VIDEO: Driver speeds off with woman on hood of car in Albertson's parking lot

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Bystanders outside of an Albuquerque grocery store were shocked to see a woman on the hood of a car, as the driver sped off. Body cam footage shows officers arrive at the Smith's near Yale and Coal, speaking with witnesses who described what they heard as a white Dodge Challenger sped away. ''Cause when I came out, I heard screaming,' said a witness as they told police what happened on April 29. 'I seen a car back up and we saw her on the hood and then he hauled *** that way.' Police said a white Dodge Challenger, which they believe was being driven by 27-year-old David Cervantes, was seen on the store's security cameras with his girlfriend hanging onto the hood of the car. 'He was flying through that parking lot,' said an officer as he watched the security footage. Albuquerque police say word of mouth is their best recruiting tool The woman told police Cervantes took her purse, so she jumped onto the hood to keep him from leaving. 'I just tried to go and I gave her a chance to get off and she got off and that was it,' said Cervantes. Police said she fell off shortly before Cervantes crashed into another car just down the street from the Smith's. 'I guess he didn't see me coming and smashed into my car,' said Cervantes. Cervantes told police the other driver was on their phone before the crash. When police arrived at the scene, Cervantes was arrested. 'Right now, you are placed under arrest,' said an officer. To which Cervantes responded, 'For what?' Cervantes continued to question why he was being put in handcuffs. 'And then you're going to be going to jail, and then it's up to a judge how long you stay in jail,' said the officer. 'For what I didn't even do anything,' replied Cervantes. Proposal to move former diner turned APD substation to be discussed at public meeting Cervantes told police the woman was trying to chase him down after an argument. He also asked for his wallet, 'Could you go get my wallet from the front seat?' Video shows an officer finding a wad of cash inside the bag Cervantes claims was his wallet. And that's not all they find. 'There's a rifle and a bunch of magazines in the trunk, so we're going to seal the car,' said an officer. Albuquerque Police later found 120,000 fentanyl pills, nearly 29,000 prescription pills, and an AR-style rifle with an altered serial number in the Challenger Cervantes' drove. Also found was more than $49,000 in cash. The woman who fell off the hood of the moving car was admitted to the hospital in stable condition with no life-threatening injuries. Cervantes is charged with aggravated battery and kidnapping, and six felony drug trafficking charges. His trial is expected to take place next year. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. GM Boss Knows What He Wants From A Future Chevrolet Camaro

GM Boss Knows What He Wants From A Future Chevrolet Camaro originally appeared on Autoblog. Is It Time For A Camaro Comeback? The very last sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro rolled off the production line back in January 2024, and although it was an aging car with some flaws, it was also one of the best to drive in its segment. General Motors hasn't totally discounted the idea of a Camaro comeback at some stage, and GM President Mark Reuss has now given his thoughts on what such a return would require. Speaking with GM Authority, Reuss said that a new Camaro would need to offer a little of everything to appeal to a market base that doesn't value muscle cars as much as it once did. "I think that formula of beauty, and a little bit of functionality and fun, all of that is important," said Reuss. "If we were getting back into Camaro, that piece of it is really important." Camaro May Not Mean What It Once Did Those who groaned reading the above know where comments like those from senior auto executives usually lead: a place where a singular focus on performance cannot live. Reuss reportedly mentioned GM's major rival, Ford, recognizing that the Mustang Mach-E all-electric crossover has often outsold the traditional gas-powered muscle car. The idea of a Camaro SUV has been rumored to be under consideration, and there have been hints that such a thing may also be all-electric, but in the current market, which is more enamored by hybrids than EVs, that may be risky. That said, an electric Camaro would take some time to develop, and when it's ready, the buying public's appetite for an EV may have grown. Reuss has previously indicated that the Camaro nameplate could find itself on a four-door of some description, so a sedan cannot be ruled out entirely, but the smart money says a crossover would be a bigger seller. Anything Could Happen View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article It's unclear what direction Chevy will ultimately take. In its last few years on the market, the Camaro received only mild updates while the Dodge Challenger was getting more and more powerful variants and numerous special editions, and only the Mustang challenged the HEMI recipe. Dodge did this as a glorious farewell to the V8 as it prepared to go all-electric in the segment (a decision that has since been reversed), while Ford chose to introduce the Mustang Mach-E while retaining the regular coupe, introducing a new S650 generation. GM and Stellantis appeared to be under the impression that EV demand would grow at a rapid rate. That's proven to be a miscalculation, and with EV incentives expiring soon, this is unlikely to change. Our best bet? If the Camaro returns someday - and it may well not - it probably won't be a coupe, and it probably will be a hybrid. But if it sticks to Reuss's formula of beauty, function, and fun, that may not be such a bad thing. Why Ram had to revive its legendary Hemi V-8 engine

American pickup truck buyers are having some trouble adjusting to a new age of tightening emissions requirements and electrification. Stellantis — the parent company of brands like Ram Trucks, Jeep and Dodge — has been hit especially hard. The company briefly removed its popular gas-powered Hemi V-8 engine from much of its lineup, including from the Dodge Challenger and Charger, and the Ram 1500 half-ton pickup. Ram fans revolted. In an effort to revive the brand, recently installed CEO Antonio Filosa rehired company veteran Tim Kuniskis to run Ram. Kuniskis is also overseeing all the North American brands, including the reformed in-house performance shop Street and Racing Technology, or SRT. One of Kuniskis's first moves has been bringing the V-8 back to the 1500 pickup truck. Ram Truck sales had dropped every quarter since the company switched the engine in the 1500 to an inline-six-cylinder called the Hurricane. The Jeep and Ram brands are especially important to Stellantis. RBC Capital has estimated that about 50% of the automaker's profits come from those two brands. Kuniskis said dropping the Hemi would lose Ram at least 30,000 truck sales every year. "With loyalty running in 75% to 80% in the truck segment, you don't want to lose any of those customers," he said. Ed Kim, President and chief analyst at AutoPacific, a company that surveys car owners, said he had driven a vehicle with the new Hurricane engine. "It's a very nice engine," Kim said. "It's very refined. It's very smooth. On paper it's better in every way — well, better in many ways." But the Hemi had a certain brand name and reputation among Ram owners the Hurricane could not replace, he said. "Everybody, even if you don't know what Hemi is, you know, the term," Kuniskis said. "'Oh, it's got a Hemi.'" The decision to go "greener" — or use smaller engines and invest in electric vehicles — kicked into high gear when the Euro-American Fiat-Chrysler merged with France's Groupe PSA in 2019. PSA CEO Carlos Tavares took the helm of the newly formed Stellantis. Some of those changes alienated fans. "The wrong people were trying to guide America, American enthusiasts, in a direction they did not want to go and still don't want to go," said Mike Gresham, director of recruiting for Central Texas Mopars, a car club dedicated to cars in what is commonly considered the Chrysler or Mopar family of brands — Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler, and Ram, along with defunct brands like Plymouth. "Americans associate truck performance with V-8 engines and Ram in particular," Kim said. "The Ram customer in particular, really, really, really loves the idea of having that big American V-8 under the hood." Kuniskis expects about 40% of Ram buyers sooner or later to settle on the Hemi engine. That's a lot higher than the Ford-150 V-8 take rate of about 25%, but slightly lower than General Motors — which Kuniskis attributed to the fact that, apart from a diesel, GM offers a choice of two V-8s or a four-cylinder. Ford F-150 buyers can swap in a V-8 for free on most versions of the truck. Ram buyers have to pay an extra $1,200 unless they get the high-end Limited or Longhorn trims. Kuniskis said he thinks a lot of people will choose the Hemi anyway. "Hemi is not really just a V-8. It's kind of a brand in and of itself. It's become a thing," he said. Dealer replaces Ford F-150 of man who ran over alleged church shooter

A Michigan dealership has replaced the 2018 Ford F-150 of Richard Pryor, who ran over a man he saw firing a rifle and handgun outside a suburban Detroit church, reports Automotive News. Pryor, a deacon at CrossPointe Community Church in Wayne, Michigan, was arriving late for June 22 services when he saw the shooter, clad in a tactical vest. "I'm just realizing there's no time," Pryor told Automotive News and other media July 10, saying the man, later identified as Brian Browning, who had attended the church occasionally with his mother. "I didn't have a weapon on me, in the truck or anything, so what are your options?" Pryor ran over Browning, who reports say began firing at the truck. Browning was killed by two other church staff members armed with their own guns. Police told ABC News that the actions of the three church staff "prevented a large-scale mass shooting." But while this use of a vehicle as a weapon appears to have done some good, others, such as the 2017 attack on protestors in Charlottesville, Virginia, with a Dodge Challenger, show that like any other weapon, a car can be dangerous in the wrong hands. The truck was Pryor's only vehicle, and was left out of commission after the incident. Jack Demmer Ford reportedly gave Pryor a free two-year lease on a new F-150, worth about $70,000. Full-size pickups can get much more expensive than that, of course, given the tendency of Ford and other brands to devise lineups top-heavy with high-end models. The F-Series-encompassing the half-ton F-150 and the heavy-duty Super Duty trucks-has been the bestselling vehicle line in the United States for decades, and that trend continued with Ford's recently-reported second-quarter sales results. The automaker reported an 11.5% increase in F-Series sales to 222,459-the best quarter for the truck line since 2019. However, Ford also issued 89 recalls in the first six months of 2025, surpassing a record for annual recalls set by General Motors in 2014. The F-150 is included in some of them, including one recall of over a million vehicles to address a software issue that prevents rearview cameras from displaying a proper live feed.
