One photo, one post, one heartwarming return
What happens in Vegas ... sometimes ends up on Facebook and back in your mailbox. Driving the news: Jane Moon of Seattle thought a treasured photo of her and her boyfriend at EDC Las Vegas 2025 — an electronic music festival held last month — was gone for good after she lost the Polaroid at the airport. That is, until a stranger found it and posted it in a Facebook group: "I know I'd be heartbroken to lose this if it were mine." A friend alerted Moon to the post before she had even finished unpacking, she told Axios. Why it matters: The photo, tucked into Moon's passport for safekeeping, marked the first anniversary of the day the couple met — at EDC, exactly a year earlier. "It was a special photo from a really special moment," Moon said. State of play: Moon, 29, lives in Seattle and is taking over her family's bubble tea business; Do, 28, is an aerospace mechanic in San Jose, Moon said.

Memorial Day boosts road traffic in Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — AAA projected record numbers of travelers to the sports and entertainment capital of the world for Memorial Day 2025. The organization anticipated that 1.2 million additional Americans would travel via automobile compared to last year. 'We went out last night, partied this morning, and now we're going home,' said Stella Trajo, a Los Angeles resident who was filling up at a Nevada-California border gas station. 'I haven't seen this many people in Las Vegas, except for last weekend with EDC- but even then!' Taia Stewart, a Las Vegas resident who just graduated from the University of Nevada, planned to celebrate with a road trip to Disneyland. 'There was a lot of traffic since it was Memorial Day,' said Stewart, who did not realize it was a holiday until she hit the travel rush. Deandre Payton, a Floridian who visited Las Vegas on vacation, headed to Los Angeles for a brief excursion. Payton said his road trip experience was better than his experience at Harry Reid International Airport at the beginning of the holiday weekend. 'The airport was crazy,' Payton said. 'It's been pretty chaotic.' He noted his shock over Nevada gas prices, which are higher than those he is used to. California residents, however, chose to fill up in the Silver State as the prices are lower than those in the neighboring Golden State. 'We're filling up the whole tank right now before we go back out there,' said Naomi Portillo, who said gas in their home state typically ranges from $5 to $6. According to AAA, gas prices in Nevada dropped slightly ahead of Memorial Day weekend. The average was $3.93 on Monday, down three cents from last week. In 2024, the state average on Memorial Day was $4.35. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

This expansion underscores EDC's commitment to supporting Canadian businesses in navigating and capitalizing on the dynamic and rapidly evolving Thai market. Thailand is a key driver of economic growth in Southeast Asia, and as one of the region's largest economies, boasted a gross domestic product (GDP) of over $500 billion in 2024. The country's strategic location at the heart of Southeast Asia, coupled with developed infrastructure and a business-friendly environment, makes Thailand an important hub for Canadian trade and investment in the Indo-Pacific region. Canadian exporters have already had success in the market, growing trade to Thailand by $1 billion, or 17%, between 2019 and 2024. "EDC has long focused on trade diversification to help Canadian companies seize opportunities beyond our traditional markets," said Alison Nankivell, President and CEO, EDC. "The new representation in Bangkok is part of EDC's broader Indo-Pacific strategy, aimed at investing in resources and relationships that align with both Canadian strengths and Thailand's economic and sustainability priorities. In 2024, EDC supported over 200 customers in Thailand, helping generate more than $350 million in business, and with potential for much more. Southeast Asia is a region with strong potential and has emerged as a priority market for Canadian companies. EDC's financing, insurance and knowledge solutions are designed to help companies manage trade-related risks, expand internationally and reach new markets. Our in-market staff in both Canada and in the Indo-Pacific region collaborate closely with Government of Canada trade partners, working alongside the Trade Commissioner Service and Global Affairs Canada to help Canadian exporters navigate the challenges of entering new markets and capitalize on growth opportunities in key sectors. "Thailand's strategic location and robust economic growth make it a valuable trade and investment partner for Canada in the Indo-Pacific region," said Sara Wilshaw, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister International Trade, and Chief Trade Commissioner Global Affairs Canada. "EDC's new presence in Bangkok aligns with the Government of Canada's broader strategy to strengthen bilateral trade relations and support Canadian companies as they explore new opportunities in this vibrant market." Canada and Thailand share a robust trade relationship, with bilateral trade upwards of $6 billion in 2024. Thailand's participation in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Free Trade Area and Canada's involvement in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) strengthen trade positions in the region. With Thailand's commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and net-zero emissions by 2065, there are significant opportunities for Canadian companies specializing in renewable energy, energy efficiency solutions and sustainable technologies.
