The incident occurred around 1:40 p.m. on Dec. 24, 2024, outside the Family Dollar located at 2433 Delowe Drive. Officers arrived to find Melton suffering from a gunshot wound. He was located outside the store, but the suspect had already fled the scene. Investigators say Hodges, who is 6 feet 7 inches tall, allegedly shot Melton in front of the store before fleeing. On Sunday night around 9:30 p.m., police responded to 3031 Washington Road in reference to a multiple gunshots call. Investigators say someone approached the victim in the parking lot, an altercation occurred and the victim was shot multiple times at close range. The East Point Police Department say they have arrested the man who has been committing lewd acts and burglaries in the Heritage Park community. On Friday evening, the department say they were 'pleased to announce the arrest of Jacquez Antonio Walker, who was sought in connection with multiple serious charges including sexual assault, burglary, aggravated assault, kidnapping, home invasion, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.' Last week, police released a sketch of the person they were looking for at the time who had a history of committing acts during midnight and 5 a.m. while neighbors are sleeping. 'In 2019, we actually secured warrants for him and arrested him for burglary in the same Heritage Park subdivision,' said Sgt. JL Watkins with East Point Police.
