Dos Santos' familiarity with Vietnam could be key to good result for Malaysia
Malaysia's Endrick Dos Santos in action against Taiwan during the World Cup qualifier match at Bukit Jalil National Stadium last night. — IZZRAFIQ ALIAS/The Star KUALA LUMPUR: Naturalised playmaker Endrick dos Santos is entering familiar territory when Malaysia take on Vietnam in a crucial 2027 Asian Cup third-round qualifier at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil next Tuesday. The 30-year-old Dos Santos' ties with Vietnam run deep. Currently on loan from Johor Darul Ta'zim to Ho Chi Minh City FC in 1, he has strong relationships with his club teammates and coaches. And that comes with some valuable inside knowledge which he hopes to utilise and help the Harimau Malaya gain an advantage. Malaysia have yet to beat Vietnam in their last few outings but Dos Santos believes this time around, things are different, not just because of home advantage but due to the meticulous preparation and unity in the camp. "We've analysed the Vietnam team with our analysts. They're fast, strong, and they fight. But like every team, they have weaknesses. We've trained hard to follow the coach's plan. I trust the team and the process 100 percent, this will be a good game." Dos Santos still has two more matches left on his contract in Vietnam before discussions about his future take place. But for now, his focus is fully on Malaysia. With several new Malaysian-heritage players joining the squad, Endrick's multilingual background, where he is fluent in Portuguese, Spanish, English, and some Malay, has made him a natural bridge in the dressing room. "We speak a bit of everything to help each other. I try to make the new guys feel comfortable. The staff and players are all walking in the same direction now. That's very important. We think alike, we move as one and we're focused only on the win." While Vietnam will be a tough test, Dos Santos is confident Malaysia can rise to the occasion - especially with the home crowd behind them. "It's 11 vs 11, but we're playing at home. That changes things. The fans give us a big push and we need them. We'll do everything to get the three points."

Dos Santos aims to help Malaysia break Vietnam jinx with 'inside knowledge'
KUALA LUMPUR: A Brazilian-born footballer playing in Ho Chi Minh City, could help Malaysia beat Vietnam in an Asian Cup qualifier on June 10 at Bukit Jalil. Endrick dos Santos, currently on loan from JDT to Ho Chi Minh City FC, believes his "inside knowledge" of Vietnamese football could give Malaysia the edge. The midfielder has spent the past year playing in the 1, where many of Vietnam's national players also ply their trade. Dos Santos said in Kuala Lumpur today that he has studied the Golden Star Warriors' strengths and weaknesses. And he has held discussions with his national teammates and Harimau Malaya analysts. "They are fast, strong and aggressive, but they also have weaknesses. But I believe we should be in a good position again," he said. Dos Santos, 30, revealed light-heartedly that even the Ho Chi Minh City coach (Phung Thanh Phuong) and the team's players told him to put on a big performance for Malaysia against Vietnam. Malaysia have not beaten Vietnam in over a decade, but Dos Santos is confident that the tide is turning. "I trust the guys, we are 100 per cent in a good way. It should be a good game. We know the opponents are strong, but we have stepped up," he said. Dos Santos believes that playing in the Vietnamese league has given him valuable insight into their national team's playing philosophy and style. He praised the strong team spirit and adaptability among the Malaysia players, especially with the arrival of new faces into the squad.

Andrei Arlovski Set for Bare-Knuckle Debut Against Geronimo Dos Santos
Staying relevant in the UFC is no easy feat. Even for former champions, time and competition wear on, and eventually, new paths must be forged. While few walk away on top, others choose to go out swinging—and sometimes in entirely different arenas. That may be the case for one of UFC's most durable veterans, whose bare-knuckle debut could also serve as a final bow. According to an official post from BKFC on Instagram, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Andrei Arlovski is set to compete at BKFC 76 on June 21 in Texas. The caption read: 'ANDREI ARLOVSKI IS LEAVING THE GLOVES BEHIND JUNE 21 IN TEXAS!' At 46 years old, the phrase leaving the gloves behind carries weight, possibly hinting that this bout may mark the end of Arlovski's decorated career. Arlovski's last outing was a TKO victory over Terrance Hodges at DX 1, a smaller event that helped the veteran regain momentum before stepping into the BKFC spotlight. Arlovski's UFC journey began in 2000. He became interim UFC heavyweight champion in 2005 by defeating Tim Sylvia, later being promoted to undisputed champ. Over his career, he fought in over 40 UFC bouts, with wins over names like Fabricio Werdum, Travis Browne, Frank Mir, and Antonio Silva. Though he experienced ups and downs, Arlovski remained a staple of the heavyweight division well into his 40s, earning a reputation for longevity and heart. OctagonGetty Standing across from Arlovski will be Geronimo Dos Santos, a 44-year-old Brazilian powerhouse and fellow former UFC heavyweight. Dos Santos was scheduled to fight in the UFC in 2012 against Gabriel Gonzaga, but the bout was ultimately canceled due to his pre-fight medical exams. Two years passed, and the Nevada Athletic Commission still would not clear him, so he asked to be released from his UFC contract. He's competed across various international promotions, known for his knockout power and aggressive style. Dos Santos also has one BKFC fight under his belt—at BKFC 71, he scored a knockout victory over fellow UFC veteran Aleksei Oleinik. Advertisement Fans will soon see whether this clash of former UFC heavyweights marks the end—or the rebirth—of a legendary fighting career. Celebration at Cristiano Ronaldo household! Al Nassr star's eldest son gets maiden Portugal U-15 call-up
Five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo's eldest son Cristiano dos Santos has been called up to the Portugal U-15 football team for the first time on Tuesday. The development of Dos Santos getting selected in the youth national team was shared by the Al Nassr star who took to Instagram to share the exciting news. Like his father, the 14-year-old Dos Santos currently plays for Al Nassr youth team in Saudi Arabia. He also had spells at Juventus and Manchester United - Ronaldo's former clubs. Portugal U-15 will face the likes of Japan, Greece and England at the Vlatko Markovic youth tournament in Croatia scheduled to be held from May 13 to 18. Beaming with pride, Ronaldo wrote on Instagram, 'Proud of you, son.' Dos Santos's made a move to Al Nassr from Manchester United in 2023 after Ronaldo left the Old Trafford following a fall out with then Red Devils boss Erik Ten Hag. Prior to that, Dos Santos represented Juventus at the youth level. Following his move to Al Nassr, Dos Santos impressed everyone in the Saudi Arabian youth division. He has also been at Real Madrid academy. According to a BBC report, Dos Santos has scored as many as 58 goals in a season during his time with Juventus. He has also played alongside former Manchester United great Wayne Rooney's son, Kai, at the Old Trafford during Ronaldo's second stint with English giants. Notably, Dos Santos is also eligible to play for the United States - his country of birth - and Spain because of Ronaldo's residency when his father was playing for Real Madrid.
