Lake Mead ‘actively working' on temporary launch site north of Hemenway Harbor
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Lake Mead officials say they are 'actively working' on a temporary launch site north of Hemenway Harbor. That could bring a bit of relief to boaters who are bracing for long lines as a project to extend the ramp at Hemenway nears, set to begin on Monday, June 2. An announcement on social media Wednesday afternoon dropped the news of the alternative site. 'Details on this new location will be announced soon. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to maintain access to the lake while enhancing visitor experience,' according to a Facebook post. A private Facebook page devoted to boating at the lake has had some posts criticizing the National Park Service (NPS) for clogging traffic at Hemenway just as the busy season arrives. Others have shared information about ramps that are used less frequently, such as Temple Bar on the Arizona side of the lake. NPS explained what's going on at Hemenway earlier this month, and has posed a web page dedicated to the project here: 'Hemenway Harbor is Lake Mead NRA's most popular and heavily utilized launch ramp and is closest to the Las Vegas metro area. This construction project directly contributes to accomplishing the outcomes detailed in the Sustainable Low Water Access Plan (the Plan) and Environmental Assessment's (EA). Specifically, the selected preferred alternative for Hemenway Harbor will allow LAKE to extend the launch ramp down to approximately 1,000 feet to maintain recreational opportunities and concessions services in the area,' according to the website. Ramps and services are available at Callville Bay, Echo Bay, Temple Bar and South Cove. Also, ramps are available at Lake Mohave at Cottonwood Cove and Katherine Landing. EA cancels Black Panther game and closes studio developing it
EA is cancelling its Black Panther game and closing the studio creating it, Cliffhanger Games, as part of a larger round of layoffs at the company, IGN reports. The third-person action-adventure game was originally announced in July 2023 as one of several Marvel projects being developed at EA studios. IGN writes that a smaller number of people are being laid off than the previous round of cuts that impacted Titanfall developer Respawn, but EA is still eliminating roles outside of Cliffhanger, including people on the publisher's "mobile and central teams." EA is reportedly telling staff that the layoffs are a way to "sharpen our focus and put our creative energy behind the most significant growth opportunities." As of right now, those "opportunities" include an Iron Man game in development at EA Motive, the next Star Wars Jedi game from Respawn, and new entries in a few key franchises, like The Sims, Battlefield, Skate and Apex Legends. Beyond that, the company has EA Sports and the next Mass Effect game, though Bioware has gone through multiple rounds of layoffs since 2023, so there's uncertainty there, too. In a similar way to how it approached Bioware's restructuring, IGN reports that EA is trying to find roles for at least some Cliffhanger Games staff in other parts of the company. Engadget has contacted EA for comment and will update this article if we hear back. EA growing disinterest in licensed games as been public since at least February 2024, when CEO Andrew Wilson announced that the company was "moving away from development of future licensed IP that we do not believe will be successful in our changing industry." The company recently announced a new strategy game using the Star Wars license — Star Wars Zero Company — but that seems more like an outlier than the norm. EA's Black Panther game wasn't the only project featuring the character — Amy Hennig's Marvel 19943: Rise of Hydra hasn't been cancelled yet — but it does seems strange the company gave up so easily. Black Panther made over $1.3 billion during its original run in theaters. It seems entirely possible the same audience that enjoyed the movie would show up for a new game featuring their favorite Marvel character.

EA cancels Black Panther game
EA's Black Panther game has been cancelled. According to reporting from IGN, EA announced the news via an email to employees. IGN also reports that as a result of the cancellation, Cliffhanger Studios has been shut down. Cliffhanger Studios was a new games studio created to develop Black Panther and run by Kevin Stephens who was the studio head for the now shuttered Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor developer Monolith Studios. Beyond an initial announcement in 2023, all that was known of Black Panther was that it was a single-player game with an original narrative and developed in collaboration with Marvel Studios. EA and Marvel announced a three-game partnership deal in 2022. In addition to Black Panther, the other two games in the deal was an Iron Man title currently in production at Motive Studios, and an as-yet unannounced action game. According to IGN, the cancellation comes with layoffs in other sectors of EA's business. The publisher recently announced an RTO mandate requiring employees come in at least three days a week and a round of layoffs occurred earlier this year impacting between 300 and 400 employees. The Verge has reached out to EA for comment. The game's cancellation does not spell the end for the hope of a Black Panther led title. Over at Skybound Entertainment, Amy Henning and team are working on Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra which features Captain America and Black Panther as playable characters.
