Popular Tarrant village race returns with 40th anniversary special
The Tarrant Valley 10 is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a special race day. The Tarrant Valley 10 (TV10) is set to take place in the scenic village of Tarrant Monkton, with the Langton Arms pub gearing up to host the runners and spectators. The race is scheduled for Sunday, June 1, at 10.30am, and will be followed by a one-mile children's race. Runners can pre-book online at to save at least £5 compared to the on-the-day price. (Image: Tarrant Valley 10) Every participant in the adult 10km race and the children's race will receive a special 40th Anniversary commemorative medal. Additional prize categories have also been introduced, which include the first male over 70, first female over 65 and first male and female under 20. The event promises a fun-filled morning for everyone, with a BBQ, ice-creams, teas, coffees and a raffle. Rogue Racer will provide chip timing for both the adult and children's races through the picturesque Cranborne Chase countryside. The Langton Arms, a village pub owned by local farmers James and Barbara Cossins, will be supporting the event. The Cossins' "Love Local, Trust Local" initiative promotes quality for Dorset suppliers and businesses. The pub offers a locally sourced menu and a variety of drinks. (Image: Tarrant Valley 10) Proceeds from the non-profit village event will go to the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance charity and Horatio's Garden. The air ambulance service, funded by donations, completed nearly 3,000 missions last year. Horatio's Garden provides garden sanctuaries for spinal injury patients, offering them respite.

After the race, participants are invited for lunch at the Langton Arms, which will be open and serving food. The not-for-profit village event will donate its profits to the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance charity and Horatio's Garden. The Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance charity flew almost 3,000 missions last year, while Horatio's Garden creates garden sanctuaries for NHS Spinal Injury Centres. A spokesperson for the event said: "This is a special year for us as it is the 40th anniversary since our inaugural race way back in 1985. "To celebrate this, every runner will receive a special 40th anniversary commemorative medal, including all the runners in the children's race."

Woman given 'second chance at life' after M5 crash
A woman who survived a serious motorway crash said she would not have survived without the air Reid was on the M5 when she was hit by a car travelling at 70mph on Christmas Day and Somerset Air Ambulance (DSAA) airlifted her to Southmead Hospital in Bristol, where she was placed in an induced coma for six days while undergoing multiple surgeries."My growing strength and the achievements I have made since then, cause me to reflect regularly on how things could have been so different, without the quick and concise intervention of all the emergency services that day," Ms Reid said. She said she was treated for multiple rib fractures, lacerations to her liver and spleen and a blood clot in her lung, and received a metal implant in her lower left leg."Despite the seriousness of my injuries and the initial prognosis, I was only in hospital for a total of 21 days and made a miraculous recovery," Ms Reid said."Four years have nearly passed and I have returned to my life as an active mother of two growing boys, as well as successfully conceiving and carrying my daughter Niamh to full term, despite fears that this may never be possible. "I am forever grateful to have been given a second chance at life." Ms Reid shared her story as the DSAA celebrated its 25th anniversary last the early years, DSAA only operated five days a week with a small team of pilots and paramedics. The aircraft was a Bolkow 105 helicopter with limited space and resembled the skills and equipment of a road ambulance and its 2025 and over 29,000 missions later, DSAA's critical care team now bring the hospital to the patient 19 hours a day, 365 days a Hacket, CEO of Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance said: "In 2016, we were tasked about 800 times, last year it was nearly 3,000. "This continuous, step-by-step growth in care, in such a short period of time, has been nothing short of incredible."
