India records 4 fresh Covid fatalities; toll rises to 59
NEW DELHI: India recorded four fresh fatalities in Covid patients on Saturday, including that of a full-term pregnant woman from Madhya Pradesh. Govt update stated that the deceased woman suffered from seizures during delivery and later it was found that she was Covid positive. Maharashtra, which has recorded 17 deaths in Covid patients over the last few weeks - the highest for any state - reported one more death taking the toll in the state to 18. Kerala also reported a Covid death in a cancer patient, taking the state's toll to 12. The fourth death was recorded in Tamil Nadu. W ith this, the total number of deaths due to Covid this year has touched 59, while the active case tally has reached 5,755. In view of increase in cases and deaths, Centre is conducting mock drills to check facility-level preparedness for Covid. States have also been instructed to ensure availability of oxygen, isolation beds, ventilators and essential medicines in view of rising cases. Official sources have maintained that most cases are mild and managed under home care. To evaluate the current Covid situation and preparedness measures, a series of review meetings were held on June 2 and 3 under the chairpersonship of Dr Sunita Sharma, director general of health services, with representatives of Disaster Management Cell, Emergency Management Response Cell, National Centre for Disease Control, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), central govt hospitals in Delhi, and states and UTs. On June 4, official sources said that state and district surveillance units under IDSP are closely monitoring influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory illness (SARI). "Testing is recommended for all admitted SARI cases and 5% of ILI cases as per guidelines, and positive SARI samples are sent for whole genome sequencing through ICMR-VRDL network," an official source had said.

The cases emerged from a mass testing drive involving 1,183 individuals, highlighting the state's proactive surveillance strategy. Haryana recorded 31 new COVID-19 cases, mainly from Gurugram and Faridabad, bringing the state's active case count to 87. Authorities are ensuring that local health systems remain prepared for any rise in cases. To bolster readiness, the central government has initiated mock drills across hospitals nationwide, evaluating critical resources such as oxygen supply, ventilators, and essential medicines to handle potential surges efficiently. According to a press release, the representatives include Disaster Management Cell, Emergency Management Response (EMR) Cell, National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) and Central Government Hospitals in Delhi and with representatives from all States and UTs to evaluate the current COVID-19 situation and preparedness measures. Fadnavis continuously reviewing situation created by rains in Maharashtra
ANI 27 May 2025, 02:28 GMT+10 Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], May 27 (ANI): Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has been continuously reviewing the situation created by rains in the state and has instructed the entire administration to be on alert mode. He has ordered immediate panchnamas to be conducted in the places where damage has occurred. He is in constant touch with the state Chief Secretary and the state Disaster Management Cell. Pune, Satara, Solapur, Raigad, Mumbai and MMR areas have received heavy rainfall in the state, officials said. Twenty-five houses have partially collapsed in Baramati and seven people trapped in the flood have been rescued. About 80 families have been shifted to safer places. Two people have been rescued from the flood situation in Indapur. An NDRF team has reached Phaltan. Thirty people were stranded near Dudhebavi village. They have been provided with accommodation and food facilities. Officials said Solapur received 67.75 mm of rain. Six people were stranded in the flood in Malshiras taluka and have been shifted to a safe place. One person died due to lightning in Raigad, while the Mahad to Raigad Fort road has been closed due to heavy rain. Mumbai received 135.4 mm of rain in 24 hours, officials said. Complaints of short circuit incidents were received from 18 places and complaints of building walls collapsing at five places. Mumbai Municipal Corporation, Fire Department, Mumbai Police and all other agencies are geared up. NDRF teams are ready at five places in Mumbai for any kind of help. Meteorological Department has predicted rains with thunder and gale force winds in Mumbai. (ANI)

23 active Covid-19 cases in Delhi, no need to panic: Delhi Health Minister
Amid a spate of Covid-19 cases in parts of India, Delhi has detected 23 active cases of novel coronavirus infection till Thursday, Health Minister Pankaj Jain said on of these cases have been reported after tests conducted at private labs, Jain said, adding that it is yet to be ascertained whether these cases originated in Delhi or came from outside the the wake of the number of cases reported, we are in constant touch with medical superintendents of all hospitals in Delhi.
