Edin Lynch has signed a new contract with Edinburgh City and the Glasgow-born defender has a new role. The 24-year-old player will take over captaincy of the club from 36-year-old, Edinburgh-born midfielder, Jon Robertson. Last season was Lynch's first with the Meadowbank-based outfit after being part of Stenhousemuir's title winning side in season 2023/24. City have also said that goalkeeper Mark Weir has signed a new contract with the club who finished third Scottish League Two last term, collecting 56 points from their 36 games, nine behind second-placed East Fife and ten adrift of champions, Peterhead. They failed to earn promotion to Scottish League One through the play-offs, winning 1-0 at home to East Fife in the semi-final, first-leg in the Capital but losing 3-0 at Methil in the second-leg. Season tickets are now available and the club have confirmed their Premier Sports Cup fixtures. They open on Saturday, July 12 (3pm) against Partick Thistle in Edinburgh, then they travel to Queen of the South on Tuesday, July 15 (7.45pm). Their next outing is at home to Stranraer on Saturday, July 19 (3pm) and they then play Ross County, recently relegated from the William Hill Premiership, in Dingwall on Tuesday, July 22 (7.45pm). Airdrie announce exit of 'consistently reliable' defender

Craig Watson has parted ways with the Diamonds after a four-year spell Airdrie have announced Craig Watson has left the club after four years with the Monklands men. The Diamonds defender helped the club to Championship survival this past season and was also part of the League One promotion-winning squad in 2023. ‌ A former Hamilton Accies and East Fife player, the 30-year-old is now on the lookout for a new club. ‌ A club statement read: "After four years and over 150 appearances for the Diamonds, Craig Watson is moving on with our thanks and best wishes. "Defender Craig joined from East Fife in May of 2021, having caught the eye of then boss Ian Murray with a number of solid displays against his side. "Featuring regularly over four seasons in central defence and the right full-back role, the athletic former Hamilton man impressed the Airdrie faithful with his no-nonsense defending and ability on the ball. "'Janny' also showed an eye for goal, finding the net 11 times over his 153 appearances – with a couple of Goal of the Season contenders in the shape of outstanding strikes against Montrose and Alloa Athletic. "As a model professional, a positive influence in the dressing room, and a consistently reliable squad member during a successful period for the club, we wish Craig the very best of luck with whatever comes next in his football career. He will always be welcomed with open arms at the club he served with such distinction. All the best, Janny!"

Brora Rangers boss Steven Mackay reacts to Premier Sports Cup draw

Brora Rangers boss Steven Mackay says their Premier Sports Cup draw brings back some great memories. The Breedon Highland League champions have been drawn in Group H alongside Premiership outfits Kilmarnock and Livingston and League One sides Kelty Hearts and East Fife. Brora have played all of those clubs before. In season 2017-18 they defeated East Fife 1-0 in the Scottish Cup at New Bayview to set up a last-16 tie against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park, which they lost 4-0. In 2021 the Cattachs took on Kelty in the pyramid play-offs (losing 6-1 on aggregate) and last November they impressed in a 2-0 Scottish Cup third round defeat to Livingston. The League Cup fixture schedule has still to be finalised but matches will be played between July 12 and 27. Reacting to the draw, manager Mackay said: 'This draw brings back a lot of memories, some good and some not so good. 'The Scottish Cup run we had where we beat East Fife and then played Kilmarnock in the last 16 was a great experience. 'We played Kelty in the pyramid play-off, which wasn't such a good experience and then last year we played Livingston and put on a really good show I thought. 'It can be nice to face teams you haven't faced before, but equally it's also good to play teams we've got a bit of history with and we've got history will all these clubs. 'We're looking forward to it and looking forward to challenging ourselves against some top opposition. 'Kilmarnock and Livingston are both Premiership clubs and either of them coming to Dudgeon Park would be a great occasion for the club and the area. 'All these games are an opportunity for us to showcase what we can do. 'It's something for the players to look forward to and it will be good preparation for us for the start of the Highland League season.' The other Highland League side in the League Cup, Brechin City, have been drawn in Group A alongside Falkirk (Premiership), Queen's Park (Championship), Cove Rangers (League One) and Spartans (League Two).
