9 of the most iconic celebrity on-screen looks, from Dimple Kapadia's polka dot set to Deepika Padukone's blue sari

Bollywood has long been a trendsetter, not just for its music and storytelling, but for its unforgettable style moments that left an indelible mark on fashion. Some on-screen looks became instant hits, sparking trends that spilled over into everyday wardrobes, weddings, and pop culture conversations. Here's a tribute to nine of the most iconic fashion moments from Bollywood films, outfits, and styles that continue to inspire, years after they first appeared on the screen. In the 1970s, Kapadia burst onto the scene with a youthful charm that made her an instant style icon. Her polka dot knotted blouse and matching black skirt from Bobby shocked and enamoured a generation. That simple, breezy outfit became a favourite among teenagers and remains a nostalgic reference for retro fashion enthusiasts. Bold, rebellious, and ahead of her time, Zeenat Aman brought the hippie aesthetic into mainstream Bollywood with her look in Hare Krishna Hare Ram. Beaded accessories, flowing silhouettes, and oversized sunglasses captured the essence of the '70s counterculture and made Zeenat a poster girl for bohemian chic. In a film packed with youthful energy and heartfelt moments, Deepika Padukone's transformation scene in a stunning electric blue sari became a defining fashion moment of the 2010s. It inspired countless wedding looks and cocktail party styles across India. Kareena Kapoor's role as the fashionable and unapologetic 'Poo' wasn't just about witty one-liners. Her pastel sharara, featured in the iconic Bole Chudiyan song, set new standards for festive wear. With its delicate hues and modern silhouette, the look became a wedding staple, cementing Kareena's place as a Bollywood fashion trailblazer. Sometimes, it's the simplest accessories that create the most significant impact. Shah Rukh Khan's 'COOL' chain necklace, seen in several of his hit films from the '90s and early 2000s, became synonymous with cool, boy-next-door charm. Sizzling yet sophisticated, Priyanka Chopra's golden sari in Dostana took Bollywood glamour to a new level. The shimmering fabric, paired with contemporary styling, became a benchmark for modern ethnic wear. It quickly became the go-to look for red carpets and festive occasions. Not all iconic looks are about glitz. Sometimes, simplicity steals the spotlight. Deepika's understated cotton suits, with soft bindis and breezy scarves in Piku, resonated deeply with young women seeking style rooted in comfort and authenticity. Her relatable wardrobe sparked a revival of classic Indian wear for everyday fashion. Whether loved or criticised, Salman Khan's edgy haircut from Tere Naam left an undeniable imprint on pop culture. The distinct hairstyle sparked a nationwide trend, becoming both a style statement and a subject of countless conversations, proving how powerful on-screen looks can be, even when polarising. Few Bollywood costumes have the iconic status of Raveena Tandon's bright yellow sari in Tip Tip Barsa Pani. Set against the backdrop of pouring rain, the look became the ultimate symbol of Bollywood sensuality. It remains a timeless reference point for rain-drenched romantic sequences and a favourite in music video recreations.

Shatrughan Sinha wanted to get plastic surgery done because of the scars on his face, Dev Anand stopped him: ‘Yehi tumhara signature style ho jayega'

Shatrughan Sinha who is known for a long list of movies like 'Mere Apne', 'Kaalicharan', 'Dostana', 'Kaala Patthar', 'Dostana', among others did not fit into the quintessential hero mode when he came in. He also looked quite different. But the actor managed to carve his own niche. In a recent interview, he has revealed that he even considered to fix his face which was quite unconventional. But Dev Anand stopped it. Sinha recalled it in a recent interview and revealed how the 'Guide' actor encouraged him to retain his individuality. He said during a chat with Curly Tales, 'Sapne toh bohot kuch the, par darr lagta tha ki ye kati-phati shakal lekar kaise actor banunga. Log kehte bhi the ki iss kati-pati shakal ka kuch karo… uss time par hota hai. Main toh chala bhi gaya tha, doctor se baat bhi kar li thi ki plastic surgery karwa kar isko theek karo… iska ilaaj karo. Aur unhone bola ki kar bhi denge. (I had big dreams, but I was afraid, how would I become an actor with such a scarred face? People would say, 'Do something about this scarred face.' At the time, I agreed. I even went to a doctor and asked for plastic surgery to fix it. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Secure Your Child's Future with Strong English Fluency Planet Spark Learn More Undo The doctor said it could be done).' He added further, 'Lekin Dev saab ke paas main gaya… woh mujhe bohot maante the… aur unhone kaha ki kabhi mat karna. Tumhari jo personality hai, tum jab kaamyab ho jaoge toh yahi tumhara signature style ho jayega. Unhone kaha ki dekho, mere daanton ke beech mein ek gaddha hai, aur maine aaj tak usse fill up nahi karwaya hai… aur log aaj usse yaad rakhte hain. Toh jo tumko tumhara minus point lagta hai, wohi kal tumhara plus point banega. (But then I went to Dev saab, he believed in me deeply, and he told me, 'Never do it. Your personality is unique. One day, this will become your signature style.' He told me, 'Look, I have a gap between my teeth, and I've never filled it… now people remember me for that. What you think is a minus today could be your biggest plus tomorrow).' Shatrughan Sinha and Dev Anand worked together in films like 'Prem Pujari', 'Gambler' and 'Shareef Budmaash'.

Raj Khosla's new biography

When author Amborish Roychoudhury started writing Raj Khosla: The Authorized Biography, he discovered that people around him didn't know much about Khosla's contributions to Hindi cinema. Only when he posted some iconic songs from his films like C.I.D. (1956), Woh Kaun Thi (1964) and Dostana (1980) did they recognise his works. This is why this book, co-written by Khosla's daughters, Anita Khosla and Uma Khosla Kapur, is important.

Priyanka Chopra's Vada Pav Snub Has Fans Saying, ‘She Is ‘Pardesi Girl' Now'

Last Updated: Priyanka Chopra earned the Desi Girl title after her popular song and dance sequence in the 2008 film Dostana became a huge hit. Priyanka Chopra Jonas, fondly known as our Desi Girl, is currently basking in the positive reviews for her latest Hollywood action thriller, Heads of State. Streaming on Prime Video, the film also stars Idris Elba and John Cena in leading roles. While the movie continues to win hearts globally, some of Priyanka's Indian fans seem a bit disappointed, and the reason might surprise you: it's her food choices after years of living abroad. In a viral video from the Heads of State red carpet premiere, Priyanka takes part in a fun 'This or That' rapid-fire round, where she's asked to pick between two popular dishes. When asked to choose between empanadas and samosas, Priyanka hesitated for a moment before saying, 'Depends on the mood." Next up was a choice between enchiladas and chicken tikka masala—a tough one, as she ended up picking 'both." But the real surprise came when she was asked to choose between vada pav and hot dogs. Without missing a beat, she picked the latter, saying, 'I love a vada pav, but hot dog is my weakness." For obvious reasons, her answer didn't go well with the 'Desi' fans, prompting many to share their reactions to the clip. An Instagram user commented, 'She's not our 'Desi girl' anymore. She's 'pardesi girl' now." Another one wrote, 'Who chooses Hot dog over Vada pav, absolute blasphemy." Another comment read, 'Even if I were not an Indian, I would pick samosa. I mean, have you met a samosa?!" View this post on Instagram A post shared by Pushpek Sidhu (@pushpeksidhu_) However, some also came out in her support. A user shared, 'I hope people getting offended by her food choices are the ones who only eat desi food and never choose eating fries over homemade dal chawal." Another one shared, 'Sasural walon ko naraz nahi kar sakti na (Can't make her in-laws sad)." Coming back to her work front, Priyanka will be next seen in director SS Rajamouli's next project opposite South star Mahesh Babu. The film has been tentatively titled SSMB29. Besides this, she also has the Hollywood action drama, The Bluff, in her kitty. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
