Ajay Devgn had to rescue Deepak Dobriyal on Son of Sardaar 2 set after a woman pulled him to ladies washroom: ‘He plays a woman in the film'

In Vijay Kumar Arora's upcoming action comedy Son of Sardaar 2, Deepak Dobriyal plays a woman. His act was so convincing that people on set actually believed he was a woman in real life. On the latest episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show on Netflix, the film's cast narrated hilarious stories of Dobriyal's experiences on set. Dobriyal's co-star Sanjay Mishra recalled when he saw Kubbra Sait on the set for the first time, he felt relieved that spending time with a 'beautiful woman' would make the experience worth it. 'Khoda pahaad, nikla Deepak Dobriyal,' said Mishra, adding, 'He'd kept everyone on set entertained. They were extra good to Deepak.' The film's lead actor, Ajay Devgn, then revealed Deepak Dobriyal plays a woman in Son of Sardaar 2. 'He makes a beautiful woman, surprisingly beautiful,' said Ravi Kishan, adding, 'He looked like a proper woman. Half of the set was gaga over him. All the tall, foreign henchmen standing behind me were gaga over him.' He even revealed a 6.5-feet Sardar man was even willing to marry Dobriyal. 'The way he made him look, the way he carried himself, he was on a roll for the 40 days of shoot,' added Kishan. Devgn revealed Dobriyal never used to change out of his woman's clothes and wig even when the cast went out for dinner after pack-up. He naturally got the most attention. 'There was a party that evening. My hotel was quite far. The restaurant was in the middle, so I'd end up travelling an hour each side. So I just went there as I was,' explained Dobriyal. Mrunal Thakur, the film's leading lady, confessed she would blush looking at Deepak Dobriyal dressed up as a woman. 'He'd enter the men's washroom dressed as a woman. And we'd stand outside anxiously wondering what would happen to him,' she said. 'The men started screaming,' added Devgn, laughing. Dobriyal then recalled how a woman, who accidentally entered the men's washroom too, held his hand and took him along to the ladies washroom, assuming he's a woman. Devgn had to intervene and say, 'No no no, he's a boy!' Son of Sardaar 2 is a sequel to Son of Sardaar, which was released in 2012. Son of Sardaar was helmed by Ashwni Dhir, and starred Devgn, late actor Mukul Dev, Sanjay Dutt, and Sonakshi Sinha. It revolved around Jaswinder 'Jassi' Singh Randhawa (Devgn), who returns to his village in Punjab after spending years in London to sell his ancestral property, but things take an unexpected turn. The film emerged as box office hit and grossed Rs 161.48 crore with its worldwide collection. Exclusive: Deepak Dobriyal says he's waiting for the right biopic, not just any role

Actor Deepak Dobriyal recently spoke about the kind of work he wants to pursue and the challenges of picking meaningful projects in today's film industry. In an exclusive interview with India Today, Dobriyal shared that despite his longstanding desire, he is yet to take on a biopic, something he has been hoping to do since 2007– about the roles he wants to play in his upcoming films, he said he wishes to do biopics on Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Pinki Pramanik, and Dhyan are so many characters I want to play. I want to do a biopic on Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, I wanted to do one on Pinki Pramanik, I wanted to do one on Dhyan Chand. There are many others too. And there are some more now, but I won't say anything about those yet, because every time I say it, others end up making the biopic except me. I've been talking about these since 2007-2008, so now I won't speak, I'll show through action,' he said. Dobriyal shared that he is drawn to characters rooted in real life or literature because of the depth and difficulty they demand. 'I want to do these roles because they're challenging. People already know and admire these figures, so portraying them is very difficult. Or if it's a character based on literature, or someone from real-life incidents, those are the kind of roles I want to do,' he actor also addressed the industry's tendency to typecast and how producers often push for familiar formulas. 'A lot of really good scripts are coming to me. So, I don't want to repeat the kind of roles I've already done. I want to do something new. But producers often have a direct demand - take this actor, his comic timing is great, or his villainous approach is fantastic. Here, you're expected to show shades that haven't been seen before. I consider all that, and if the story is good and there's a solid director attached. I give preference to a good director, a good script, and a strong star cast,' he Dobriyal has built a reputation as one of the most talented and versatile actors in Indian cinema, with memorable performances in films like 'Maqbool', 'Omkara', 'Delhi-6', 'Tanu Weds Manu', and 'Hindi Medium'. He was last seen in the crime thriller 'Sector 36', based on the 2006 Nithari serial murders, where he played Inspector Ram Charan Pandey opposite Vikrant Massey.- Ends

‘Housefull 5' trailer: Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh are murder suspects in this laugh riot

Producer Sajid Nadiadwala on Tuesday (May 27) unveiled the trailer of Housefull 5, the much-awaited fifth instalment of one of the most successful comedy franchises in Indian cinema. Starring Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan and Riteish Deshmukh, alongside a star-studded ensemble, the film is set to release in theatres on June 6. Notably, the film is set to feature two different climaxes that will be interchangeably played out at different shows. The trailer opens with a voiceover by Nana Patekar's character, who says how a billionaire, Ranjeet Dobriyal, is throwing a party on a yacht for his 100th birthday. At the party, Dobriyal virtually announces 'Jolly' as the heir to his empire. The problem? He has three sons — Jalabuddin (Riteish), Jalbhushan (Abhishek), and Julius (Akshay) — who all claim to be Jolly. In an unexpected twist, Dobriyal turns up dead, and the three are suspected of murdering their father, an investigation that takes a hilarious turn when they reveal that their drinks were spiked the night before, and so they don't remember a thing that had transpired. To help with the case, two expert cops (played by Sanjay Dutt and Jackie Shroff) are called in. The rest of the almost four-minute-long trailer promises a hilarious murder mystery comedy that is in the vein of Knives Out, Murder Mystery and The Afterparty. In a statement to the press, writer-producer Sajid Nadiadwala said he has been thinking about the story of Housefull 5 and the idea of having two different climaxes for the last 30 years. 'I've always wanted to make a thriller, and the idea finally came to me 3–4 years ago, right after I finished writing Housefull 4. I wrote the story and screenplay myself, and it's truly a dream come true. What makes this film unique is that different shows will have altogether different killers and climaxes. Imagine a 3 PM show having one ending, and the 6 PM show having another - this is happening across single screens and multiplexes.' Directed by Tarun Mansukhani, Housefull 5 features a star-studded cast that also features Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonam Bajwa, Nargis Fakhri, Chitrangada Singh, Fardeen Khan, Chunky Pandey, Johnny Lever, Shreyas Talpade, Dino Morea, Ranjeet, Soundarya Sharma, Nikitin Dheer, and Akashdeep Sabir. The film was shot on a luxurious cruise that journeyed from London to France, Spain, and back to the UK. Housefull 5 is produced by Nadiadwala under the banner of Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment.
