As Rib Fest wraps up, one organizer reflects on rainy day difficulties
The Erie Wild Rib Cook-Off & Music Festival is done and over, but was it as successful as years past? Performance and event manager Kathi Danielson said this was one of the toughest to date, and she has been doing this for 21 years. This year, there were more vendors than in previous years, but the weather did put a damper on some of the fun. EMTA reminds riders of upcoming route changes 'It was quite an impact to the event, but I have to tell you that the vendors that come to this event are very well seasoned and they understand that I have no control over the weather and they will be back next year and they are so looking forward to it,' said Danielson. EMTA reminds riders of upcoming route changes
(WJET/WFXP) — There may be some changes coming to your bus route. Beginning June 7, the Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority (EMTA) will modify some of its routes. The Presque Isle Express (Route 33) will start up for the summer in downtown Erie and drive through Presque Isle State Park. Rides on this route are free and will run on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Tickets now available Erie Zoo's centennial Mane Event Since the colleges' spring semesters are over, Route 18 (Penn State Behrend), Route 19 (Gannon University) and the PennWest Edinboro Express will stop running. Three teens charged with assaulting street violin player at Erie bus stop
The Erie Bureau of Police has charged three teenagers with assault for punching and kicking a 23-year-old man at a bus stop at the corner of Peach and West Ninth streets. Deputy Chief Rick Lorah said the incident, which occurred May 20 at around 3 p.m., began as an argument between the parties aboard an EMTA bus and then turned physical at the bus stop. Lorah said he couldn't confirm what triggered the argument. '(The victim) was on the ground and sustained injuries consistent with getting punched and kicked while down, consistent with being assaulted by multiple actors,' Lorah said. The victim, who Lorah said frequently played the violin in the area as a busker, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at a local hospital. Lorah said five teenagers were at the scene but two didn't participate in the assault. Part of Pittsburgh Ave. to close again for repairs
(WJET/WFXP)– Nine blocks of Pittsburgh Avenue will be temporarily closed again this week as crews make some needed repairs to the area. Drivers should plan accordingly for Pittsburgh Avenue to be closed from West 23rd to West 32nd Street on Thursday, May 20, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. EMTA, EDP announce plans for 14th Fest 2025 Crews from Erie Water Works will be in the area again to make some restorations to the street after recent water main breaks. Harborcreek students sign their commitments to US military
Several local high school students are committing to protecting our country following graduation. Monday morning, Harbor Creek High School held its annual military signing day. EMTA, EDP announce plans for 14th Fest 2025 Senior Ryleigh Kinter will be joining the US Air Force; she said she is looking forward to serving her country. Owen Lewis will be going into the Marines; he said he wanted to be able to do something meaningful in his life. 'Making it through four years of high school, that just saying a lot and having your friends as a support system and signing those papers right beside them, that means a lot,' Kitner told us. Green-thumbed gardeners, plant enthusiasts gather at Community Seedling Swap and Sale 'I have an uncle who is active duty army, and an uncle who just retired from the air force and they all said to go to the air force, but thankfully my father backed me when I decided to go with the Marines,' Lewis said. Ryleigh said her next step is heading to Lackland Air Force Base in Texas for basic training for tech school. Owen will be going to boot camp on Parris Island in July.
