Disneyland Abu Dhabi will be constructed on Yas Island, a major tourism hub in the United Arab Emirates that includes the Miral-built Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World and SeaWorld parks. It will be the company's first all-new location since the Shanghai Disney Resort opened in 2016. The Burbank, California-based entertainment company had previously outlined a decade-long plan to turbocharge growth in its parks division — its most profitable business. Disney's 'imagineers' are in the process of designing the resort and its attractions, a process that typically takes about two years, according to Josh D'Amaro, who leads the division that includes the company's parks, cruise ships and consumer products. Once the designs are complete, the park will take five to six years to build. Plan your next getaway with Travel Time, featuring travel deals, destinations and gear. Details such as the cost and attractions of the resort weren't disclosed. 'The project is incredibly ambitious, and the land we're building on will be large enough to showcase all of our franchises,' D'Amaro said in an interview. 'The Middle East is a part of the world we feel we have huge opportunity in, and we've found both a location and a partner that are a great match for the ambition we have.' The resort will be Disney's most technologically advanced, and Miral will fund the entirety of the project, D'Amaro said. The new park will give the company a footprint in the largest global airline hub in the world, with more than 120 million passengers traveling annually through Abu Dhabi and Dubai — without any capital commitment. Officials at Disney have been in talks with Miral for about 18 months and hosted its management in Burbank last year to review proposals, D'Amaro said. Disney announced plans last year to double capital investment in its resorts business to $60 billion over the next decade to accelerate growth in its experiences business. As part of that, the company is doubling the size of its cruise fleet to 13 ships by 2031 and building a land devoted to villains at its Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. Rival Comcast Corp.'s Universal Destinations & Experiences is opening a new $7 billion Florida theme park later in this month and is advancing plans to build its first European theme park in the UK, a potential competitor to Disneyland Paris. The resort in Abu Dhabi will be Disney's seventh location globally to feature theme parks, alongside properties in California, Florida, Tokyo, Paris, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Shanghai took about seven years to open after being formally announced. The park in Abu Dhabi will blend local architecture with Disney's designs, making the resort 'authentically Disney and distinctly Emirati,' Bob Iger, Disney's chief executive officer, said in a statement. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. A rendering supplied by Disney showed contemporary-looking structures resembling the Abu Dhabi skyline, although the exact attractions were hard to discern. The park is expected to have a castle, a centerpiece of Disney resorts since the original Disneyland in 1955. Yas Island is a man-made resort area occupying almost 10 square miles (26 kilometers). Located about 30 minutes from the Abu Dhabi city center, the island features beaches, shopping, theme parks, hotels, golf courses and numerous other attractions. In recent months, Disney has opened standalone stores in the UAE, which have seen strong demand, D'Amaro said. Not all of the company's offerings have succeeded in the country, however. In 2022, the UAE — which criminalizes same-sex relationships — banned the release of Disney's Lightyear, a Toy Story spinoff film from Pixar Animation Studios that includes a same-sex kiss. D'Amaro said that Disney operates all over the world and always adheres to its own standards and values, as well as local laws and regulations. Earlier on Wednesday, Disney reported fiscal second-quarter earnings that exceed expectations and lifted its guidance for the full year. The results were driven by increased profits at the domestic theme parks, the company's streaming services and its film studio. Revenue overall rose 7% to $23.6 billion, while adjusted earnings per share climbed 20% to $1.45, beating estimates for $1.20. Disney World adds an adults-only after-dark experience

It's barely an exaggeration to say that the food in Disney theme parks is a big part of the experience, almost as much as the rides. And anyone who has visited one of the parks more than once most definitely has a favorite "only in Disney" food. Don't miss the move: Subscribe to TheStreet's free daily newsletter Maybe you can't visit without grabbing one of those turkey legs that's as big as your 10-year-old child's arm. Or maybe it's the pineapple Dole Whip soft-serve that you dream about. How about a churro? In Walt Disney's (DIS) Disney World, there are 200 places to eat, including 90 with table service. (There are only 139 in Disneyland, but still plenty to choose from.) You can even find upscale dining options like steakhouses in the parks, not quite Michelin Star material, perhaps, but almost. Earlier this year, Disney World announced it was bringing back a dining option that is really popular with families: kids eat free. If you stay at one of the 25 Disney Resort hotels in Orlando and you purchase a dining plan for people in your group who are older than 10, you will also get a free dining plan for kids ages 3 to 9. Related: Disneyland lowers some ticket prices (act fast) Since a day in Disney can cost between $500 and $1,200 per person by the time you account for the ticket, the hotel and food, any offer that helps bring the prices down is a welcome one. Guests normally can't combine special offers, but this year Disney is allowing it. "The kids' free dining plan offering can be combined with other select special offers, meaning you may still be eligible to take advantage of other deals we later roll out for 2026," according to the Disney Parks Blog. The Disney Company is always looking for ways to get people to come back to The Happiest Place on Earth. They revamp old rides, introduce new ones, add new live shows, and have spectacular seasonal events. Earlier this year the company announced GEO-82, a new 21+, reservations-required dining lounge in Epcot. Related: Disney World makes families a generous offer Now the park is upping the ante with the new GEO-82 Fireworks Experience. Disney hasn't yet specified what the "light bites" for the Fireworks Experience will include, but the GEO-82 menu includes foods with global influences - like Truffled Ahi Tuna and Jumbo Lump Crab Gâteau. The cocktail menu highlights a Brown Butter Old Fashioned - made with brown butter-infused bourbon - and a Clarified New York Sour, plus a selection of mocktails, wines, and beers. Reservations for the GEO-82 Fireworks Experience will open on May 6 for dates starting June 4. The experience costs $179 (plus tax and gratuity).
