Man accused of stalking ex-girlfriend, crashing into her car in Baton Rouge arrested
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A Baton Rouge man was arrested on Sunday, May 29, after being accused of stalking a woman and ramming her car. According to an affidavit, officers with the Baton Rouge Police Department were called to a hit-and-run incident in the 2600 block of Coursey Boulevard on Wednesday, May 25. When they arrived, the victim told the officers that her ex-boyfriend, Edward Berryman Jr., 36, intentionally hit her vehicle. She also shared that she has a restraining order against him. The victim told detectives that she was leaving the hair store when Berryman blocked her car in with his black Dodge Challenger. She said she put her car in reverse and exited the parking lot. She later accused Berryman of following her through a neighborhood and ramming the driver's side of her car. Berryman exited the vehicle after the crash, but the victim pulled off. The affidavit states that Berryman then followed her onto Coursey Boulevard, where he hit her vehicle again, running her off the road and disabling her car. At the time of the crash, the victim's 15-year-old child was in the passenger seat. She said she captured the collision on her dashcam. After reviewing the dash camera footage, detectives found it supported the victim's claims. She later explained that the relationship recently ended and that she filed the restraining order in October 2024. While on the scene, detectives saw a Black Challenger with a missing passenger front tire. They took the vehicle in as evidence. Berryman was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated criminal damage to property, stalking, violation of protective orders, and a bench warrant. Dodge Challenger Fleeing Police Rides The Wall
Read the full story on The Auto Wire Running from police is stupid, but this suspect in a Dodge Challenger does something even dumber and pays the price. He doesn't just run from his local police but instead tests out Georgia State Patrol, who are notorious for pitting out fleeing cars at high speeds. It's a horrible the dashcam footage, a trooper sits in his blacked out car on the side of a highway in the Savannah area, looking for speeders. He gets a hit with a gray Dodge Challenger going 88 mph. for most people, that means pulling over and taking a ticket, then doing online traffic school. But once the driver sees the trooper behind him with his lights going, instead of pulling over he floors it. In no time he's going 134 mph and weaving through traffic, obviously trying to lose the cop. Usually, when this happens the suspect either has warrants for his arrest or has drugs in the car. As the suspect exits the highway and takes to city surface streets the danger soars. After all, with intersections, narrower roads, and regular citizens traveling slower, the risk of a serious accident multiplies drastically. The trooper at one point has a close call with one innocent motorist. As he's blasting down a straightaway, trying to keep up with the Challenger, two cars are in the left lane. The trooper is in the right, lights and sirens active, when the lead car suddenly decides to go into the right lane, probably after hearing the approaching siren. Thankfully, the trooper is able to squeeze past, but the move almost caused a serious accident. When the GSP trooper finally catches up with the fleeing Dodge, it's on a larger road with a concrete wall in the median. The trooper wastes no time pitting the suspect out, sending the Challenger into the wall backwards as it bounces against it repeatedly, almost like the muscle car is doing some weird dance. Don't run from Georgia troopers – that's the lesson. Sure enough, according to the trooper's report, there was an illicit substance in the Mopar. By running from police instead of just pulling over, the kid made things even worse. Image via State Boyzzz/YouTube Join our Newsletter, subscribe to our YouTube page, and follow us on Facebook.

Karim Reyad murder trial postponed to September
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The trial of Karim Reyad, charged with murder in a crash in 2023 that killed a 66-year-old woman, was postponed to September after a defense attorney on Friday said an expert witness was still working on the case. The trial, which had been set for next month, is now scheduled for Sept. 2. Reyad, 20, is alleged to have been driving more than 100 mph while impaired by marijuana when his Dodge Challenger slammed into a Honda Civic near the intersection of Campus Park Drive and Evening Star Way in southwest Bakersfield. The Honda's driver, Gayla Sue Price, was pronounced dead at the scene of the April 18, 2023, crash. Reyad is charged with second-degree murder and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, among other crimes. Vigil held for 11-year-old boy hit by a car in East Bakersfield There is no standard legal measurement for impairment by marijuana — something Reyad's attorneys have raised at prior hearings. They've also questioned the reliability of witness statements and data obtained from the heavily-damaged Dodge. A prosecutor has said Reyad's driving behavior on the day of the crash and the days leading up to it rose to the level of implied malice required for the second-degree murder count. Reyad bought the Dodge on April 12, and replaced the tires twice before the crash because he performed frequent burnouts at his home and other locations, according to his statement to Bakersfield police investigators. A week before the collision, he was arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired by marijuana. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Southern California nursing student killed by suspected DUI driver
Loved ones are devastated after a 19-year-old nursing student was killed by a suspected DUI driver in San Bernardino County. Larenz Fondren was pursuing his passion and was two months away from graduating and becoming a licensed vocational nurse. Larenz's family said working in healthcare was his dream, inspired by his own lifelong battle with sickle cell disease. On May 2, he was on his way to work at a clinical rotation when he crossed the road near Washington Street and Center Drive in Colton shortly before 7 a.m. Surveillance video captured the moment Larenz, who was dressed in scrubs, crossed the street and was suddenly struck by a speeding driver. 'My son flew 20 feet in the air,' Wayne Fondren, Larenz's father, told KTLA's Shelby Nelson. 'When I went out there, it was him. I just cried, I couldn't do anything. Just imagine that's your son or someone else's. The pain, what I'm feeling. He took my son's life.' Police said Larenz was later struck by multiple cars after the initial impact. The driver, Antonio Medrano, 30, of Colton, was arrested at the scene for gross vehicular manslaughter while driving under the influence and for driving without a license. He was booked on $100,000 bail. Two days later, Medrano paid the bail and was released. After learning the suspect was out on the streets again, the victim's family said they were beyond outraged. 'My question is, how do you kill somebody on Friday and get out Sunday morning?' Wayne said. 'With a DUI and your license having been suspended numerous times and now you've killed my son.' A spokesperson with the Colton Police Department said the crash remained under investigation as they awaited toxicology results. But nearly a month later, family members said they have yet to receive an update. 'They did say that [the suspect] openly admitted to smoking marijuana,' said Felisha Fondren, the victim's sister. Video on social media showed the suspect's car, which appeared to be a custom-painted blue and white Dodge Challenger, allegedly speeding in the bike lane moments before striking Larenz. According to court records, Medrano has a reckless driving history, which includes previous infractions for speeding. The 19-year-old's family said they hope the suspect is convicted and removed from the streets before another person is hurt or killed. 'We want justice for Larenz Fondren, that's all we want, is justice,' Wayne said. 'There was no bad part about him,' said Felisha Fondren, the victim's mother. 'Not just saying that because he's our son. If you talk to anybody [about him,] you would know that.' The Fondren family will be holding a public event at Cal Skate in Grand Terrace on June 7 to celebrate what would have been Lorenz's 20th birthday. The San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office said they are aware of the case and is awaiting final reports to review before deciding whether to file charges.
