MNS reaches out to Prakash Mahajan after his public outburst on not being invited to party conclave in Nashik
Senior leader of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Bala Nandgaonkar reached out to party spokesperson Prakash Mahajan and held a discussion, a day after the latter expressed his disappointment with the party leadership for not inviting him for the state conclave. The MNS has organised a three-day state conclave at Igatpuri in Nashik district. The conclave assumes significance in the wake of the reunion of estranged brothers Uddhav Thackeray, president of Shiv Sena (UBT), and MNS chief Raj Thackeray. While Raj Thackeray was determined to give a bold message in the conclave and ascertain the majority view within the organisation over truce and political alliance between Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS, senior leader Prakash Mahajan expressed his displeasure with the organisation in public on Tuesday. Prakash Mahajan, who is the brother of slain BJP leader and former Union Minister Pramod Mahajan, hails from Beed district in Marathwada region. Unlike his high-profile brother, Prakash Mahajan maintains a low profile but is known for his blunt nature. He has been associated with the MNS, which was founded by Raj Thackeray in March 2006 after leaving undivided Shiv Sena which was then led by late Bal Thackeray. However, the party's decision to skip his name from the conclave disappointed him. 'Is a spokesperson's post so insignificant? What face do I have in public if my party and leadership don't value my work,' he said. 'There is Diwali in party and darkness in my home. I cannot face my own people. However, irrespective of the treatment that has been meted out to me, my loyalty remains with the party and Raj Thackeray,' said Mahajan. Taking cognizance of Mahajan's unrest, MNS leader Bala Nandgaonkar reached out to him and assured to address his concerns. This is not the first time Prakash Mahajan is complaining about MNS. In the past, he faced the threat of expulsion from the party for 'anti-party' activities—a charge he had strongly refuted as baseless. In July 2009, Mahajan joined Shiv Sena led by Uddhav Thackeray alleging that MNS had declined to a group where only a handful people hold sway and that the party lacked vision for Maharashtra. However, his stint in the Shiv Sena was shortlived and he returned to the MNS within a couple of years. Prakash Mahajan has often created a flutter with his public outbursts. In June 2025, he wrote letter to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis alleging that followers of Union Minister Narayan Rane were threatening him with abusive calls and sought protection.

Festive hiring likely to generate 216,000 seasonal jobs in 2025: Report
India's festive season is expected to generate over 2.16 lakh seasonal jobs in the second half of 2025, marking a 15-20 per cent year-on-year increase in gig and temporary employment, a report said on Wednesday. The rise in festive hiring is being driven by sectors, including retail, e-commerce, BFSI, logistics, hospitality, travel, and FMCG, workforce solutions firm Adecco India said in the report. Hiring activity has gained momentum in anticipation of upcoming festivals like Raksha Bandhan, Dussehra, Diwali, seasonal sales and the wedding season. Many companies are advancing their hiring cycles to stay ahead of demand and ensure operational readiness for what is expected to be a stronger-than-usual festive period. This year's hiring uptick is being driven by improved consumer sentiment, a favourable monsoon boosting rural demand, post-election economic optimism, and aggressive seasonal promotions, the report stated. This report on hiring in seasonal jobs is based on data of Adecco India's client base, opening positions on various platforms and industry reports. "This year's festive season is seeing a sharper and more structured demand curve, and we have proactively prepared to meet it well in advance. Unlike previous years where hiring was largely volume-driven, employers today are equally focused on deployment speed, workforce readiness, and regional agility," Adecco India Director and Head of General Staffing Deepesh Gupta said. The report further revealed that metro cities such as Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Pune continue to lead in seasonal hiring demand, with 19 per cent more opportunities from last year. At the same time, Tier II cities like Lucknow, Jaipur, Coimbatore, Nagpur, Bhubaneswar, Mysuru, and Varanasi are witnessing a 42 per cent increase in demand, it said, adding that there is also a growing traction in emerging hubs such as Kanpur, Kochi, and Vijayawada, indicating a broader geographic spread of festive hiring. Meanwhile, compensation levels are expected to rise by 12-15 per cent in metro markets and by 18-22 per cent in emerging cities, said the report. The report also found 23 per cent rise in women's participation in this year's seasonal hiring wave compared to the previous year, driven by a rising preference for flexible, short-term roles. Further, it revealed that hiring in logistics and delivery is projected to rise by 30-35 per cent as companies scale up last-mile operations in preparation for peak festive demand. In the BFSI sector, firms are significantly ramping up field force deployments for credit card sales and POS (point-of-sale) installations, particularly across Tier II and III cities. The demand is, therefore, expected to grow by 30 per cent, it added. The hospitality and travel segments are expected to see a 20-25 per cent increase in hiring, while e-commerce and retail will continue to dominate, accounting for 35-40 per cent of total seasonal job creation. The report found that employers are increasingly prioritising multilingual capabilities, customer-handling skills, and digital proficiency, especially for roles in in-store sales, credit card promotions, and delivery fulfilment. "With deployment timelines compressed and retention rates improving steadily, seasonal hiring is no longer a stop-gap but a strategic workforce layer, particularly across digital commerce, retail, and financial services. The focus now is not just on scale, but on structured mobilisation, candidate experience, client delight, and long-term workforce integration," Gupta added.
