"There's Just Something About It That's Very Patronizing": Jenna Ortega Spoke About Wearing A Schoolgirl Outfit In "Wednesday"
One person who didn't want Wednesday to be quite so popular was series lead Jenna Ortega — at least, according to a new profile. The interview comes ahead of the release of Season 2 of the hit Netflix series in August. The success of the first season shouldn't be understated, as it quickly became one of the most popular English-language series on Netflix of all time. Though she had been acting since she was a child, beforehand, Jenna was best known for her roles in horror movies (or, for the connoisseurs in the room, the Disney series Stuck in the Middle). In a new interview with Harper's Bazaar, Jenna said that she initially didn't want to take on the role due to the time commitment making television takes. "I was getting to this point in my career where I was doing movies and getting in the rooms,' she said. "So I kept telling everyone no. I almost didn't want to hear what Tim [Burton] had to say, and really like it, and feel like I needed to do it — which is kind of what happened.' "To be quite frank, after the show and trying to figure everything out, I was an unhappy person,' she continued. 'After the pressure, the attention — as somebody who's quite introverted, that was so intense and so scary.' Thankfully, things have gotten better with Season 2, as Jenna is a producer and the shooting location has moved from Romania to Dublin. However, she is still concerned that the role may affect her future casting as a person in their early 20s. 'I'm doing a show I'm going to be doing for years where I play a schoolgirl,' she continued. 'But I'm also a young woman.' She further echoed Natalie Portman's thoughts on the difficulties of being a child actor and then a short adult. 'I relate to that so immensely, and it's always been really annoying, because you just don't feel like you're being taken seriously,' Jenna explained, noting that there can be pressure on girls to remain frozen at a certain age. 'You know, it's like how you're dressed in the schoolgirl costume. … There's just something about it that's very patronizing. Also, when you're short, people are already physically looking down on you.' One thing Jenna does like about the character Wednesday is her honesty. "I mean, God, if you could speak to everybody like Wednesday — just say what you truly mean — it would be amazing!' she explained. 'It's pretty funny, when you think about it. She's an outsider, but now she's on these mugs, cereal boxes, and T-shirts. You're just thinking, Oh, man, she would hate this!' I saw one of such T-shirts just this morning. Jenna further emphasized that she's "grateful" for her audience — but excited to take on roles that are "older and bolder and different." You can read more here.

Pro-Palestine Protesters Arrested At Gal Gadot's ‘The Runner' London Filming Location
Five protesters have been arrested after reportedly targeting the central London set of Gal Gadot's upcoming film The Runner. Metropolitan Police responded to the Westminster set on Wednesday, where three people were arrested for harassment, as well as wrongfully and unlawfully obstructing access to a workplace. Another two were arrested over previous protests. Sources tell Deadline the protests have not impacted the production's schedule. More from Deadline Gal Gadot To Star In Kevin Macdonald-Directed Thriller 'The Runner' From Amazon MGM Studios & David Kosse's Rockwood Pictures 'Snow White:' Lebanon Bans Disney Remake Over Inclusion Of Israeli Actress Gal Gadot Cherien Dabis Teams With May Odeh & Ina Fichman To Direct 'Sharon And My Mother-In-Law' Adaptation - Cannes Market In a news release, police said the set was hit with demonstrations 'solely because an actress involved in the production is Israeli.' Deadline has reached out to Gadot's rep for comment. 'While we absolutely acknowledge the importance of peaceful protest, we have a duty to intervene where it crosses the line into serious disruption or criminality,' said Superintendent Neil Holyoak in a statement. Directed by Kevin Macdonald from a script by Mark Gibson, Amazon MGM Studios' The Runner stars Gadot as a high-powered attorney who must race through London, following the cryptic commands of a mysterious caller, as she fights against time to save her abducted son. Gadot, who was born in Israel and served in the IDF, has previously expressed her support for Israel, sparking pro-Palestine protests at her Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in March. Her and Snow White co-star Rachel Zegler's opposing public stances also recently plagued the release of the Disney live-action movie, to the tune of a $115 million loss. Barbara Walters doc revisits savage interviews with Taylor Swift, Trump, the Kardashians and more
A new Hulu documentary is revisiting Barbara Walters' most scathing interviews throughout her decades-long career. In a sneak peek trailer for 'Barbara Walters Tell Me Everything', released Wednesday, celebrities like Taylor Swift, the Kardashians and now-President Trump appear in footage highlighting the late broadcast journalist's most memorable sit downs. At one point, Walters can be seen telling Swift, 'I know you don't want to talk about guys, and I won't push it, but how are you going to find anybody?' Other scenes show the intrepid journalist savagely pointing out to the Kardashian family that they 'don't really act,' 'sing,' 'dance' or 'have any talent' — and calling out Trump for his widely perceived lack of 'humility.' Elsewhere in the teaser, the documentary even re-explores the time Walters asked Courtney Love if she had ever done 'drugs in front of [her] child.' The singer shares daughter Frances Bean, now 32, with late ex Kurt Cobain. 'No one ever got out totally unscathed,' Walters' former ABC News colleague, Cynthia McFadden, said in a confessional interview. 'She asked the question that nobody else had asked,' Oprah Winfrey added. 'And asked it in a way that always hit a nerve.' The scene then cuts to a clip of the 'Color Purple' star, 71, being reduced to tears due to Walter's tense interview style. The pioneering journalist, who collected many legendary accolades throughout her 50-year career, died at age 93 in December 2022. But her voice lives on in the upcoming documentary, as throwback footage plays of Walters looking back on her own legacy in the media prior to her death. As the first woman to ever anchor the evening news on a major network, she didn't attribute her success to her good looks. 'I was never beautiful,' she said in the clip. 'If I had been a dog, I mean, maybe they wouldn't have put me on television. But, I mean, nobody ever put me on because I was beautiful or glamorous.' Instead, Disney CEO Robert Iger credited Walters' enterprising 'vision' as the impetus that propelled her career. 'She had a vision that celebrities are news, and she turned out to be right. They were newsmakers,' Iger, 74, shared. 'Whether it was her looks or her voice, just the fact that she was a woman, there were people that just didn't believe in her and she loved proving them wrong,' he continued. 'Her job was the love of her life.' 'Barbara Walters Tell Me Everything' begins streaming June 23 on Hulu.
