing the law of trying to provoke unrest and urged the government to check the properties of those opposing it. In response to the Pahalgam terror attack, he blamed Pakistan, saying its actions were tarnishing the image of Indian Muslims. He even said that, if necessary, he was ready to go to the border himself to teach Pakistan a lesson. In an interview with ANI in 2023, he made a controversial comment about 17th-century Maratha ruler Shivaji, downplaying his contributions. In 2023, he claimed that Mahmud of Ghazni was right to demolish the Somnath temple, alleging that 'wrong things' were happening there. He later apologised after a backlash and an FIR from the Somnath Trust. In 2024, he drew flak for comments made during a TV debate. Loni BJP MLA Nand Kishor Gurjar filed a complaint against him, accusing him of hurting the sentiments of Hindus. Back in 2022, Rashidi supported threats issued against then BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma over her controversial remarks on Prophet Mohammad.
