Restaurant Worker Wrestled to Ground by ICE Agents in the Middle of Shift

Federal agents arrested a restaurant worker in Nebraska during business hours in front of customers and staff, footage shows. Romero Edilzar Yaxcal-Tiul was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents on June 1 at Early Bird, a restaurant in West Omaha. "Allegations that Romero Edilzar Yaxcal-Tiul was 'wrongfully taken by ICE' are FALSE," Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told Newsweek in an email. DHS said that ICE agents apprehended Yaxcal-Tiul, an undocumented immigrant from Guatemala, who was employed using a false name and Social Security number. He had also previously been involved in a 2022 immigration case related to fraudulent documents, according to DHS. Romero Edilzar Yaxcal-Tiul was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents on June 1 at Early Bird, a restaurant in West Omaha. Romero Edilzar Yaxcal-Tiul was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents on June 1 at Early Bird, a restaurant in West Omaha. Why It Matters President Donald Trump's immigration enforcers have been under increased scrutiny amid reports of aggressive tactics. Critics argue that such actions erode public trust and sow fear in immigrant communities. Supporters argue that tough measures are necessary to uphold the nation's immigration laws. What To Know Footage on social media shows Yaxcal-Tiul being taken to the ground, handcuffed, and escorted out of the restaurant. The incident, which occurred in full view of customers and staff, was later confirmed by Early Bird in a public statement. An Omaha law firm is representing the detained employee but has declined to comment further on the situation. ICE officials, both locally and in Washington, D.C., are currently reviewing the case, and no additional details have been released. According to a post by Jenna Kurtenbach on GoFundMe, Yaxcal-Tiul was wrongfully detained, with ICE agents failing to confirm his identity or provide documentation at the time of his arrest. The post also states that a worker with ICE later said that Yaxcal-Tiul was not the intended target of the enforcement action. DHS has denied the allegation. Newsweek has reached out to Jenna Kurtenbach via GoFundMe for comment. What People Are Saying DHS told Newsweek: "President Trump and Secretary Noem's message to illegal aliens is clear: LEAVE NOW. Illegal aliens can take control of their departure with the CBP Home App. The United States is offering illegal aliens $1,000 and a free flight to self-deport now. We encourage every person here illegally to take advantage of this offer and reserve the chance to come back to the U.S. the right legal way to live [the] American dream. If not, you will be arrested and deported without a chance to return." Early Bird said in a statement on Facebook: "We are aware that an employee was taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at our restaurant on Sunday. The incident occurred during business hours. The incident began in the parking lot as law enforcement attempted to detain the individual and ended in our covered patio area. "We had no involvement or knowledge of this incident prior to living it alongside our guests and staff. "We understand that this event may have caused concern or discomfort for our guests and staff who were present. The safety and well-being of everyone in our establishment is our top priority." What Happens Next A fundraising campaign has been launched to help cover legal expenses related to Yaxcal-Tiul's case. According to Kurtenbach's GoFundMe post, despite Yaxcal-Tiul "having no criminal history, he is still being detained."

Swindon announce rise in early season ticket sales this season

Swindon Town have nearly equalled their season ticket sales for last season already as the Early Bird deadline has passed. The window for supporters to buy their season tickets at a reduced rate has finished at Swindon, after the club saw a small rise in prices of around seven per cent for supporters compared to the previous campaign. Advertisement Swindon announced that they sold 3,800 season tickets from when they went on sale in March up until May 31. Read more: Supporters using say on stadium redevelopment 'crucial' - TrustSTFC VOTE: Decide on the goalkeeper for The Adver's Greatest Swindon XI Wright expects new role to make Swindon tough to stop This constitutes an improvement on last year, when Town had to extend their Early Bird window into June after a slow start to the summer following their worst-ever season in the four-tier EFL, and in total sold less than 4,000 for last season, having sold around 4,500 in 2023/24. Advertisement Compared to the 2022/23 season, sales are down from the 4,200 season tickets sold by early June, but it shows progress from last season. Prices for season tickets now increase to £450 for adults in a side stand and £425 in the Town End; £335 for over-65s in the side stands and £325 in the Town End; £195 for under-21s in the side stands and £185 in the Town End; £155 for under-18s in the side stands and £145 in the Town End; £45 for under-11s in the side stands or Town End; and £510 for a family season ticket. This uptick on last year's sales should be a major boost for Swindon as getting supporters to buy season tickets early is big for funding the club during the summer when matches are not being played – especially as Swindon are not expected to have a home friendly match this season due to the new pitch being installed. Speaking to The Adver last summer, former chairman Andrew Fitton explained the value of season ticket sales: 'It is huge because it is money upfront, it is as simple as that. Advertisement 'You give away quite a discount to get that money upfront, but you live off that money for the rest of the season. 'We got it wrong when I first became chairman because we took over in the November and the season ticket money had been effectively spent, and we had to fund the rest of the season ourselves from there. 'What you try and do is eek that money out for a large part of the season, knowing that you have got a little bit of money coming in through the gates every week. It is really important.'

Rockets offseason dates: June deadlines and decision timelines

Rockets offseason dates: June deadlines and decision timelines With the calendar turning to June and the NBA Finals matchup set, here's an early look at this month's offseason deadlines for the Rockets. The 2025 NBA Finals matchup is set, with the Oklahoma City Thunder representing the Western Conference and the Indiana Pacers representing the East. The calendar has turned to June. For the 28 other NBA teams, that means the 2025 offseason is almost here. For the Houston Rockets and other teams across the league, here's a look at key dates and deadlines over the coming weeks: June 14-22 (first day after NBA Finals): Teams can negotiate with their own free agents (first day after NBA Finals): Teams can negotiate with their own free agents June 25 : First round of NBA draft : First round of NBA draft June 26 : Second round of NBA draft : Second round of NBA draft June 29 : Deadline for player/team options and qualifying offers for restricted free agents : Deadline for player/team options and qualifying offers for restricted free agents June 30 (5 p.m. Central): Teams can begin negotiating and reaching verbal agreements with free agents from other clubs Trades can occur at any time, although to use 2025-26 salary figures, teams will need to wait until July (the start of the next fiscal year) to process those with the league office. For salary matching purposes, deals finalized in June will be based on 2024-25 salaries. For those June 30 free agency negotiations, the Rockets are likely to operate above the NBA's 2025-26 salary cap. That means their maximum financial tool available (excluding trades) to sign external free agents will be either the non-taxpayer mid-level exception (MLE), estimated at a starting salary of $14.1 million, or the taxpayer MLE, which is estimated at $5.7 million. The decision on which one the Rockets will use will depend on total 2025-26 payroll projections, which will depend on the surrounding roster composition at the time. For the Rockets (salaries), players with June deadlines or decisions to be made include: Fred VanVleet, 2025-26 team option ($44.9 million) Steven Adams, unrestricted free agent, Full Bird rights ($12.6 million salary in 2024-25) Jae'Sean Tate, unrestricted free agent, Full Bird rights ($7.6 million salary in 2024-25) Jeff Green, unrestricted free agent, Early Bird rights ($8.0 million salary in 2024-25) Jock Landale, 2025-26 non-guaranteed salary ($8.0 million) Aaron Holiday, 2025-26 team option ($4.9 million) N'Faly Dante, 2025-26 qualifying offer (two-way) Jack McVeigh, 2025-26 qualifying offer (two-way) On July 1, players who just finished their third NBA seasons on rookie-scale contracts will become extension eligible. That extension window runs until just prior to the start of the next regular season in October. In Houston, this will apply to Jabari Smith Jr. and Tari Eason.
