Donny Osmond celebrates 47th proposal anniversary with a sweet picture of wife Debbie
Donny Osmond and his wife Debbie Osmond are celebrating a special relationship milestone. After meeting each other more than five decades ago, while still in high school, the couple is now celebrating the 47th anniversary of when Donny Osmond proposed to Debbie Osmond. In a 2016 Facebook post, Donny Osmond revealed that he first met Debbie Osmond when 'she was 15 years old.' The legendary performer continued, saying Debbie Osmond 'was the hot babe cheerleader in town and she dated my brother Jay before she dated me.' Donny Osmond said it took him 'three whole years to win her heart and convince her to marry me.' As Debbie Osmond played 'hard to get,' Donny Osmond attempted to win her over shortly before her 17th birthday in 1976. 'I wanted to plan something really, really special for our first kiss,' so he mapped out a scavenger hunt that led her to Utah Lake, he explained in an interview with Woman's World. After returning to the limo where Donny Osmond was, the only way Debbie Osmond could receive the final clue was if she gave him a kiss. 'And it was fireworks, let me tell you!' Two years later, in 1978, Donny and Debbie Osmond exchanged their vows. Now, they share five kids and 14 grandchildren. On Thursday, May 8, Donny Osmond took to Instagram to share a photo of himself and Debbie Osmond in 1982 in honor of their 47th proposal anniversary. 'Thank you, Debbie, for saying yes to my proposal 47 years ago and for sharing this incredible and crazy adventure through show business with me,' he wrote in the caption. 'You've been more than I could have ever hoped for—my partner, my anchor, my inspiration, and my dear wife,' Donny Osmond concluded. 'Happy 47 years!! You both have been blessed with the best partner to go thru life with,' one commenter wrote. 'Wow, it's an amazing picture! You both looked fabulous back when and fabulous together today happy anniversary!' another added. Over Easter, Donny Osmond shared a photo of himself, his wife, and their ever growing family all together. In another post in February, shared on Debbie Osmond's birthday, he referred to her as his 'teenage crush,' the 'best decision he ever made,' and his 'eternal love.'

The actress, singer and director was in attendance during the opening night of Broadway's Real Women Have Curves in New York City on Sunday, April 27, where she opened up to PEOPLE about her time making 1999's Joseph with Osmond, 67. "I remember Donny Osmond always telling hilarious stories about when he was in The Osmonds," says Friedman, 65, referring to her former costar's famous family band that also consisted of his brothers Alan, Wayne, Merrill and Jay Osmond. The Merrily We Roll Along director also reflected on what she learned in making the movie adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's beloved stage musical, in which she played the Narrator alongside Osmond's titular Joseph. "I just remember the ensemble thing, and also how I got to learn about cameras," she tells PEOPLE. "Because it was filmed ... we recorded it but we had a very short rehearsal period, so I had to really understand technique of getting into the camera and making sure I was in frame." First presented as a stage production in 1972 with Bill Hutton in the title role, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is based on Joseph from the Bible's Book of Genesis and was Webber, 77, and book/lyrics writer Tim Rice's first musical to be performed publicly. After first playing the title role on stage in the early to mid '90s and, later, in the 1999 film, he returned to the production last year in the villainous role of Pharaoh at the Edinburgh Playhouse in Scotland. Osmond spoke with PEOPLE late last year amid his Joseph run in Scotland, which began with performances on Dec. 3 and concluded on Dec. 29. He admitted that it can feel "pretty bizarre ... to hear someone else doing the material you did for six years, 2,000 performances and more." (He even started singing a Joseph line by accident one night!) But he's "good" with his evolution now. "Opening night it was like, 'What is this going to be like?' " Osmond told PEOPLE at the time. "And as soon as they set me down on the chair on stage and the lights came up, the applause and ovation ... it was absolutely amazing. And then when Joseph comes out and ['Poor Poor Joseph'] began, I looked at the audience and I said, 'Déjà vu!' " Read the original article on People

When a winter at Alta meant living in the "jaws of death"
On Valentine's Day 140 years ago, terrible news began to trickle down to Salt Lake City: A massive avalanche had killed 16 people and wiped out almost the entire town of Alta. This is Old News, where we tiptoe onto the cornices of Utah's past. The big picture: Avalanches were so common at Alta during the late 1800s that the catastrophe was described as almost an inevitability for the few dozen people who spent winters in the mining camp. The Salt Lake Tribune called Alta a " death trap," while the Evening Chronicle called it a " doomed place." The Deseret News described a winter at Alta as "living almost in the jaws of death." "The same old story from Alta is told again this morning," the Herald-Republican reported. The intrigue: Salt Lake's newspapers reported anger and judgment was growing in the city against the "foolhardy" people who lived at Alta year-round — right after almost a third of them were killed. What they said:"The poor men and women who have been ruthlessly stricken down were not in Alta because they preferred the isolation, the discomforts and dangers of the snow bound camp to the pleasures and safety of city homes. … They were there for the bread that they must have," the Herald-Republican argued. "It is necessity that takes them there," the Deseret News agreed. "It is not the lack of sense, nor perhaps a want of appreciation of the presence of a great danger … which has probably brought untimely death to 100 persons within a comparatively few years." Yes, but: Five children and one woman were among the victims; even the miners' defenders said they should have found accommodations in the city for their families. By the numbers: All but seven of Alta's buildings were swept away in the Feb. 13, 1885 avalanche — about three-fourths of the town, the Evening Chronicle estimated.
