'Forever Your Little White One': Diogo Jota's Widow Rute Cardoso Shares Touching Note To Commemorate Wedding
Last Updated: Cardoso shared a post commemorating the completion of one month of the couple's wedding before the Portuguese star was snatched away by the cruel hands of fate. Rute Cardoso, the widow of late Liverpool footballer Diogo Jota took to social media to share a post commemorating the completion of one month of the couple's wedding before the Portuguese star was snatched away by the cruel hands of fate in a car crash in Spain. Jota met his untimely end on July 3, 2025, after a tragic car accident in Zamora, Spain, at just 28 years of age, alongside his brother Andre Silva. 1 mês do nosso 'nem a morte nos separa"Para sempre,A tua branquinha 🤍 — Rute Cardoso (@Rutecfcardoso14) July 22, 2025 '1 month of our 'not even death will part us," Cardosa's post read. 'Forever, Your little white on," she added. Jota married his partner, Cardoso, on June 22, just weeks before his passing. The couple had three children together. Jota began his youth career at Gondomar in 2005 before moving to Paços de Ferreira, where he made his senior debut in 2014. In 2016, he transferred to Atletico Madrid but was immediately loaned to Porto for a season and then to Wolves in 2017. His impressive performances for Wolves led to a permanent move to Molineux. Jota's remarkable achievements at Wolves, including helping the team win the EFL Championship title, earned him a transfer to Premier League giants Liverpool in 2020. With Liverpool, Jota won the Premier League, the FA Cup in the 2021-22 season, and the EFL League Cup. He was also part of the Portuguese team that won the UEFA Nations League in both the 2018/19 and 2024/25 seasons. Premier League champions Liverpool announced that they would retire the jersey No. 20 in honour of the late Portuguese forward. Born Diogo Jose Teixeira da Silva, he adopted the surname 'Jota' to distinguish himself from teammates with similar names in the youth academy. An avid gamer, Jota formed his own eSports team, Diogo Jota eSports, later renamed Luna Galaxy, and topped the FIFA 21 Championship table in February of that year. A versatile player capable of playing various roles along the front line, Jota clinched the Premier League title with Liverpool a month ago and followed it up with his second UEFA Nations League title. view comments First Published: July 23, 2025, 11:07 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Rangers vs Panathinaikos player ratings: 8/10 rescue act, the visionary, dream debut and drowsy display
Rangers will go into next week's Champions League second leg qualifier with the advantage after a pair thunderous strikes helped them secure a 2-0 win over 10-man Panathinaikos at Ibrox. Despite home goalkeeper Jack Butland being forced into numerous saves in the opening throws of the game, it was 18-year-old Curtis that swung the game in Rangers favour, smashing smashed home from long range in the 52nd minute to secure a narrow win on Russell Martin's first competitive game in charge of the Glasgow giants. Panathinaikos were dealt an even bigger blow just six minutes after Curtis' strike when midfielder Georgios Vagiannidis was sent off for his second booking of the game, and the Light Blues took full advantage when debutant Djeidi Gassama lashed home with his first touch of the ball. Rangers will now take a short break from competitive action as they return to Ibrox this weekend to face EFL Championship promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough as part of their pre-season schedule, before they head to Athens for next week's second leg against Rui Vitória's side on Wednesday 30 July. Here's how The Scotsman rated the performance of each Rangers player in the 2-0 against Panathinaikos at Ibrox: 1 . Jack Butland - 8 Saved his teammates blushes several times, making a huge save just before the ten minute mark to claw the ball out of the corner of the net following Duricic's smart header. He then pulled off a smart reaction save when Raskin's dallied in his own penalty area before repeating the trick early in the second-half. A drowsy looking performance at times from the usually consistent captain, but improved as the game wore on and fired in some dangerous crosses. | SNS Group Photo: SNS Group Photo Sales 3 . John Souttar - 6 Made a good block on the edge of his area, but was slightly slack in his passing at times. But won the bulk of his aerial duels, and tried to prompt attacks from the back. | PA Photo: PA Photo Sales 4 . Nasser Djiga - 6 Gave the ball away in a dangerous position and almost cost the team a cheap goal. Strong otherwise, and assured, even against tough opposition. Played his part in the clean sheet. | PA Photo: PA. Photo Sales

Stellenbosch's Tylon Smith (20) to join Queens Park Rangers in England
Rising South African star Tylon Smith has completed a lucrative transfer from Stellenbosch FC to EFL Championship side Queens Park Rangers, in what could be described as a life-changing move for the young defender. The Citizen reports that although QPR have yet to formally announce his signing, 20-year-old Smith has already been in England for the past two weeks and is settling into his new environment as he prepares for the upcoming season. According to leading betting site William Hill, the average Championship salary continues to rise, with some clubs paying players over £30 000 (R713 017) per week on average. Leicester City topped the list in the 2023/24 season, with an average weekly wage of £44 000 (R1.05m). At the other end of the scale, lower-budget teams in the league are paying less than £5 000 (R118 836) per week in wages. Smith caught international attention after being named Player of the Tournament at the CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt earlier this year. He played a crucial role in Amajita's historic maiden continental triumph, including a standout performance in the 1–0 victory over Morocco in the final at Cairo International Stadium. He also netted the decisive goal in the semi-final against Nigeria, further underlining his potential and attracting interest from clubs across Europe. On the domestic front, Smith has been nominated for the DStv Diski Challenge Player of the Season award, capping off a stellar year for one of South Africa's brightest young talents.
